Cutler 146 passer rating

11.8 yards per attempt. that's efficiency right there.

jay is the only qb that would have us in this position.

I don't know, I think Peyton Manning would have the Bears in the same position, likely.

no, he doesn't move well and in martz's system he has no ability to audible.

Peyton plays in the Manning system no matter who the OC is.

i'm speaking specifically to martz's system, though. of ocurse, if manning and martz butted heads, which they most assuredly would immediately, martz would be gone. but, for the sake of argument, we're talking about a qb with this line in this offense with these receivers.

Brady, Rodgers, Vick, Ryan, Rivers, and maybe Sanchez too. Cutler played great. Maybe his best game as a Bear, but I don't think he was the only guy who could do that.

Maybe Sanchez? Your view of Cutler is way off. I'd probably take Vick and Ryan off that list for sure, too.

your inclusion of sanchez completely defeats your own argument. but no, those other guys are very good to great, but we aren't talking simply very good to great quarterbacks here. i'm not saying jay would thrive in the ne offense, in fact, orton is probably much better suited to that anyway.

Cutler hopefully is finally shedding the "can't be a winning QB label".

Bears have already won more games than last year and are guaranteed a .500 or better season. 2-3 will probably take us to the playoffs. 3-2 might win us the division. If we beat the Lions next week, we're looking fantastic.

something that no one will talk about tomorrow, in fact will probably talk about the complete opposite:

they still can't really run the ball. they had 2 big plays (really 3, but the reffs :banghead: ) and that was it. they lose yards way. too. [expletive]. often. to rely on running the ball to effectively move down the field.

the only way they effectively move down the field is with jay cutler throwing the ball. thats it, thats the truth, no one wants to admit it, but its the truth.

you want some more proof? the entire fourth quarter. yes the eagles keyed in on the run, but we have no push and lost yards way too often to close the game out with a more statistically satisfying victory. we have to stop running on 1st down so conveniently for the opposition to put us in so many 3rd and long situations. it might have worked today, and last week, and for games before that, but we can't keep playing with fire.

i'm not saying we should abandon the run, but we're doing it too much on obvious downs and its hurting us.

Yeah, this was really huge. And unexpected.

I don't know really what to think right now. I didn't think we could do this. Jay was unbelievable. The defense stifled arguably the hottest player in the NFL, and at the same time kept a formidable array of weapons under wraps.

This was impressive as all hell.

When you have a three score lead in the fourth quarter, there's no such thing as running the ball too much.

Before that, the offense was clicking on all cylinders for 3 quarters on the way to 31 points.

i guess this comes off as too nitpicky, but god damn they blow so many plays up too often. i mean even when we had terrible OC's we didn't have absolutely disaster plays like 5-6 times a game where we lose 3-5 yards. its maddening.

I thought we ran the ball pretty damn well all things considered. The stretch type plays where we got the linemen pulling were effective.

Some things got blown up because of missed assignments.

Yeah we're probably a below average running offense but we've started to prove we can move the ball with some effectiveness at times. We ran the ball really well against Miami, and I think Minnesota. The biggest reason besides improved offensive line play is that the opponents have to respect Cutler's arm at this point. In most situations this will allow them to run with some effectiveness. In situations where the Bears are sitting on a big lead (something that hasnt happened much this season) and the D is keying on the run game, the Bears just aren't good enough to run with any effectiveness.

But bottom line is since the bye the Bears have run the ball rather decently. Certainly much better than last year's team.

Well this is silly.

Of course they ran in the 4th quarter with a 3 score lead. What are you talking about? Can only move the ball with Jay throwing it? I've been waiting for 40 years to be able to say we need our QB to move the ball.

No offense, but have you had a few too many?

Getting here a little late but, holy [expletive], didn't think the Bears had much of shot in this one.
Yeah, you had made that point quite emphatically earlier in this thread. :D

This is the statement win that we thought beating Dallas was at the time (before it was clear that Dallas sucks).

The defensive line play has gotten a lot better too. We're constantly rotating I2, Peppers, Adams, Toeiana, Melton, and Tommie. 4 sacks and numerous pressures that would've brought down a non Vick quarterback plus a few batted/tipped balls. They were relentless when Vick was keeping plays alive too.

wait wait wait, who said i was complaining about the decision to run the ball in the 4th quarter? of course you have to do it, its the execution thats the issue

i'm tired of seeing matt forte try to turn a corner and lose 2 yards. i'm tired of seeing chester taylor run forward into a dlinemen and lose 3 yards. i'm tired of seeing chester taylor juke 3 times in the backfield and lose a yard. i'm tired of chester taylor basically.

Toeiana and Melton have really come in and provided a needed boost. I think their contributions are getting lost a bit among the Peppers hype.

Not that I mind the Peppers hype.

peppers catching vick by his shoestring on one of those last drives to force a field goal was one of those plays no one else in the league could make. clearly something that was missing from the 07-09 iterations of the bears. its nice having him.

Awesome game! That offensive line still scares the crap out of me, but Cutler did a great job of keeping composure and making adjustments. Excellent defensive scheme by the Bears today to control Vick.

I guess someone fell from the stadium onto the street and died at the game today. Can you call over the top of Soldier Field?

I am trying to think where someone could fall out of the stadium onto the street. Any areas of the stadium I imagine that happening leave little chance of surviving. I think most of the areas would be around the columns that encircle the stadium. Also probably at the top of the North end zone. Either way, it's likely instant death.

Truly a tragedy that mars a huge win. I will pray for that guys family.

Wow....was he trying to commit suicide?

A man in his 20s died this afternoon after he fell out of Soldier Field and landed on a roof-top on the west side of the stadium, officials said.

The incident happened at about 4:55 p.m. as the Bears and the Eagles were playing, according to Chicago police and Fire Department officials. No one else was injured.

Chicago Fire Department Chief Joe Roccasalva said the man fell about 20 feet and landed on a small rooftop on the west side of the stadium near Lake Shore Drive. He was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at about 5:24 p.m., officials said.

Witnesses told emergency personnel that they saw the man run up to a ledge and jump.
