What have Len & Bob said in regards to his power?

Seriously, I don't know.

I love how you have to clarify that you are legitimately asking a question. :)

Man, I need to take on this "I'm going to bring something up and then just randomly decide when I'm not going to talk about it anymore" approach.

Sorry the last two posts were so short. I was posting from my phone on the run.

1. I've given several disclaimers in this thread and others that I'm not calling anyone out, arguing with anyone or claiming that anyone HERE is being ridiculous about his power potential.

2. I have specifically cited Len and Bob on WGN as annoying the crap out of me in their ravings about Castros potential power. ESPN is also to blame for the burr under my saddle.

3. I think the kid shows flashes of greatness and will be a solid to extraordinary player for years to come.

4. He's no Geovanny Soto.

5. I have heard A-rod and Griffey comparisons based mostly on his age and frame.

IN conclusion! I'm not arguing with anyone, but think that I have made a valid observation. I guess I just don't understand how your agreeing with my point invalidates it. I'm done.

Im not a fan of beating dead horses, but Im not quite sure what this one means? Is that supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing, because they're really completely different players in every way from their position to their style to their path to the major leagues.

The comparisons to Griffey and Arod aren't based on ceilings. They compare him to those two because those are the only two other players who hit .300 or higher in their age 20 seasons in recent history. It's more a testament that Starlin can be a very special player, not that he's going to be a 40 HR masher.

Yeah, that's all I had heard, too. I hadn't heard anyone comparing him to them in terms of the HR he's going to hit, and I haven't heard Len & Bob doing anything along these lines either. All I've heard are people saying "he's going to hit for more power" and the specific projections hovering around 15 or so season with most of the more optimistic ones projecting him to have a few 20+ HR seasons. Nothing terribly unreasonable.

Of course they are. It was just an attempt to light the mood.

Len & Bob Twitter says according to STATS, Castro has swung at 34 pitches this season and has not missed yet.

It's a bit early for it to be too amazing. There's some other guys who haven't missed yet. Shane Victorino, Alberto Callaspo, Todd Helton, Coco Crisp, Adam LaRoche, Andrew McCutchen, and Kurt Suzuki join him on the list.

Weirdly enough, of the players on that list only Todd Helton has swung at a higher percent of pitches seen than Starlin Castro.

he's really only swinging at strikes, though

From Joe Lefkowitz’s PitchFX tool:

that's pretty awesome pitch recognition/plate discipline so far

Wasn't Ernie Banks' original position ss? Did he always have power or did he develope it? Not comparing Castro to Banks, just askin.
Banks did start out as a SS. He hit 19 home runs in his rookie year and 44 the next year (that was back when the season was 154 games).

I know 12 games is still a small sample size, but it's definitely an impressive stretch of time to maintain an OPS over .900. Regardless of the team's success, this season is going to be fun to watch.

Fixed... Brett Jackson or McNutt or Vitters if they get called up would be fun to watch as well. Pena on a hot streak as well and Garza with his 14 H & K/9. Everyone else, well... ehhh

Yeah, who gives a [expletive] about that hack Soto or that lazy guy Aramis Ramirez.

it's pretty weird and front-runner-y to only have interest in watching baseball if we're serious contenders

i watched the [expletive] out of all the Cubs teams throughout the '90s that all sucked a dick ('98 season excepted, of course)

It's kind of snobby and near-sighted to assume that's what it means when someone loses interest because of failure. If you're the type of fan who lives and dies with the team, then you and your family could very well be better off if you distance yourself from the team rather than sit through every inning of August 2006 Cubs baseball. You're no less of a fan, you just enjoy sanity.

LOL Well... A Ram, beside last year, was so consistent with the Cubs that you just knew what he's gonna do most of the time. Soto is a good to great player, but not really "fun" to watch IMO. Doesn't matter though as I will still watch as many Cubs games as possible (living in Arkansas for architecture school now). At least I got WGN on my cable, then I'll get the Astros/Cubs games among others. I'll also get to see the Cubs/Royals game June 26th (day before my bday).

sneaky.. I remember those teams in the 90s and watch them as well. Most of the time it was god awful.
