because sometimes taking a step forward means getting clobbered. why is that so hard to understand?

he rarely throws off his back foot unless it is imperative.

Well of course I don't want him to step up if he is going to get clobbered. Did you really think I meant that? I think jay throws off his back foot a lot more that when it is imperative.

well, that's conjecture.

It doesn't matter how good your mechanics or decision making are when you're on your butt because you couldn't get away from the rush. Now, Jay does make some curious in-pocket decisions on occasion, namely the fumble and the other sack in the 3rd quarter today, but most of these other guys you're talking about don't make the plays Jay can with his feet like the scramble where Suh hit him or the other one where he nearly lost his head from that attempted hit by Delmas.

And it doesn't matter how great your escapability is when you throw of your back foot and make terrible decisions at times when you are not under pressure. Brady, Brees, and Manning will get sacked more than Jay does in this offense. But they will make up for it with better mechanics and better decision making skills.

I don't read much of the Bears game threads, but you stand out quite a bit with your hatred of Cutler. I wonder if you're doing it because you actually think Cutler is bad or you enjoy arguing with the rest of the board week in and week out.

I don't hate Cutler, but I do enjoy a good argument if I think I am right as most posters here do. I have the same opinion of Cutler as I do with Luol Deng. They have fantastic ability, but are too inconsistent. I am hard on Cutler because I think he can play more consistent and has the tools to be a perennial Pro Bowler and I want to see that. What I say is not too different from any major commentator. The Bears are a good to great team, but you need more consistent QB play. People don't trust the Bears totally yet, but they are beginning to beacuse Jay is playing like the QB he should have been all along. I have no complaints with Jay the last five games. They can beat anyone with this defense and Jay not turning the ball over. Granted the line has stabilized too (by which i mean they aren't getting Jay absolutely killed every game) which is obviously crucial.

So you are Joe Morgan, then.

what on earth do you mean here? defense and jay not turning the ball over? have you been watching the games? jay has been making plays, not "managing" games. that's why we're winning, we aren't exactly going anywhere without cutler making plays and continuing to make plays.

if jay turns into trent dilfer, we are in trouble.

Wow seriously? Yahoo's headline is:

Questionable call helps Bears beat Lions.

Really Yahoo? They are talking about the freaking personal foul penalty on Suh for hitting Cutler on the scramble. First off all, if that was not called the Bears have the ball 2nd and 2 with the Bears having the ball at the Detroit 14. Even without the penalty, the Bears would have had a very good shot to get the short 1st down and have basically a goal to go situation to take the lead. Worst case, it's an easy game tying FG. Secondly, the hit was illegal. The penalty was called as a forearm to the head, which it was not. However, it was an unnecessary hit to the back of the head of a vulnerable player which is against the rules.

It was arguably a bad call the gave the Bears a break, but there Bears were moving the ball well and Cutler got the 1st down regardless of that call. It's a stretch to say that call gave them the game.

And I like how Wilson's argument has mutated to "yeah, Cutler is OK, but he's not as good as the three best QB's in football!"

Posted

Yeah, it was only 7 yards on the Suh penalty, and Cutler already had the 1st, but it's another thing for Lions fans to grab onto, instead of the fact that their team is good, but doesn't know how to win.

The really important question to answer is.....am I the only person that hadn't heard of "The Dougie" before Stanton's endzone celebration?

For like the fiftieth time, you are a smart guy but get intentionally stupid when reading my posts.

Jay has been throwing the ball around pretty much all season. I never said he was managing the game. But he was throwing the ball all around and turning it over. His yardage is slightly scaled back now, but he just isn't turning the ball over like he was early on.

He is better than OK right now. He is playing like a top 10 QB, the QB he should have been all along. I give Jay and the line some credit. But the line only gets credit for not being the worst in the league the last few games.

When Jay got here he was expected to bring with him Pro Bowl talent. It's finally nice to see it on a consistent basis.

the best dougie was the one braylon edwards did, you need to watch it with commentary, though.

"he's just doin the dougie!" the highlight of the video is when the offensive lineman runs up to the ref and starts mimicking what edwards was doing so the ref would know that he's just doing the dougie.

Atlanta is not helping. They are going to lose, keep the Bucs in it and the Bears will still not have homefield if both teams win out (or if NO wins out).

what does the tampa loss mean for the bears?

i guess it means they're almost out of the playoff hunt and our main competitors are the giants and new orleans for the wc. so root against NYG, NO, and GB the rest of the way.

I guess we'll have to root for NY when they play GB to help with the division. Does NO play anybody other than Atlanta the rest of the way?

Except that I believe we're hoping for NY to overtake PHI for the division since we hold the tiebreaker over PHI.

STL, @BAL, @ATL, TB

And I wouldn't count TB out of it, since they get @WAS, DET, SEA, and then end with @NO... they can easily be 10-5 going into that last week, and if the Bears end up 11-5, TB gets the WC spot (assuming GB wins the North).

When I watch that hit in real time, I still think it's a penalty.

When slowed down, as I think the league will do, they'll see that it does not deserve a fine.

I just don't know how an official could be expected to not flag something like that, given the current climate of trying to limit violent shots to the upper portion of players and how violently Cutler's head jerks around on that hit.

Plus, it was totally unnecessary to the play. I'd expect my player to just make a tackle. Why risk such a thing in a tight game when you know what the league has just said about unnecessarily rough hits?

At the very least it's a really, really stupid move for Suh to make.

If people want to call me a homer for feeling this way, then so be it. That's my take.

he wouldn't have done that if it was forte or taylor. he wanted to get a bonus lick on the quarterback because suh's a puke. you saw how delmas launched himself helmet-down, arms-tucked at cutler earlier in the game. he wouldn't have done that if it was a running back or a tight end.

the lions were thugging it up today because they had nothing to lose.
