The Hawks would still be responsible for all of Huet's contract unless this Swiss team foolishly agrees to pay for some of it. It obviously would not count against the cap though

Right. The amount of the Hawks would have to actually pay him has never been the issue. Clearing him off the salary cap numbers has always been the key.

 

yes, but they can do that by simply sending him to rockford. i imagine they want to be nice to huet and send him somewhere he wants to be, but i also imagine that they can probably get SOME of his salary paid by loaning him to another team.

The NY Post is reporting that the NHL could grandfather in Luongo and Hoss's contracts under the new rules and void them. What a stupid idea! If you let the contracts slide at first, how can you go back on that? What a screwed up league.

I don't see a problem with saying that something that was allowed in 2009 is no longer allowed going forward. What they can't do is actually tear up the contracts.

I read that the proposal is they would be grandfathered in, and a new rule would be putt in place going forward. If these terms are not accepted, then an investigation would be opened.

Considering that's what "grandfathering" means, that's what I read too.

 

Now if you're going to make up your own definition for what being grandfathered actually means, then I can see where Wilson's coming from. Actually, I still can't.

Sources tell TSN that the NHL and the NHL Players' Association have reached an agreement on an amendment to the rules that govern long term contracts.

 

The two sides are now working on getting the paperwork done in time for the 5pm et deadline both sides agreed upon to render a verdict on the Ilya Kovalchuk contract situation.

 

The agreement means that Kovalchuk's contract with the New Jersey Devils will also get approved as part of a new global settlement. His 15 year, $100 million will be approved once all of the agreements between the league and PA are signed. Deals like those signed by Kovalchuk, Roberto Luongo, Marian Hossa, and Marc Savard will be the last of their kind.

That's a good move and it will work out for everyone. Kovalchuck's contract did circumvent the salary cap, but the rules allowed it at the time.
