was it a surprise that the chargers didn't tender sproles?

Very much so to me. Especially after cutting LT, I figured they'd hold onto Sproles. Apparently, though, he wanted a long term deal and they only wanted to give him 1-2 (or 3 tops) years.

I figure the Chargers will look running back very early in the draft.

or Thomas Jones

Possible, though I'd look for a longer term type back if I were them. Maybe sign Jones and draft a kid in the 1st or 2nd round.

I think the Chargers will go after a RB in the 1st round. Maybe a Ryan Matthews? I think they will bring in a veteran RB, but not a high profile guys like Thomas Jones or Westbrook. Maybe a guy like Buckhalter who is not a real threat to the draft pick. Though, I think Chester Taylor would be the perfect fit for that offense. They could go after Taylor and then wait til the 2nd/3rd for a RB.

Very interesting, if accurate.

According St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bryan Burwell, the Rams have had "intense internal conversations" about a possible trade for Donovan McNabb.

We're not sure what to make of this report. Burwell characterized the talks as "internal" and also involving the Eagles, which is obviously oxymoronic. Burwell's colleague at the Post-Dispatch, Bernie Miklasz, is "skeptical" of the report, doubting the Eagles are serious about dealing McNabb. The reported price is a second-round pick, which has us skeptical as well.

can someone explain to me these 1st/2nd/3rd round tender offers? I don't remember them from past seasons

There are different levels that a restricted free agent can be tendered a contract.

1st and 3rd round. The most expensive for the retaining team, but other teams have to offer up a 1st and 3rd rd pick to sign the player.

1st round. The next step down, the signing team must offer up its first round pick to sign the player.

2nd round. Same as 1st round tender.

Original round tender. The lowest contract a team can tender to an RFA. A signing team must offer up a pick in the same round the player was originally drafted in.

I think that's all of them. Most all of the tender levels have been available before this year, but there may have been a couple of additions coming with the uncapped year.

didnt matt moore have a really good end of the season?

of course, he could have 1 arm and he would still be better than delhomme

let's predict where some of these RBs end up. I say Westbrook to.... Minnesota.

Yes he did. He was probably going to be the #1 QB next year anyway; Delhomme would have been an expensive backup.

Had Carolina actually said anything about a QB battle or was that the media speculation? In any case, I'm glad they did this. Jake deserved a better ending, but them's the breaks.

Any speculation of Carolina picking a QB in the draft is silly, they will probably pick up some unknown to back up Moore.

Antonio Cromartie was traded from the Chargers to the Jets for a third-rounder.

If they think he's healthy enough that will probably happen.

The Panthers released Jake Delhomme.

Andy is in mourning. :D

Wow, they still owed him $12.5 million guaranteed. That's awful for football

There's been a whole bunch of guys added to the list of restricted free agency, instead of unrestricted, due to CBA situation, which means it's in the news a lot more. But this is the thing that cost the Bears a pick when Angelo famously forgot to check the proper box on the offer sheet for, I believe, Rosevelt Colvin.
