You know, I really hate when idiots bitch and moan at the pitcher in innings like this, they just show how completely ignorant they are about the game of baseball.

Your pitcher faced 10 batters.

He walked 2, struck out 1, gave up 1 home run and allowed six balls in play.

That's not 54.00 ERA bad, but it's bad.

that's a weird way of saying he got six guys to hit the ball weakly

My son was born last Tuesday, I guess I should go ahead and change the station to avoid getting him hooked on the Cubs. What should I do?

Do everything in your power to make sure he doesn't grow up a Cubs fan if you truly love him.

So who should I turn him onto?

Pirates.

At least then he doesn't get his hopes up and you don't have to deal with his team beating the Cubs much.

of the 6 balls in play, 2 possibly could have been caught for an out

But they weren't. And that's why we don't credit or debit the pitcher for what happens on balls in play.

It was a bad inning that got turned into an awful inning by bad luck, but let's not pretend it wasn't a bad inning. 30% of the batters he faced were either walked or homered. With average BABIP luck, he gives up two hits, so that puts 5 of the 10 men he faced on base.

This ass kissing of Jayson Heyward is beyond ridiculous.

No offense to the young man, but I hope he goes away like Jordan Schafer did last yr.

Pretty much... this is why half the board stops doing game threads after a week or two.

It's not just the board. The media will do the same damn thing. They will praise a pitcher who gives up 3 line drive outs and criticize a guy who gives up 5 bloop singles.

It's amazing how much better a teams defense looks when they have a real shortstop (with the exception of Glaus who looks lost).

Weakly hit balls are still a risk of turning into hits.

10% home runs, 20% walks, 10% strikeouts, 60% contact is always going to be a recipe for bad.

Absolutely unreal... it's almost unfathomable.

go be a pirates fan and tell me how much fun you have in 5 years.

well i got out of the car thinking "sweet, marlon byrd might actually be pretty solid for us."

then i got into the office, into a meeting and when i stepped out and checked my phone... 6-3. Wonderful.

Ah i remember why i dont do game threads, the amount of panic over 1 inning when there is AT LEAST 1457 innings left and 161 more games. Just a reminder, the cubs lost the opener in both 2007 and 2008 and lost the first 2 in 2008. In 2006 they slaughtered the reds, just saying opening day has little to do with the rest of the year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Z's lost his composure.

After them bragging about it so much, I really hope he implodes big time today. Like kills a cajun, implodes.

Pirates fans aren't tortured. They are apathetic.
