What is he expecting the Bulls do with Jordan and Pippen?

JR should have stepped aside and let Jordan buy the team from him. And just to show even more loyalty, JR should probably have given him a nice deal too, because of all Jordan's done for the Bulls.

And remember when Pip said he wanted to coach and the Bulls didnt take him seriously and hired VDN? Well they should have just hired Pippen on the spot when he made those quotes.

Did Wade stop to consider that Johnny Kerr was the team's broadcaster for like 30 years, Norm Van Lier was a longtime pre and postgame commentator for Sportschannel/Fox Sports Chicago/CSN Chicago (while not directly affiliated with Bulls, I'm sure the Bulls had something to do with that), Bob Love still has a job with the organization, John Paxson was the radio color guy, then our GM and now a VP, Bill Cartwright was given a chance to be the coach, Scottie Pippen was resigned to finish his career in Chicago, Bill Wennington is the radio color guy, Pete Myers is a longtime assistant coach. I'm sure there are still some I am missing.

Lindsay Hunter was brought back to the front office.

So was John Paxson. And Bill Cartwright got a shot at coaching.

Ugh...I should've read the quotes...lol...I'm having a bit of a brain dead day.

You have to wonder what Wade's true motives about these comments are. Maybe some negative recruiting. I mean, the Bulls paid Jay Williams even though his motorcycle accident was an obvious and clear violation of his contract.

The Bulls may be incompetent at times, but the organization is far from disloyal.

Ozzie's message to Cleveland: 'Bye-Bye LeBron'

May 26, 2010 3:52 PM | 20 Comments

Staff report

Manager Ozzie Guillen was in agitation overdrive during the White Sox's visit to Cleveland this week.

Before being ejected during the second inning of Wednesday's 5-4 Sox victory, Guillen had some fun with an Indians fan before Tuesday's game. As first reported on the Dan LeBatard Show, he signed a baseball with taunting messages sure to sting Cleveland sports fans fearful of losing LeBron James to free agency:

"Bye Bye Lebron!! LOL"

"When are you going to win anything in sports? Please"

Asked about the ball after Wednesday's game, Guillen confirmed the messages were written by him but said he did it for "a friend."

Ozzie has friends in Cleveland? Who knew?

Yeah I definitely understand how people could hate Guillen, but I don't mind him at all.

As for what I said earlier, I guess I was just disappointed with the lack of MJ being around the Bulls ever since he retired the second time. I don't really remember Jordan at the UC all that much besides some random games throughout the years or when he was on hand for Pippen's retirement ceremony.

I don't think Pippen should have been given the head coaching gig either but if VDN got an interview (with no prior coaching experience), why couldn't Scottie? But again, I believe some reporter probably just set him up for that response by citing some examples about the front office. I don't really think Wade meant anything hostile by it. I really wouldn't read too much into it.

Randy Brown is the Director of Player Development I'm pretty sure.

BJ Armstrong had a job with the team for a while too. I think the points been proven. The Bulls have been plenty loyal to former players.

Whats everybodys opinion on Brian Shaw?

With LeBron James telling some confidantes he's intrigued by the triangle offense, some have speculated Lakers assistant Shaw could emerge as a serious candidate. He, too, is busy with the conference finals.

Make the Lakers worried that they are about to lose their heir to the throne, forcing them to commit to giving up on PJ by offering Shaw the HC gig. Jackson is unemployed and spurned by LA. Signs with Chicago. Win.

" D-Wade is absolutely wrong," Williams said Thursday evening in a phone interview. "The Bulls did nothing but stand up for me in a time of trouble. (Chairman) Jerry Reinsdorf and (then-general manager) John Paxson were great to work with. Nobody said they had to take care of me for an extra year after I got hurt.

"They kept me on medical insurance through surgery after surgery. They showed me the family style that the organization was run by. I have no words to explain what they did for me. I'm thankful to them for the rest of my life."

"I haven't walked in almost three weeks," Love told the Tribune. "I've been really down. I suffered an acute case of gout that I almost caught too late. I kept hurting and didn't know what it was and I was treating it with the wrong medication.

"Jerry Reinsdorf, (marketing vice president) Steve Schanwald and (legal vice president) Irwin Mandel searched around and found doctors for me. They said don't worry about the costs. Just get me up here walking. (Friday) I'm supposed to be able to get out of bed for the first time in weeks."

Why should Wade care about the Bulls being loyal and giving jobs to Paxson, Armstrong, Cartwright, Pete Meyers, etc? He's a superstar. He should only be concerned about how teams treat their superstars.

