And that MNF game comes off 10 days of rest following their Thursday game last week.

I agree that Urlacher is no longer elite, but I'm failing to see how Briggs isn't an elite LB. In fact, I dare someone to name five LBs in the NFL who are currently head and shoulders better than him. James Harrison, DeMarcus Ware, Ray Lewis, Clay Matthews? Who else is there?

currently?, Timmons, Willis, Hali, Wake and several other arguables

If you are going to have a really good team come to Chicago, it's ideal to have them come to town on a shorter than normal week and a huge emotional game against a division or conference rival. Philly came off playing the Giants Sunday night.

I would only put Harrison, Ware, Timmons, and Willis on the same level as Briggs in terms of all around linebackers. Urlacher and Lewis are a step behind those guys. Everyone else are great pass rushers, but are not as good all around linebackers as the others IMO.

if you dilute the pool by using the arbitrary qualifier "all-around" LB then Briggs obviously fares better, but i'm not sure what purpose that serves for the argument

are Harrison and Ware's roles that much different than that of Matthews, Wake? none of these guys are really asked to do much in coverage, for good reason: they terrorize QBs (and RBs)

then why not classify them as linemen, instead?

Kirwan has the Bears finishing 10-6 and missing the playoffs. I definitely fear this is a possibility.

Quite a few Packers fans seeing that scenario play out too, except with us instead of the Bears.

I'm not buying it. I think both the Packers and Bears are better teams than the Giants and Bucs. We'll see if that's proven over the next month.

Being better doesn't matter as much if they can't win 11. Bears need to be Redskin fans with 2 games against NYG and one vs Tampa.

Jay Cutler isn't even the top 10 under 30 QB in the league, says Terry Bradshaw:

http://msn.foxsports.com/video/shows/nfl-on-fox?vid=d1c21dbc-f91f-44bc-a16d-5f21f9361363

Eh, I wouldn't expect the mainstream media to put Cutler in that category. While the Bears as a team won over the media yesterday, Cutler didn't win over everyone because everyone knows Cutler is talented but they all think he has a penchant for stinkers and inconsistent play, because that's what he's shown. Granted, at least with the Bears, he hasn't had many tools to be successful so its impressive that he puts up the numbers that he does, but the mainstream media doesn't see or care about that. Cutler won't get his due until he has a monster season and/or leads a team deep into the playoffs on the strength of his arm, not despite it. If he can put up a season where he has like 28 TD and 13 INT, throw for 4,000 yards, complete 62% of his passes, he'll quickly shoot up the list.

Let's look at the list

1. Rivers

2. Roethlisberger

3. Rodgers

4. Ryan

5. Bradford

6. Flacco

7. Sanchez

8. Freeman

9. E. Manning

10. Schaub

I'd definitely put Cutler over the bottom 4. Bradford has a ton of potential and has been awesome this year, which is the mainstream justification for his high ranking. Flacco is living off both potential and the fact that the Ravens are making the playoffs every year. The top 4 are just really good consistent QBs who have started a playoff game before.

your assessment would still put Cutler in the top 10, if not top 5.

his reasoning is a joke.

Yup. I never said I thought he shouldn't be in the top 10. I was saying that knowing how the media in general thinks I don't think cutler is gonna get much respect until he sheds the "all talent no brains"/"loser since high school"/"inconsistent" labels he has.

LOL @ Freeman being ahead of Cutler. Are you freaking serious?

Oh well, what does he know? Behind Namath, Bradshaw is probably the most overrated QB in the history of the NFL.

I thought it was more hilarious that according to Bradshaw, WilsonA was actually correct Re: Cutler vs. Sanchez.

probably not justified in this opinion but this game terrifies me. like a previous poster said, they offer a lot of match up problems, we don't play well in their stupid dome and calvin johnson is unstoppable. i'd be happier if this detroit team had won some of its closer games because i know they are just gnashing at the bit to get one, especially against a rival flying high.

i also have bad memories of that stupid shaun hill drive that almost won them the game the first time. i hate shaun hill.

we don't play well in their stupid dome

Won by 14 last year despite being a bad team. Won by 27 the previous year despite being mediocre. 4-2 in Detroit during the Lovie era, with the only losses occuring during 5-11 and 7-9 seasons. The 2007 loss really stands out because it was when many of us still thought the Bears were good despite losing Briggs in the Cowboys game and having everything go downhill. Plus it was a terrible come from ahead loss. But I'm not really worried about playing there, per se.

They play better there, I think. But I don't think we are especially terrible there, compared to other road venues.

The Lions are bad, plain and simple. There's no excuse for losing next week. None at all.

Yay, Bears move from 12th to 7th in ESPN's power rankings

1. Falcons

2. Patriots

3. Jets

4. Ravens

5. Steelers

6. Saints

7. Bears

8. Packers

9. Eagles

10. Giants

Unfortunately the Bears are still the lowest 8-3 team, but I am not going to gripe about the Ravens, Steelers, or Saints being rated higher than the Bears.

Same on CBSSportsline. For the sake of griping, I will gripe about the Steelers being ahead of the Bears. The common games between them and the Bears are Miami and Buffalo. Steelers beat Miami by 1 thanks to a ruling worse than the Bears win over Detroit. Took them til OT to beat the Bills. Bears beat the Dolphins 16-0 and the Bills by a TD. Also, I'd be willing to bet that the Bears don't get wiped out at home vs. NE as the Steelers did.

Steelers only wins vs. teams above .500?

Miami- see above

Tampa- who is only over .500 because of their weak schedule.

Fewer quality wins + less impressive common game wins = Bears should be ahead.
