4 @ $1.65M per for Boogard

that has to be a joke

Yeah, no way. But MacKenzie is confirming it on TSN.

Lydman to ANH. At least they're actually addressing their needs this off-season, even if Lydman is mediocre.

lol @ goons getting that much money. Brian Burke started this with Colton Orr last year. Just baffling.

Some guy in my office, who pretends that he's into hockey because he doesn't want to be called a fair weather fan even though everyone knows he couldn't care less about the Hawks in March, started a conversation with me about NHL Free Agency. Surprised I said "oh yeah, what you do think is going to happen today?" This guy got all excited that I wanted to hear his insights about hockey and said "I'm pretty sure I read today that the Hawks are going to get Kave-latchuck (his pronounciation). That's why they traded Buff...so they could get him".

I stared at him for a second, and then turned around and went back to work.

Ivan Vishnevskiy (their #2 prospect) and a 2nd rounder

Talent Analysis

A fluid skater, Vishnevskiy has all the offensive tools to become a powerplay quarterback in the NHL. He’s undersized and only average in his own end, two things that will work against him at the professional level. However, he has the vision and skill set that enable him to be a great puck-mover. Reads plays well and has the skating ability to stay in the play defensively, but isn’t consistent enough in that regard. Needs to figure out a way to handle power forwards effectively.

Future

Potential: Second pairing offensive defenseman and power play quarterback, similar to Lubomir Visnovsky.

I'm beginning to wonder if the assumption that Huet will be written off is wrong.

it's hard to bury him. he is the second best goalie in the hawks pipeline and niemi isn't someone you can just bank on yet. not that huet is a lock to be anything worthwhile if niemi fails, but crawford is a lock to be pretty awful. at least huet has had extended NHL success, even if he hasn't experienced it with the hawks.

We do seem to be getting a lot of the highest rated prospects from other clubs. Figures, the old man dies after he gets a [expletive] salary cap in.

Interesting that we're still trading guys. Coupled with Bowman's comments, it seems one of two things is true:

1) he's lying and they were/are still in cap hell and he just wants to keep playing with other GM's from a position of strength

2) he wants to get enough under the cap to make a different move

#1 seems more likely, but I guess #2 could be possible, as well.

#1 does not seem likely to me.

I think #1 is extremely likely. Why else would he go about saying those quotes after the Buff trade?