Jordan and Pippen were not allowed to finish their careers with the Bulls. They are not with the Bulls currently in any capacity. He should be concerned about that to be honest. Obviously, he doesn't really know what he's talking about but he has every right to wonder why neither superstar is involved with a team they took to 6 championships in 8 years.

He's not really concerned with that though, right? He's just trying to badmouth the Bulls since he's essentially competing with them for free agent help.

Jordan would have been "allowed" to do whatever he wanted with the Bulls. His separation from the organization is pretty much all based on his own doing and his own decisions.

The Bulls treated their superstars just fine. They paid them a lot of money and built teams around them that enabled them to get 6 rings as Bulls and retired their numbers and treat them with reverence and celebration the few times when they show up for an event. It was Jordan's decision to end his career with another team as a player, not the Bulls, and they did bring Pippen back so he could finish his career with them. They then gave him a job with the organization but he left that to work for ABC, then he got caught up with the idea that he could keep playing. I don't see how you can really fault the Bulls with these guys.

When did I fault the Bulls? I agree with everything you said. But I'm sure DWade doesn't see it that way, which is why I said he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. My point is, him looking at the Bulls right now and not seeing Jordan or Pippen involved in the organization should cause him to raise an eyebrow....justified or not.

I'm not sure why it "should" cause him to raise an eyebrow. And since it's not justified, I think he "shouldn't" do it. But since it's about competing for free agents, I see why he'd do it.

Regarding Jordan I was listening to a radio show on the topic yesterday and they made some points that are likely true regarding the situation. First of all Jordan was offered a role in the organization when he retired for the 2nd time, but he declined (most likely because he wanted ownership stake and wanted to eventually be the majority owner of the team). After that JR and Jordan never spoke about it again because it was clear that Jordan wanted different things. And that's fine, who the hell said MJ HAD to work with the Bulls org. Also, JR paid Jordan's basketball salary when he was trying out minor league baseball instead of him getting a minor league baseball salary. This is said to be out of respect for what Jordan did for the Bulls (but could also be because there was hope or a pre-existing discussions that he might come back and they wanted him under contract). Since Jordan has retired, when not owning majority stakes in another team, he has appeared several times in luxury boxes when the Bulls were in the playoffs or having a good run. He has also been to several team events honoring other Bulls legends (Kerr, Pippen, Phil Jackson) and has spoken at a couple of them. He went in the Bulls locker room after the Bulls beat the team that MJ owns to congratulate them on making the playoffs. He has made an effort to get to meet and know many of the above average Bulls players to get drafted by the team and make an impression on them. After his 2nd retirement and before his 3rd, he could occasionally come by Bulls practice at the Berto Center and randomly challenge players to games of 1 on 1.

Does any of this sound like a man who has been alienated by the team he played for? Would all this have occured if the Bulls werent loyal to him after he left the team?

As for Pip, he too has been seen at many Bulls games since his retirenent through thick and thin. He at one point (or currently?) wrote about the Bulls on NBA.com and once lobbied for the Bulls coaching job (although I am not sure if the Bulls took it seriously). He has also been at many Bulls ceremonies honoring the Bulls. I don't get where the idea that these 2 are estranged from the team.

Wade is just blurting out things he heard. I don't think it'll matter one way or another.

He probably remembers Chicago going after TMac and Grant Hill and all those guys after 2000 and being shut out because of the league view of Jerry Krause.

And because the Bulls were [expletive] awful the year before.

My recollection is that the Bulls were only really competing with Orlando for free agents and they ended up getting Hill and McGrady.

The Magic were better but I'm not sure how eager they were to go play with Darrell Armstrong and Tariq Abdul Wahad (and a young Ben Wallace but no one knew how good he would be then). I just remember everyone talking about how no one would want to go play for Jerry Krause after he broke up the dynasty.

I don't doubt the Krause played a role, but the Magic were 500 and the Bulls won 17 games. There was a pretty sizable difference between the talent levels of the two teams.

yeah, it really sucks when you can pay a guy and his medical bills after he blatantly broke a rule the team had set for him in his contract and still get villified.

wade is a dumb guy, very very dumb.

yeah, but didn't they have a ton of expiring contracts that year? that was the whole reason they could sign two max FAs. it definitely wasn't talent level. they were an average team that had to jettison most of their average talent.

Looking at basketball-reference, it seems most of their expiring contracts were old junk, but they did lose Mercer and Maggette who you'd think would be seen as young talent back then. I'm trying to figure out how that team ever went 500.
