Penn State guys....have you heard anything recently about Marcus Lattimore? He is supposedly going to choose between Auburn, Penn State, Mississippi State, and Oregon the night before signing day. Auburn already has a top RB committed in Michael Dyer, but there is certainly room for two elite RBs.

for purely selfish reasons, I like it. This allows me to like TN again, as I liked their fans when they came to ND and generally like the TN fans I know. And it allows me to combine my hatred of USC for my hatred of Kiffin, who's a slimeball.

Losing Colt, then the MNC, then Muschamp in less than a week would be worse than the 2003 NLCS for me.

Yeah this would suck, though I know its going to happen sooner rather than later. Rumors were talking about Hicks and Jeffcoat committing very soon (some about Hicks committing to Texas and other about his committing to Ohio State). And Brown is not going to retire for probably another 5 years. Why can't they want Greg Davis instead.

I do like Tennessee though, and if he goes there hope he has a ton of success. I'm curious as to the staff he would assemble too. Wonder if he would try to take Major Applewhite as the OC or go with someone who has more experience.

From players in the meeting:

Coaches not only offered schollies to the early enrollees, but were texting and calling current recruits, which is an NCAA violation because it is a quiet period.

Not sure if true, but that's what some players have been saying.

Also, there could be some news coming about about Kiffin soon that will look like sour grapes, but could land him in hot water. It involves insurance fraud due to a wreck he had leaving a bar recently. Doubt anything comes of it, but the truth is, there are alot of folks who have known about alot of shady activity going on with some of the staff, and folks were willing to look the other way to keep UT from being embarrassed. Now that his has gone down the way it has, some truths are going to be exposed that will likely amount to nothing, but could get serious.

Some of that is most certainly sour grapes, but there is a bunch of smoke right now about a coed in Atlanta and a wreck after leaving a place called Roosters (which I have seen no fewer than 6 people confirm.)

Whatever. Bring on Muschamp (or whoever...) Good luck in LA, Kiffins and YawYawYaw.

FYI, calling a recruit during a dead period is not a violation.

I don't follow the recruiting too closely, but I'll see what I can find out

EDIT: here's the most recent "article" (read: blog post) I could find:

There is bad news and good news on the Penn State football recruiting front.

Unfortunately, the bad news is definitive, while the good news is more speculative...

The bad news is 4-star defensive end Dominique Easley is no longer a Nittany Lion. (Technically he was never a Nittany Lion, but we begin to think in those terms when a player makes a verbal "commitment.")

Easley told ESPN, "Penn State's a good school but I wanted to get off the East Coast and do something different."

It's looks like Easley's finalists are Oregon and Miami. (Apparently Miami is no longer hard on the Atlantic.)

On the good side of the ledger, Joe Paterno is scheduled to make a rare in-home visit with 5-star running back Marcus Lattimore on January 28th.

South Carolina is thought to be the leader for Lattimore, with Oregon and Georgia also in the running.

The conventional wisdom has the Gamecocks in the lead, but Lattimore's father, Vernon Smith, told Nittany Network that it's wide-open: "Nobody is really in front of anybody. Everybody is still in the running pretty much."

The latest I've heard is that Muschamp will release a statement today that he's not interested in the job. The source also said he'll be replacing Mack sooner than some thought. Apparently Mack has given Boom more responsibility in recruiting this year and will give him more responsibility in practice for the upcoming season.

And yeah, there's a lot of buzz that Hicks will commit to Texas in the next day or so. I'm optimistic about Jeffcoat now that Florida has told him they don't have a scholarship for him. Unless something happens, it looks like it's down to Texas and OU with him visiting OU next week.

yeah, i meant South Carolina, not Mississippi State....not sure why I typed that. I've heard that he has already ruled out Georgia which I think leaves Penn State, Oregon, South Carolina, and Auburn.

Can someone explain to a non-SEC guy what the "Yaw yaw yaw" thing is about with Orgeron? Is it just because he sounds like a meathead?

it comes from this song. Stuart Scott even did the "yaw yaw" thing once on Sportscenter.

and if you've never heard Orgeron talk, here is his Hummer commercial

Some rumors that Hicks and Jeffcoat have been talking about committing to play together, and Jeffcoat did cancel his trip to UF too. That would be phenomenal to get them both. I'm just hoping for one.

VolCub,

Is Bray staying?

Yes. His entire family moved to Knoxville. Little brother is enrolled at Farragut.

Also, Mr. SEC SUUUCCKS. Isn't Hyams the primary UT writer there? Volquest is absolutely worth $10 a month. Volsbitch.com is free, incredibly irreverent, and a good site for entertainment and pretty solid info. You should look into one of those. Best info on Tennessee athletics on the web.

Considering nearly all of your inside scoops have been wrong, maybe you should find a new site.

Claims that Dodds reported he is staying. If Dodds is saying this then I will believe it to be true. If he stays this time then I think he has a pretty good idea on when Brown is going to retire and your right it would be sooner rather than later.

My guess is that Mack is staying through the Garrett Gilbert era (hopefully that's three more years). I think Texas is loaded to make a run at a MNC in 2012 and maybe 2011 too. Mack will then give Boom the keys to the defense he's created and two years of Connor Wood and Case McCoy (I think at least Wood will redshirt this year).

Florida told Jeffcoat they didn't have a scholarship for him and cancelled their in-home with him. It seems like it's down to Texas, OU and USC for him.

Pretty much the opposite. He canceled he official visit to UF, and doesn't appear to be going out there at all.

Directly from players... Orgeron stood in the meeting and told every early enrollee (who don't start classes until tomorrow) that they all have a scholarship offer at USC and that they should join Lane, Monte, and him there..

What a scumbag. That's just not acceptable.

I read that this morning on the espn bottomline, and thats a complete joke. There needs to be something against that.

The Sports Time Network is reporting that Leach has been offered the UT job and Troy Calhoun is the second choice should Leach turn us down.

I've never heard of this blog, so I have no clue on the accuracy.

Northwestern is reportedly getting closer to solidifying a game at Wrigley.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/northwestern-still-hopes-to-make-wrigley-field-game-a-reality.html

I'd love to beat Iowa there.

If I recall correctly, the athletic department originally wanted about 9 months to market the game, in part to help sell season tickets. That would require it to be finalized in the next month or two. If that happens, my gut tells me we'd host Illinois for the game. I don't think Iowa makes as much sense since they travel better to Ryan Field than Illinois fans. The Northwestern and Iowa game is more likely to be picked up by ESPN, as well, and wouldn't need the extra attention.

I get the sense they don't want to push it back to 2011, but Phillips probably will if he feels there won't be enough time. In that case, it's somewhat of a tough call between Michigan and Rice.
