Since sulley wants to talk Iowa/Illinois football in here...

I see Illinois had the 70th best class in the country according to Rivals. At least we know the Zooker can coach them up and get the most out of them when they make it on campus.

Not that anyone cares (nor do I blame anyone) but UK's class finished 49th according to Rivals, good for 11th in the SEC. Phillips' 1st class as HC and 49 is right around the avg. for UK in the last 5 years as far as rankings. Phillips paid his dues as far as waiting for Brooks to retire but he isn't the hire I would've liked as he'll cont. UK throughout the next 4 years in several 5-7, 6-6, and 7-5 seasons while it would've been worth the risk to bring in someone fresh and try something new.

Will Randy Sanders be the offensive coordinator for Joker or will he do it himself?

Posted
Sanders will be the OC but I'm sure the hand will be in the cookie jar.

Yeah, I would expect Joker to be heavily involved. That said, I hope Randy does well in Kentucky. I thought he did fairly well at UT and was hoping he'd get another opportunity at being an OC.

There's no question the man can develop QBs.

Continuing the offseason of weirdness (or misleading recruits, depending on what you believe...), on the same day that Urban Meyer begins his leave of absence, UF's defensive coordinator leaves to take the Buffalo Bills DC job, after only one month in Gainesville.

Hello Fellas.

#2 ranking by Rivals for the Trojans. Not bad, considering all the noise around the program lately.

Raisin - Congrats on UCLA'S #8 ranking. I am one Trojan fan looking forward to the rivalry getting competitive again.

Serious question: how many of you recruits back out if/when sanctions come down in a few weeks?

Zero. A couple of less scholarships and games on TV aren't going to matter.

There's not really much to argue in favor of Illinois here, but it ain't like that Rose Bowl team was carried by top 10 classes. The upperclassmen on that team were in the 50th and 51st ranked classes. Zook's never been higher than top 20(1 year, and has been pretty consistently in the 30s-40s

Wasn't it Mark Twain that said "The rumor of USC's death was greatly exaggerated."

Well what do you know, Lane can beat the Gators. Next time, it will be in the National Championship game.

If there's one lesson to be learned about this year's recruiting process, it has to be you can't count out Lane Kiffin.

Late developments Wednesday led to USC passing Florida for the nation's No. 1 recruiting class - for now.

Seantrel Henderson announced his commitment to the Trojans but may wait to sign.

At a Wednesday afternoon news conference, USC announced 18 signings. Later in the day, though, the Trojans added commitments from the nation's No. 1 fullback, four-star prospect Soma Vainuku of Eureka, Calif., and from four-star junior college defensive end Marquis Jackson of Santa Clarita (Calif.) College of the Canyons.

Neither has signed a letter-of-intent, but each is expected to sign in the next 24 hours; the point values from their commitments were enough to give USC the Rivals.com recruiting national championship.

Dude, the guy is from Minnesota. One look at the eight national championship trophies, all the Heisman trophy winners and the blonds on the beach on a nice 75 degree February day and a couple of games not on TV when he is a Freshman ain't going to matter much.

Marquis Jackson won't sign. He hasn't cleared NCAA academic requirements.

Kid does look pretty good in the video.

How about this kid...

(though I'm sure most here have seen it, it's a few years old and the view count's over 5 and a half million  )

if all USC gets is a slap on the wrist over this, the NCAA should be folded.

What do you define as a slap on the wrist? The way some of you guys talk, it's death penalty or the NCAA was in cahoots with USC.

if they actually bought Reggie Bush a house and/or car, losing 2 scholarships and a couple of TV games is not enough

They?

USC isn't under investigation for buying Reggie Bush a house and/or car. They're under investigation for not knowing an agent with no connection to the school put Bush's parents up in a fairly expensive house in San Diego and provided some other luxuries to his family. But since you're under that misapprehension I can see why you think they would deserve more than a few lost scholarships.

This isn't a situation where a USC booster gave Bush's parents a bunch of crap to get him to go to USC. It was a potential agent plying his parents with stuff so Bush would sign with him. You could argue that they had a very vested interest in getting Bush to leave school early (and Bush would've left early regardless because his stock really couldn't have gone any higher). I don't see how the program gains a competitive advantage that way.

All these years and I've never heard a single valid explanation as to why USC gained something from the Bush situation unless you really believe that knowing his parents lived in a relatively nice house in San Diego made him play better than he otherwise would have.

Excellent and accurate post.

The sustained excellent performance of the USC football program has generated a lot of envy. A lot of posters on this Board are Big Ten fans who have grown tired of getting their butts kicked by USC - hence all the whining and hoping for sanctions. If you can't beat them on the field, evidently you can still get some satisfaction out of sanctions.
