Look on the bright side, he's going to be a near lock to get in the Hall of Fame in 2012. Damn shame he won't be around to see it. He's better than half the hall anyways.

I actually hope he doesn't make it in 2012. No disrespect meant to Ron, but I don't want people to always say the only reason he got in was because he died. I also don't want people to start a trend where a long time HOF candidate is put in a category where a voter thinks he's the type of borderline candidate that he won't vote on until they are dead.

R.I.P. Mr. Santo... you will be missed. So many great memories of his broadcasts with Pat... I will always remember Ron most for a game that I went to at Bank One for one of the last Spring Training games in 2003... my son was in a stroller at the time so we took the elevator down from the upper deck... we rode it down with a gentleman that had just had his leg amputated and was in a wheelchair... he had just met Ron Santo and the man was noticeably inpired and uplifted after his meeting with Ron. Ron was so much more than a Hall of Fame player/ broadcaster and UBER Cubs Fan... he was an ambassador to the game the likes of which are seldom seen. It is a disgrace he has not been voted into the H.O.F.

The funny thing is, when I learn of big things happening, I rarely can remember exactly the thought process I have as my mind comprehends the news. For this, I clearly remember my first thought when I read a friends text message in bed this morning. "He didn't make it" (referring to a WS title). I think we all hoped that Ron could see a WS champion, but especially in the last couple of years most of us thought he never would. Now it's official.

I just posted one of my favorite Ron Santo moments on youtube:

Rest in Peace Ronnie ... you'll be missed!

Anyone got Ron's call of the Cubs/As game from a few years ago that ended on a Barrett walk-off double? I always loved that one.

Jon has (had?) it on his website.

I don't, but I have some classics from 2005, and the intro song from 2004. Not sure where I can upload them...If someone would PM me an email address, I could send them so they could be hosted.

I remember doing a HS project that had a bunch of clips from the 2003 season, and Ronnie's reaction to game winning hits was always my favorite.

Does anyone have the call from Ramirez's walk-off against the Brewers in 2008? I drove up to Chicago that day and had a great time hearing the sports radio guys play his reaction over and over again.

I'm sort of the exact opposite of a lot of the people here. I grew up on WGN and never really listened to many WGN radio broadcasts. I grew up on Steve Stone talk about sliders low and outside alongside Harry.

I grew up on Harry Carry, when listening to the game and hoping you heard an enthusiastic call was all that mattered. Though, come to think of it, some of Harry's most enthusiastic calls were for the other team...

Anyway, needless to say, the first Santo game I heard, I was hooked. He spoke the truth, his passion, and his heart (out of 1,300 randomly played songs "A dying Cubs fan's last request" just happened to play at this very second...)were one in a million.

RIP Ron. I must admit, the first thing I thought about when I heard he passed away was the fact he never saw the Cubs win it all. That sucks.

It's even better than I remembered. Thanks.

OK, here we go.

I should warn you these do take place in 2005. Some of these names may make you shudder.

I honestly had successfully blocked Jose Macias out of my head until I listened to those.

How could you forget The Gremlin? And at least they don't mention Freddie Bynum.

Bynum was an 06 refugee. I wish I didn't remember that.

There is nothing that can be said to respect Ron's love of the game or the Cubs.

I can't wait to play with him in heaven above.
