Tom Thibodeau has accepted the Bulls' 3-year offer to become the team's 18th head coach in franchise history, according to sources. No formal announcement can be made until the conclusion of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Thibodeau's Celtics.

Sources said Thibodeau is expected to keep Pete Myers on his staff and bring with him former Bulls and current Thunder assistant Ron Adams. Other candidates for his staff include Thunder assistant Mo Cheeks, former Knicks assistant Andy Greer and former Kings coach Eric Musselman.

Former Bull Rick Brunson will be considered for player development roles, joining expected holdover Randy Brown.

Supposedly Thibs is going to bring Ron Adams and Mo Cheeks in to be assistants on his staff. 2 very good choices, and a great start at putting together a great staff.

I really like the idea of bringing in a guy like Mo Cheeks, cause you know Rose will learn alot from Mo.

this is most likely just posturing and part of the "summer of lebron" publicity stuff by WWW, but still interesting

World Wide Wes has been telling everyone that he believes LeBron James(notes) is leaning hard toward signing with the Chicago Bulls. No one can be certain if basketball’s most famous middleman has been whispering honest insights to friends or amping the anxiety of Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert. Just know this: It wasn’t until Tom Thibodeau – who swore he never again wanted an agent – signed with William Wesley’s CAA that the Chicago Bulls grew serious about the coach’s candidacy.

Something pushed Bulls officials to get on a plane, fly to Los Angeles on the eve of the NBA Finals and meet with the Boston Celtics assistant coach. Within 48 hours, the Bulls had a deal for Thibodeau to become their head coach. For several weeks, the Bulls had chances to interview him. They never did. Just a year ago, Thibodeau couldn’t get offers from the Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons, Philadelphia Sixers and Minnesota Timberwolves. The Celtics see him as a career assistant and wouldn’t even consider him as a candidate to replace Doc Rivers.

^^ that's really weird..especially the part about the Celtics considering him a career assistant. Guess we'll have to wait and see. There was also a report from an Orlando reporter saying that sources told them LBJ and Bosh were "seriously considering" joining Wade in Miami, and taking a slight pay cut to do so in hopes of winning a championship.

Yeah, about James and Bosh going to Miami and taking a pay cut to do it, has as much chance of happening as the LA Clippers do at landing Lebron James. It wouldn't surprise me to know that the Orlando reporter's source is Dwayne Wade.

As for the Celtics call him a "career assistant" is a blatant insult and the Celtics should know better. One could say that Phil Jackson was a career minor league coach at the time the Bulls hired him. Gregg Popovich might have been considered a career assistant coach/front office personnel. Not comparing Thibo with either coach, still this sounds like sour grapes by Boston, because they know there window is closing.

I don't know much about Thibs, but I'll bet Boston is miffed he didn't wait until the Finals are over to sign. I'd probably be a little upset too.

Why?

Unwanted distraction.

Would it have been better for him to interview and not make a decision on the job for the entire Finals? Or know he would be interviewed but have it hanging over their heads the entire finals?

Some co-workers (that are clearly not big NBA fans) are over here talking about trying to lure Lebron, and were talking about the supporting cast that the Bulls have...."like Jalen Rose"

I am amused.

If I was a fan of that team, I'd feel better if he didn't interview until the Finals are over.

Doesn't bother me. It's not like he's busy doing work for the Bulls rather than preparing for the Lakers.

That's cool. I just have this attitude when my team is going for it all, I want everyone doing nothing but thinking about that goal. But I understand others may not quite feel the same way.

I can't imagine any name coach going to Cleveland until they see who's going to actually be on the team.

$30 million is a nice start.
