If there is one thing I want the Cubs to do before the year is out is that they need to stop referring Zambrano as an ace. Cause Z is no ace.

I've been on the Z bandwagon his entire career, but I think it's about time to cut ties. He's far too much of a headcase to be relied on for any sort of superstar performance.

Ballgame. I'm out.

This is why I need to stop looking forward to things. It always ends in disappointment. If I think bad things will happen, then I don't get pissed off when they do, and if they don't it's a nice surprise.

Ok, who had page 19 of the opening day game thread in the "When will Erik call BALLGAME first" derby?

Do you think the Cubs will win this game, IMB? Because if you do I'd like to wager one month of BAN on it.

But you're a little man who never backs up anything he says so you won't take me up on it.

Everyone seems like a little man to you.

god dammit you beat me to it.

Knowing Z's history of short Opening Day outings, do you think Marshall prepared for today like a start?

Probably.

Starting Z on Opening Day seems like one of those things you wouldn't do, knowing his mentality, if you didn't have to consider his feelings moving forward and the media jackals jumping all over it.

I'm not mad that we're going to lose, I'm mad that I've been looking forward to this in weeks and the game is out of hand in the first half hour and now the most entertaining thing is to watch all the hysterical sniping in this thread.

I'm just glad I wasn't anticipating this season much until this morning.

Ooooohhhh, hard knock to his counterpart at short there by Theriot.

If a pitcher throws a perfect game, he would have to strike out 11 people to be under a 60% rate of contact. At the very least, 60% is not bad. How many pitchers strike out over 40% of the people they face on a avg?

A perfect game with 11 strikeouts or fewer is incredibly lucky on the pitchers part. That's why they are so rare.

I'd imagine the majority of shutouts have 11 Ks or fewer.

Probably so. But the point he was making is still dumb for a lot of reasons.

If they do one thing, that's what you hope it is?

The point is still that 60% of balls in play is not really bad or at least can not be judged in a vaccum with out the context of how the balls were hit. By your definition a pitcher would have to strike out 40% of the people he faces to not be bad.

Unless it's the playoffs where Z's been great in his last 2 starts. (Unless you're a buffoon and consider that inning where he had to get 14 outs his fault)

Agreed. Zambrano hasn't been an ace in years. He's average to above average.
