Yay, Bears move from 12th to 7th in ESPN's power rankings

1. Falcons

2. Patriots

3. Jets

4. Ravens

5. Steelers

6. Saints

7. Bears

8. Packers

9. Eagles

10. Giants

Unfortunately the Bears are still the lowest 8-3 team, but I am not going to gripe about the Ravens, Steelers, or Saints being rated higher than the Bears.

Same on CBSSportsline. For the sake of griping, I will gripe about the Steelers being ahead of the Bears. The common games between them and the Bears are Miami and Buffalo. Steelers beat Miami by 1 thanks to a ruling worse than the Bears win over Detroit. Took them til OT to beat the Bills. Bears beat the Dolphins 16-0 and the Bills by a TD. Also, I'd be willing to bet that the Bears don't get wiped out at home vs. NE as the Steelers did.

Steelers only wins vs. teams above .500?

Miami- see above

Tampa- who is only over .500 because of their weak schedule.

Fewer quality wins + less impressive common game wins = Bears should be ahead.

Probably won't change much though...Steelers have a really light schedule left...Jets are really the only team worth a damn left for them.

Actually, now that I look at their schedule....

New Orleans only has wins over Tampa and Pittsburgh. They were beaten by double digits at home vs. Cleveland and at Arizona. Carolina, Dallas, and SF also took them to the wire.

After all that I would still bet on Pittsburgh if they faced off in a neutral site.

Yeah, me too. Not a good matchup, but not really many teams have a better resume than the Bears at this point.

Shaun Hill didn't practice and Drew Stanton took #1 reps.

People are going to start claiming conspiracy if the Bears face another team with a major injury right before facing them.

Didn't the Steelers make Atlanta look bad in week 2?

Oh crap. Week 1. I forgot about that. That is a good win especially with Dixon as QB.

In a given year almost every team is going to look awful some weeks, awesome in other weeks, blow out teams they are just as good as, play close games or lose against vastly inferior teams, etc.

The thing that I think is funny is that everyone was bitching about the Bears beating no one and you guys are picking out "elite' teams that have beaten just as few teams as the Bears did but they all get the benefit of the doubt for various reasons. Then again, very few good teams looked as bad as the Bears did in a single game as we did against the Giants on National TV. It's understandable that it took another marquee win for them to start to look past that game.

i worry about the bears losing focus for the rest of the year. the eagle win is a high-water mark thus far. this is a team that needs total concentration and max protect to win.

If they do lose focus, it won't be because Lovie did. Don't forget this man is still coaching for his job. If they collapse and finish 8-8 or 9-7 to finish the year, he's not gonna be returning.

I was reading in the trip today, 54 of the 59 teams to start 8-3 have made the playoffs since the playoffs expanded to its current format. I remember the Jets did this a few years back with Favre, but I can't think of any other examples.

I don't know how many times a 9-3 team has missed the playoffs...anyone know?

Edit: Just remembered the Bucs started 9-3 the same year as the Jets collapse and missed the playoffs. In 1993, Miami was 9-2 and didn't end up making the playoffs. That's insane but it part of it was because Dan Marino was injured for the season.

I figured before the season 8-8 would save his job, and I'm not sure that it won't now. Losing 5 straight to end the season may be enough, but given the CBA situation 1 more win may be plenty for him to stay.

It's difficult to say how everyone would feel if we drop the last 5 games in a row. Probably not very good.

But the labor uncertainty + the existing money owed very likely = another year of Lovie is locked in at this point.

Certainly a win vs. the Lions makes it an absolute. That's a winning record, a solid W/L improvement to point to in the face of all the other aforementioned factors.

A playoff appearance and heck, I'll support another year of Lovie, even. Why not? I'd actually kind of like to see what happens in year 2 of Martz/Cutler, barring a complete collapse.

from the sounds of 670 and ESPN it sounds like Shaun Hill is looking less and less likely to play the game

whether he soldiers through or Drew Stanton plays, write me off on being skeptical about the Bears prevailing in this game

I dont buy it. This team is suddenly reminding me of the 2007-8 Giants, maybe somewhat the 2005-6 Steelers.

tall orders, I know. but think about where they started (and how messed up those teams were early) and this Bears team. Interesting at least.

luck is one thing, taking advantage of luck is something else.

Tall orders, indeed. I don't think this team has enough consistency from anyone on the offense (especially the O-Line) to make a Super Bowl run. And unfortunately I think our team might be peaking at the wrong time. I have a great fear that the Eagles game was the pinnacle of the 2010 Bears, but I'd love to be wrong.
