I'm still pissed about this. I want all of A&M's leadership replaced. They are spineless, weak, and short sighted.

I wonder how long the Mack-10 will survive? Maybe 5 years?

I know for a fact that A LOT of Aggie fans are sick to their stomach at their fave schools dependence of Texas. The ones I know were screaming to go to the SEC, but apparently the TAM leadership didn't listen what the fans wanted, but what their pockets wants.

As for the Big 1+11-2 Conference, 5 years is highly unlikely. I'd give them half that time, before other schools in the conference have buyer's remorse and jump ship.

like who?

OU, aTm, and UT have no reason. They're making money hand over fist, and every other school is willing to smile and take it.

Outside of Mizzou, no one else has any options to go. We've seen pretty clearly that no one is knocking down any doors to grab KSU, ISU, KU, or Baylor.

Tech and Okie Lite are only worth a crap if they tag along w their big brothers.

The conference will be fine as long as the big 3 are happy with their dough.

But how greedy are the Big 3 going to get? How much do the little brothers know their role? With an unequal payout system already in place, I have a hard time seeing Texas not heading back to renegotiate their slice a few more times before somebody (Mizzou, or one of OU or A&M) has enough.

what's very interesting is that, per Dan Beebe, there is not TV deal in place.

From a recap of his teleconference on the KU rivals site:

-There is no deal yet for TV. Extremely strong info and verification that will put the Big 12 members on par with everyone else.

-The Big 12 is proud partners of ESPN/ABC and Beebe said they will consider any of the competitors. Has had talks with FOX through his dealings with the BCS. Other TV companies have also shown interest.

yikes

Redflash, we can only handle so many inane abbreviations, so I'm going to ask that you choose between making them longer (Big 1+11-2) or shorter (CNS). Choose wisely.

like who?

The fine folks over at AggieYell.com, who I was made aware by Aggies fans who posted on a Bama website. Several people made it clear TAM fans wanted to do their own thing, and not kiss UTX butt.

OU, aTm, and UT have no reason. They're making money hand over fist, and every other school is willing to smile and take it.

They will make money as long as there is money to be made. But that conference is ultimately going to lose money, because of the lack of great teams in that conference. Add in the fact that there is no CCG game, and that conference won't exactly be swimming in money. In other words Big XII has become a glorified mid major conference.

The conference will be fine as long as the big 3 are happy with their dough.

I said it before and I will say it again, the Big XII chose the slow and painful death, over the quick and painless. Big XII will die, because they have the conference killer in the conference, they just put off their death for a few more years.

SI's Stewart Mandel's tweets on the Beebe teleconference

That call gave me no reason to believe there's anything stopping that league from crumbling again a year from now.

Nebraska, Colorado were very wise to get out when they could. They'll find it refreshing to have a voice.

Unbelievable. The five "leftovers" (KU, KSU, ISU, BU, Mizzou) agreed to sign over their share of CU/NU's buyout money to UT/OU/A&M.

"Our analysts have given us strong indication ... that we're in very good position to get high amount of revenue" from existing TV partners.

Beebe: "We don't have a future television deal that's been reached at this time." Just confidence based on research/conversations.

Darren Rovell"]Originally speculated as a $10 million penalty, it looks like the Big XII thinks they are entitled to much more. Beebe says that the lawyers have led him to believe that they can withhold 80 percent of the money that Colorado and Nebraska would make in the next two years.

That includes one year in the Big XII, where the two teams combined will earn at least $14 million. And one year in the Pac-10 and the Big Ten, where the money made will depend on exactly how much of a first year share the teams will be getting.

I've seen a couple of references to there not being a penalty in this new agreement going forward, but I haven't seen it from a semi-reliable source.

sportsbusinessdaily.com"]The Big 12 was able to stay intact thanks to the promise of an extended media deal from FSN and assurances from ESPN that it would not demand a lower rights fee with two fewer teams. No FSN deal has been signed, and nothing is expected for several weeks at the earliest. But sources say FSN has told Big 12 officials that it would increase its annual payout to as much as $130-$140M per year. It currently pays $19.5M per year for the cable TV rights, a deal that ends following the '11-12 season. As part of its proposed deal, FSN has asked to take control of the conference's third-tier rights that are currently controlled by rights holders IMG, ISP and Learfield, sources said. These rights include radio, local media, third-tier TV rights, corporate sponsorships, and in-stadium and arena signage. It is not known when these rights will be available. Another important component to the Big 12's decision involves ESPN. Big 12 schools were concerned that ESPN would demand a lower license fee, since the conference lost two of its marquee schools -- Colorado and Nebraska. The Big 12 approached ESPN and received assurances that the network would not seek a rebate from its current $60M per year deal that runs through '15-16 (John Ourand, THE DAILY).

The bolded is pretty significant.

What does that mean, Jon?

Because if it means what I think it means, I think that would kill KU. We actually were the 3rd or 4th highest revenue producing school in the Big 12 because we make a killing off our basketball program through stuff like that.

Honestly, I have no idea, but if I was in your position, I'd be a little scared. It seems like the remaining schools in the conference are just signing everything over to Texas and FSN for a fixedyment with limited potential for any growth over the next 20 years (not that the conference will survive for that long). A successful television network in Kansas might work, but I don't know what rights FSN would have over that. Nor do I know what the odds are of a Kansas network in the state of Kansas bringing in much money.

Additionally, there is no signed agreement that will keep the conference together. Instead, Beebe is taking them all at their word that they will remain true to the conference.

So...basically Texas could decide next week to leave after all?

well, right now KU has given the local broadcast rights to hoops games to JTV (Jayhawk TV). It's part of ESPN plus. I believe we make a lot of money off it.

I think it will take time for each school to really understand the impact of the FSN proposal (and any others out there). They have to understand it beyond the upfront figure.

For the schools that had very little hope(KSU, ISU, BU), it makes a ton of sense to make that concession. For a school like KU or Mizzou, they just took the easy way out because of fear of the unknown.

I think KU was really resistant to fighting to break away from KSU. Which was dumb. I have to feel like MU will still jump at the first chance to leave. If I were Alden, I'd be sending fruit baskets to the Big 10 and SEC every week.

That's the feeling I get too. If the Big Ten offered Mizzou next week, we'd be gone, I'm sure of it.

With each new leak about the new Big 12, Beebe comes off a bigger buffoon. This is awesome.

I don't understand how anyone agreed to this. Truly baffling.

You can come up with some sort of possible explanation for the most (KU being saddled to KSU, A&M being saddled to the other Texas schools, BU, ISU, OSU, KSU, and TT having no redeemable qualities, Texas and Oklahoma keeping the status quo or better, but what the hell is Mizzou doing? Or are they still actively looking for anyone to take them, and figure it's better to have this deal than to let the conference collapse and force their hand to find a new home.

Well 7 of them had no options if Texas wanted to stay. This was the best they could do if they didn't want to risk going to the MWC or CUSA. Texas and OU agreed to it because they have an even bigger advantage financially and basically have one game in October to get to the BCS. No championship game also makes it more likely to get 2 BCS teams. Plus they can take off in a year if they want.

A&M is the only one I'm not sure about if they had the offer from the SEC.

That's exactly it. It's better to go along with it now and deal with the consequences later if a better offer comes up than it is to be left behind now.

I've seen multiple sources say that we had an SEC offer if we wanted to take it.
