Personally? Nothing, as far as I know. I'm pretty indifferent towards him as writer. He seems to have a decent attitude towards stats, but like most of his brethren he has a very "of the moment, what have you done for me lately?" approach with articles like the one that was linked.

wait, wait, wait...what? methinks you're confusing Neyer with someone or you didn't read him much before he went "insider." I'm guessing he was the primary source for most stat-friendly people on this site (and almost everywhere).

I don't understand where people seem to think that I'm slamming Neyer's opinions on stats. I might not think he's the "Einstein" of them, but I just said I'm indifferent towards him as a writer.

saying someone that spearheaded the popularity of a movement such as stats in baseball has a "decent attitude" towards that movement sounds a little...I don't know what the word is, but it's not good.

The 50/50 line didn't really seem to be the focus of the article. Just that the Soriano contract was and is a pretty bad one, primarily due to the $18m he's going to get each of the next 5 years.

I'm not sure who Neyer's brethren are, but you certainly seem to be slamming him.

Hey, I can't stop you from taking it that way. I'm just not that impressed with him as a writer (example: "Soriano has a bad contract!" Everyone else: "And...?"). It's cool that he's smart enough to be able to point people towards better statistical analysis in baseball and that he recognizes its importance, but I've never read anything by him that has made me go, "wow, this guy has some serious insight into sabermetrics and something new to offer along those lines!" He just recognizes how useful they are, and that's grand.

Soriano had a good two and a half weeks but in the last 28 days he's

.188/.296/.420/.717

Couple that with putrid defense and he's virtually worthless.

So what happens when he has a 28 days that's something like .300/.375/.600/.975 and has 5 outfield assists, does that mean he's worth the money?

Look everyone knows its one of the 3 or 4 worst contracts in sports and that it should result in Hendry not only being fired, but never hired in an important position again, but it doesn't mean that he's a useless player that would only get a minimum contract if he were a free agent. What is so hard to understand about that?

We all agree that Soriano's contract is terrible, but if owners fired and refused to hire every GM that signed a player to a ridiculous contract, there would be a lot of GM jobs open to all of us "experts" at NSBB.

he's not at the forefront at this point, but he was 15 years ago. I'm just surprised by your characterization of him.

Well, that stupid editorial has settled everything.

Why do you insist on being a dick? I was just providing evidence that I was not the only one who thought this way. Neyer is pretty respected baseball writer not some smuck on a message board who insists on acting 12 whenever he can.

You mean "schmuck." And why do you insist on trumping up such an inane, ridiculous argument with outdated editorials from the likes of Neyer? These are mysteries the world will never solve.

The likes of Neyer over anonymous people on the internet? I think I'll take Neyer. I'm not trumping anything. I was just providing a piece of information for schmucks like you, who insist on acting like a teenager for chuckles from your buds.

except neyer didn't agree with you. he said there was a 50/50 chance that he is going to be released BY THE TIME HIS CONTRACT ENDS. he said nothing about releasing him now.

Can we separate this Soriano non sense into its own thread? Firing Lou is the important thing right now, not that 1 person illogically thinks Soriano wouldn't get picked up by basically every team in the majors for the league minimum?

Where's old Chuck Cubs bringing rationality and calm demeanor in the form of onion gravy recipes and Corey Patterson idolatry when we really need him?
Posted
And for the record when Lee is inevitably traded, I see no reason not to give Soriano a long try at first. IF he could handle it, that move would be ideal.

? the chances of lee being traded seem pretty microscopic to me. he has a NTC, and i doubt anybody would want him right now anyways. they'll just let him walk after this season

yes, jim hendry is going to look to this thread to decide whether to fire lou and if he sees it's an unorganized mess, he won't even bother. let's get our ducks in a row, people.

Wtf are you talking about? Who said anything about Hendry? I understand you are trying to be your normal smartass, arrogant, prick self, but at least make sense when you are trying to. The Soriano discussion has nothing to do with "Fire Lou Piniella" so it should be separated into its own thread. Hard to understand?

It takes like 5 seconds to hit "add foe" and never have to see somebody's posts again. For all the complaining about certain members of this board, I haven't understood the reluctance by so many to hit a button and make them essentially disappear.

Every once in a while you write something worth reading, and I don't want to miss those.

Completely forgot about the Foe button.
