LB/Beast Steve Edmond and OL Sedrick Flowers verbal to Texas. Hegarty and Greenlea are coming to the next junior day on Saturday. If we can land two of Hegarty/Greenlea/Westerman and Malcolm Brown, we'll be in great shape.

Malcolm Brown alone would be huge, Hershall Sims has declined a junior day visit. Brown probably knows he could start as a true freshman too.

He would, but we're going to need some tackles pretty soon. I'd like to land Greenlea this weekend, which would allow us to wait on Westerman.

Malcolm Brown, by the way, looks like the next Adrian Peterson. Hope the situations don't turn out the same.

He was ranked as the 2nd best Texas HS RB behind Peterson of the last 25 years.

I could see why. Have you watched his highlights?

He is crazy good, and with the need for a true #1 RB Brown/Applewhite/Muschamp need to throw everything at him. I just don't know if he is the type that will commit early considering he could be a top 5 player overall next year. Luckily he would not be far from home, and recruiting the San Antonio area is a huge plus for Texas.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but with Brandon Williams (reportedly a Texas lean) committing to Baylor without visiting and Herschel Sims backing out of tomorrow's junior day, something is up. As you said, we need a No. 1 RB, but two of the big 4 seem to have no interest. I know we haven't had a great running attack the last few years, but we did have 7 years of Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson not too long ago.

I'm guessing (read: hoping) that the staff is doing everything they can to show Brown he's their guy (bringing in a FB, eschewing other RBs, running the pistol, etc.) like they did with Whaley.

It appears 5-Star Amhad Dixon might be going to Navarro JC as he is now showing up on their list of signed players. Dixon originally decommited from Texas, then decommited from Baylor, then decommited from Tennessee, was rejected in trying to go back to Texas then thought to have signed with Baylor on signing day. Good luck to whatever school has him.

ESPN rumor is that Sims is looking at USC. I want Sims as a backup option, but that might not happen. The last Texas rb to USC didn't work out to well for them.

Didn't see this anywhere.

Auburn redshirt quarterback Tyrik Rollison is planning to transfer to Sam Houston State at the end of the spring semester, his father, Michael Kelly, said Wednesday afternoon.

Not suprise. Auburn needed a special waiver just to get him enroll last year. They will say it's about the competition at QB, but this is purely based on his grades slipping.

the kid is supposed to be fairly talented, but he was suspended before the bowl game because of academics. The coaching staff evidently thought it was risky to depend on him maintaining his grades as they aggressively pursued juco transfer, Cam Newton. Once Auburn had Cam on campus, there was talk that Rollinson wanted to transfer. The Auburn coaches were initially able to convince him to stay from what I read. I'm not sure that I buy the whole grades thing as being the reason he left. Wouldn't he have to maintain the same type of grades to remain eligible at Sam Houston State? They are D1, not a junior college. While Newton's signing delayed Rollinson's position at starter by 2 years, the kid still could have had a very successful junior and senior year as the starter...No matter whether he is leaving because of academics or because of competition, neither is very respectable, imo.

Greenlea and Flowers committed as did Steve Edmond and Kendall Thompson.

Saw that. Greenlea was a huge get. If we can get Brown and one of Westerman/Hegarty and Reed/Rasco, I love this class.

I would think that we'd have a great chance at both tackles since they'd have a strong chance to start as freshmen.

The bowl game at Yankee Stadium is going to be called the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. It will be broadcast on ESPN, so if they're going to obsess over the Yankees, why not just call it the ESPN Wet Dream Bowl?

Cause they are not playing the Red Sox in football.

I just assumed the bowl committee was only going to pick teams in red or navy uniforms.

ESPN decided to put the Capital One Bowl (ABC), Outback Bowl (ESPN), and Gator Bowl (ESPN2) all on at the same time on New Years Day, meaning there will be 3 Big Ten bowl games competing against one another for viewers. An odd decision.

Not just 3 Big Ten bowls but 3 Big Ten vs SEC bowls.

I think it kind of sucks that the Capital One Bowl is going to be on network TV but none of the BCS bowls will be.

Oregon's Masoli charged with one count of burglary.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4983814

Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who helped lead the Ducks to the Pac-10 Conference title and a Rose Bowl berth last season, faces a burglary charge in connection with a theft at a campus fraternity house in late January.

The Lane Country district attorney's office says Masoli and former Oregon receiver Garrett Embry were each charged Wednesday with one count of burglary in the second degree.

Masoli and Embry were scheduled to be arraigned in Lane County Circuit Court on Friday afternoon.

The district attorney's office did not respond to a phone call seeking further comment on the case. In a statement Wednesday evening, Oregon coach Chip Kelly said he was "carefully considering the latest news" concerning Masoli and would make a decision about disciplinary action on Friday.

A fraternity member reported that Masoli and Embry stole two computers and a guitar from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house on Jan. 25.

CB Quandre Diggs ---> Texas

He's not a top national prospect (No. 24 in Texas), but Duane Akina knows his DBs.

Also the younger brother of Quinten Jammer. I was hoping to see you posted something on Malcolm Brown.

That's right. I forgot about that. Man, Texas has had some good DBs in the last 10 years...

I have a feeling that Brown and Westerman won't commit until 2011. Each is the top recruit at his position in the country, iirc.

I wonder where they plan on playing him. I like this though.

"He just said that's where they wanted me, at Texas, and they were recruiting me as an athlete," Diggs said. "At first, everybody thought I was being recruited as DB. "When I get on campus, the coaches will find out where they're play me."

The 5-10, 188-pound Diggs was holding more than 20 scholarship offers, including formal invitations from programs like Alabama, Arkansas, Cal, LSU, OU, Rice, Stanford, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Texas A&M. When Texas came calling, it was an easy call for Diggs.

"When I call the other coaches, I'll let them know I'm committed to Texas. It's 100 percent. I'm committed. I'm not going to change. No way, no how."

Story going around is that Masoli cleaned out his locker and will be kicked off the Oregon team.

LaMichael James pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and will get 10 days in jail and 2 years probation.

I think we'll see that the Oregon QBs are pretty plug and play in that system--kinda like Texas Tech under Leach in that regard. Dixon was a very good talent and while the numbers were similar, I don't think Masoli was on the same level. I wouldn't be surprised if they put some unknown in there and they still cranked out 40 points a game.

I agree to an extent though Oregon definitely went through a rough spell during the time between Dixon's injury and Masoli's emergence.

Losing Masoli does take them from being the crop of the Pac-10, imo. Brings them down to the level of Oregon State, USC, etc.

ESPN.com[/url]"]Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was suspended Friday for the upcoming season by coach Chip Kelly after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary in the theft of a pair of laptops and a guitar from a campus fraternity.

Masoli, who had been mentioned as a potential Heisman candidate, will remain on scholarship with the Ducks.

"He does have a redshirt season available to him if he chooses to do that," Kelly said.

..........

Both were sentenced to 12 months of probation and 140 hours of community service. Together they must also pay $5,000 restitution.

The hammer sure came down...
