  1. How many guys did the Cubs trot out from Santo to Ramirez? The Cubs have had a legitimate 3rd baseman that has been one of the most consistent Cubs in his tenure and we are here discussing what a dime a dozen outfielder that was a Cub for a cup of coffee has to say?
  2. Today is the antithesis of the trade deadline 2004... getting Nomar was one of the happiest days of my Cubs Fan life. Today just reminds me of the torment that it is to be a Cubs fan. Bottoms up fellas (and ladies)...
  3. that's my question too... I saw that there was a new page on this thread since I was on yesterday and I thought something was cooking... only to see a discussion about Marlon Byrd... don't do this to me guys... I am pathetically waiting for them to make a move on Webb one way or the other...
  4. R.I.P. Mr. Santo... you will be missed. So many great memories of his broadcasts with Pat... I will always remember Ron most for a game that I went to at Bank One for one of the last Spring Training games in 2003... my son was in a stroller at the time so we took the elevator down from the upper deck... we rode it down with a gentleman that had just had his leg amputated and was in a wheelchair... he had just met Ron Santo and the man was noticeably inpired and uplifted after his meeting with Ron. Ron was so much more than a Hall of Fame player/ broadcaster and UBER Cubs Fan... he was an ambassador to the game the likes of which are seldom seen. It is a disgrace he has not been voted into the H.O.F.
  5. so long as the contract is not ridiculous count me in on getting Webb... if healthy he would be a top of rotation pitcher and the sinker fits in nicely at Wrigley.
  6. After having been traded 3 times in the last couple of years you know Lee is going to want a NTC... and is there any team in baseball that is better at handing those out? :D
  7. I don't mind the Go Cubs Go... I am more annoyed with the idiot guests that do the 7th inning... I feel bad for Len and Bob for some of those interviews... "So Marion Ross what have you been up to since Happy Days?"... awkward... BTW, I agree with whoever said bring back Jump for the pregame...
  8. I am open to trading Theriot, but I have a couple of questions. First, if the Cubs were to trade Theriot when his trade value is presumably at it's highest... what could the Cubs realistically look to get in return? Secondly, what is to the Cubs advantage improved defense with Blanco (assumed replacement for at least the beginning of the season) or the current offense of Theriot? If they could get something of value in return for him and the drop off in offense is even closely outweighed by the improved defense then a trade would be fine with me... anything to get this team to the World Series for crying out loud... it is starting to get a little ridiculous... :D just my $.02
  9. I like the idea of Orlando Hudson. A)He is a free agent so it will not cost us any talent. B)He is a switch hitter so he can bat lefty, which should make Lou and Jimbo happy. I am not sure how "scrappy" he is though... can anyone help me on that? :D) Any guesses what he would want in terms of a contract?
  10. Does Angel Guzman have any real trade value and if so could he be included in a Peavy deal?
  11. I step away for one sec and the retro powders get posted... I like the jersey for fans just don't want to see D-Lee wearing that in a game any time soon...
  12. I just don't want to see the early 80's road powder blues with the pinstripes. Brutal... cool to wear to the game as a fan... just bad for actual gameplay... On a side note I think it would be awesome for the Cubs to do a game at the end of the season and wear whatever they wore in 1908. Just to send a message.
  13. 1)I say keep current home uni's as is. 2)every Sunday for home games wear a throwback home jersey from yesteryear (I liked the ones from the Braves game). 3)Put the primary logo back on the alternates and ditch the walking bear sort of like the road '84 jersies. 4) Do something new with the main road uni's. Just not the Cuba jersey. Just my $.02.
  14. dextermorgan has your contact predicted any other trades? Just wondering??
  15. The Cubs are in a "win now" mode since they are celebrating 100 years since their last World Series Championship... I don't know if Brian Roberts gets us the fans a trophy this year, but I am tired of the Cubs playing it safe so if there is even a possibility that he helps get us the trophy then I am for it. The strategy of hoarding young talent that does not pay off is frustrating... I am self employed and sometimes you have to take chances and be willing to take risks to win. I for one am tired of the Cubs playing small... go for it and let the chips fall where they may. Just get on with a decision one way or another already... just my $.02
  16. On paper I agree... but if he tightens up with guys in front of him then it does. It is a mental block or something. Like when Ankiel was not able to pitch to home plate.
  17. Soriano's offensive numbers suffer the more he hits with guys on. Why not keep him leadoff and then bat Roberts 2nd (which is moot since the Cubs won't get him)? Then Roberts is still hitting ahead of Lee and Aramis. Too many righties in a row
  18. has Roberts ever hit 2nd? I couldn't agree more about Theriot batting 8th... and even 9th when Z is pitching. Just to throw this out there... if Fukudome is the hitter that we all hope he is would anyone mind seeing Lee hit 2nd and Fukudome hit 3rd? If the objective is in fact to get your best hitters the most at bats? Just wondering.
  19. I hear ya. Let's hope that we are in the mix for a SS solution either before Opening Day or by the deadline. That is the position I would most like to see upgraded (like most).
  20. I had to chuckle at Mr. Miles' article in the Herald that Hendry is frustrated with the lack of deals this offseason... no, there were some deals... you might recall a guy named Santana was moved... a guy named Renteria was moved... a virtual no name (sarcasm) Miggy Cabrera... Dan Haren... yeah, I guess it was a slow offseason. Maybe when you spend all of your time focused on one player and it does not come to fruition then it can seem that it was a slow offseason for trades. I don't dislike Hendry as much as some, but he sure seems to fall in love with certain guys. How long did he try to get Barrett for example? http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=134286&src=152
  21. It seems that there is a growing sentiment among many of us that we really do not want Gallagher in the trade (if there ever even is a trade). Anybody know where in the order he might pitch IF he sticks? I would think that if his fastball is in the mid-90's that he is a middle of the order type of pitcher. Could he go after Lilly and before Hill? If he is a 3 or 4 then I really want to keep him. A-Zambrano B-Lilly C-Gallagher D-Hill E-Marquis/Lieber/Marshall/Hart This would break up the 2 lefties...
  22. I think the Cubs can help the Orioles get a veteran to mentor their young pitchers so the O's don't have to sign Trachsel... they could trade for Jason Marquis. Seems like a win/win to me. :D
  23. Thank you. I am not a statistics guru, but am a passionate Cubs fan. I live in the Phoenix area so this forum really helps keep me in touch with the Beloved.
  24. I agree... I don't mind the idea of Roberts. I just would not be happy to see the Cubs overpay for him. If a Murton/Marshall/ low level prospect with higher ceiling can get the deal done cool... if not then we should save the chips to deal for positions that we need like leadoff hitter (just kidding... I am new to the forum but have observed from afar for a couple years now so I now leadoff hitter is not a position :D ).
