boy the big ten and sec must be pretty irate about their tv deals if the big xii is getting almost the same amount of dollars per team.

Big 10 averages around $22M per team in TV revenues, so they're still much better off.

just what we need, another texas school

Do you have any ideas for who to add?

Honestly, there aren't any schools that get me even a little excited outside of BYU, maybe Utah.

Arkansas would be awesome but impossible.

TCU would further Texify the conference. That's one more team to vote however Texas does in any future negotiations, and it adds precisely ZERO tv sets. And it doesn't add anything other than a football team that's good right now, from a sports perspective. ANd don't give me any BS about baseball, because if I can't talk about KU hoops in this equation, then we sure as hell don't get to talk about College baseball or other college sports nobody cares about.

Boise St--pass. Commuter school with a football team that probably doesnt look nearly as good after playing real teams week in and week out.

AFA--pass. i actually like AFA, but nobody cares about them.

CSU--that's like a less attractive CU.

NMU, NMSU: nice markets, no actual sports value.

UNLV: ditto

I really don't get this from Fox's perspective. Why invest that much money into a conference that really only has two big markets - Texas and Oklahoma? If the reports are true, this is a great deal for the Big XII teams, but is very likely to lose a lot of money for Fox.

How is the deck stacked in ND's favor? What on earth are you talking about? ND has to be voted on, in part, by coaches, none of whom have any incentive to see ND's stock rise (counter those coaches that frequently vote their own conference teams 10 or more slots higher than other coaches).

The trend since when has been decisively negative? Since the early 90s when Lou left? Or since the 2000s? b/c the Weis era was significantly better than either the Davie or the Willingham era and I've yet to find an ND fan that hasn't been excited by the things Kelly's done (both before he got to ND and in the few months since).

I have no idea how you can spin a BCS loss into a worse end to a season than winning the Emerald Bowl.

I don't know why you keep bringing up the Emerald Bowl as if I mentioned it or it has any relevance here or would even submit that it's better than losing in a BCS game.

The Weis era was not significantly better than his predecessors. That is a total fiction. Worse overall record than either Davie OR Willingham, 1 bowl win over Hawaii, coached probably the worst team in school history, ended the Navy win streak, and the biggest "win" under his tenure was a loss.

At least Davie and Willingham had the temerity to beat a ranked opponent here and there.

Anyway, I would argue that ND getting blown out in BCS games (hell, bowl games in general) is a part of why they're being pursued here. ND's fall from the absolute top was probably inevitable but nothing's been done to slow the decline. Hiring Kelly was a good first start. They've gone from bulletproof to looking seriously at joining a conference. If they'd been the ND of old, or something even approaching it, they'd be calling their own shots.

Do you think if you just continue making things up, it will come true? I'm trying to find some nugget of truth in your blabbering on. Must be a trick you learned from Poodle. Next thing we know, you'll sneak out of town just before [expletive] hits the fan.

Nebraska athletic officials are expecting to double their TV revenue from $10 million to about $20 million a year in the Big Ten. Besides receiving TV money from the broadcast and cable networks, each conference school reportedly receives a $6.5 million annual payout from the Big Ten Network.

Told that even though the contract is initially for 10 teams and there are no immediate plans for expansion, when it does happen it could include any of the following schools: Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, BYU and Air Force. The thought amongst the Big 12 schools is that if they do expand, the mormons and the military bring the most in terms of fans across the nation and would be the most beneficial.

It would have been funny if A&M would've said "go to hell" after all of this and still left for the SEC.

Overall I'm kind of glad though. I warmed to the idea of 4 super-leagues a little bit but hated it early on. I like the Big Ten staying at 12 at least for the near term. I just have no idea how the Big 12 got this tv contract. Outside of UT, OU and your father's A&M and what do you have? Half the league is ISU, KU, KSU, Baylor and TTU. They lost their 3rd most prominent program, a huge metro area and also have two fewer teams equaling one less conference game every week.

Unless ESPN was really, really desperate to keep Fox from landing the super Pac-16, I don't see the logic.

What part of saying that Weis won one bowl game against Hawaii, had a worse record than Davie and Willingham, ended the win streak against Navy, and coached the worst team in Notre Dame history constitutes making things up?

They also lost a championship game as well. It really doesn't make any sense at all from Fox's perspective.

Source confirms that Texas asked to be able to keep own local TV and wanted "extra sweetner" financially from revenue sharing at 11th hour.

air force would be a complete disaster. they have rigorous academic standards and instead of leaving for the nfl after finishing college, you leave for afghanistan. schools like navy and air force can be competitive in second tier conferences but would get absolutely killed in the big xii or any bcs conference.

i'm reading the terms of the tv contract are locked and would not be open for renegotiation if we added teams. So i dont think there will be a rush to do that.

PBC is saying that the Big Ten believes that neither Texas nor A&M are out of play yet and that this isn't over.

It's all becoming silly at this point. Texas basically owns the Big 12. They might as well just stay where they are and call it a day.

have fun with nebraska fans, iowa. boy theyre a real treat to have around, especially when you beat them in football.

They troll our football boards at times and we haven't played them in 12 years.

penn state beat nebraska 40-7, and i thought their fans were wonderful. they seemed really good-natured and friendly, and after the ass-whipping they said they hoped we'd come out to lincoln for the rematch in 2003.
