he was Big Ten Freshman of the Year and all

Picking nits, but no he wasn't. DJ Richardson won one vote, and Drew Crawford won the other.

Huh, not sure why I thought he was.

Regardless, that's not picking nits. That's a rather serious factual error.

Watford was the best post player on the team, but is not a post player. A legit big that can play w/ his back to the basket would free up Watford to play more of the 3 role and slash, shoot the midrange J, etc. I think Crean tried to do this toward the end of the year starting just a 2-guard lineup (w/ Elston, Watford, Capo up front).

That being said though, I don't see any reason Watford can't get stronger and less tentative (I believe he is every bit as explosive as Elston if he plays more aggressively) and be an effective post player.

I want to be clear I don't think Watford is dogmeat or something. He's going to be a good player at IU. I'm thrilled to have him. But he showed absolutely no explosiveness whatsoever this year. Elston had probably twice as many dunks this year in half as many minutes. That's not completely dispositive, but at least circumstantial.

Yeah. The freshmen weren't really that impressive this year, and the early season clear-cut favorite for Freshman of the Year didn't play a single conference game.

If he wants a shot at a title in his one and done college career, I think UT offers a better chance next season.

What?

No.

Wrong.

I think losing 3 starters is a great way to go from 6 seed to title contender.

Well, when you bring in two of the Top 6 players in the country, as well as 2 other Top 50 guys and a solid transfer, it is.

And if Kansas loses Collins, Aldrich, and Henry, how do you think they're a more legit title contender again?

Because Kansas is probably equal to Tennessee this year without those guys? And Tennesse is going to lose their whole damn team next year? (minus Hopson)

The only graduating player who will be real hard to replace is Chism. Prince is a nice player, as is Maze, but we have good defensive players who can step into Prince's role and Goins should be close to Maze's ability by next year.

Between Brian Williams and Kenny Hall I think we can get similar production on the block that we got this year, even before you factor in improvement from Tobias Harris. I'm not arguing we'll be a favorite to win the title, but we shouldn't regress much, if any.

Riiiiight. I'm shocked that your hatred of Pearl has blinded you this badly.

Wait.... no I'm not.

I don't know how good UT will be.

If we get Selby, we should be pretty good.

UT will be a Top 20 team without Selby. If they get him and add him to Tobias Harris, there is a good chance they are better next season than this. This is why I have to laugh at people like SSR making such ignorant comments.

Posted
I think we'll likely be top 20 w/o Selby, too. If we grab Selby, we could be very good.

I don't see how you are top twenty without Selby, who would be the point guard? Tyshawn Taylor?

Probably Elijah Johnson and Taylor will be responsible for handling the ball.

Still have a talented front line with both Morrises, Robinson, and Withey.

w/o Selby

PG Johnson/Taylor

SG Reed/Morningstar

SF Releford/Little

PF McMorris/Robinson

C MkMorris/Withey

w/ Selby

I'm not sure who gets bumped. I'd like to see Morningstar start to get phased out. He does a lot of nice things, but I feel like he's been a bit of a liability at the end of both seasons.

To follow up on this, was it my blind hatred of Pearl that had me correctly say how absurd it was that they were a 2 a few years back(The year they nearly lost to Winthrop, and were then embarrassed by Wichita) Or when I correctly called the SEC total ass, leading to a typical Tennesee 1st round loss?

Sweet 16 3 out of 4 years is a "typical 1st round loss"? Okay.

I guess that isn't quite as dumb as saying that KU without Collins, Aldrich, and Henry was equal to Tennessee this year. Nevermind that Tennessee beat Kansas with those 3 guys and without 4 of its own top 8 players. Brilliant.

If head to head triumphs all, maybe you should be concerned with another 3rd place finish in the SEC East before you start worrying about national titles considering how Vandy and UK abused you this year.

I can't wait for that scumbag to land you on probation.

Is Marc Maggard a credible source? He seems to think if Iowa offers Forbes that Iowa would immediately move toward the top of Selby's favorites and that Negedu would look to find a home there as well as he believes UT will not clear him to play.

No, marc maggard is a joke. Doesn't mean he's wrong, but he's not very credible.

Elaborate, I had never heard about about him until today. He's all over the Iowa board pimping Steve Forbes for the job. He, along with an Indiana AAU coach rave about Forbes' recruiting and say he would have multiple top 100 kids to Iowa within a year.

I think I'd rather have Forbes than guys like Brownell or Boylen. Though I think Gregory would be a really good choice.

I don't know Marc Maggard, but Forbes is probably Tennessee's best recruiter (along with Bruce himself). I'm pretty sure he's been a key part in most of our better recruits and current prospects.

That's what everyone says dew. He had a nationally ranked class to La. Tech and was a key to Gillispie's recruiting at A&M. Left there for Tennessee because he thought Billy Clyde went bat spit crazy. He has said he would crawl to Iowa City for the job and today he told reporters it's his dream job.

Unfortunately it seems like Barta is going to play it safe and take random mid-major guy because he's scared off by Forbes' lack of experience. Now is exactly the time to take a risk on a guy like Forbes.

I won't pretend to be knowledgeable about all the coaching candidates out there, but it'd be hard to get a better hire than Steve Forbes, in my opinion. Very good bench coach and an excellent recruiter who has been a part of several very successful programs (including building up Tennessee from virtually a non-factor in basketball).
