If we ended up acquiring Jose Guillen I'm pretty sure I'd become a White Sox fan.

How is Guillen that much different than Burrell?

Pat Burrell has been a damn good hitter for most of his career with a couple bad seasons, Guillen has been a horrible hitter most of his career witha couple good seasons.

And what either of them are any more is a platoon power outfielder who are aging quickly. Burrell has a better hitting pedigree, but Guillen is not a comically bad defender. In a perfect world I prefer Burrell, but if it means the difference in adding someone like Cruz as well as Guillen, I take that over Burrell every time.

Burrell has shown he has the ability to be a good hitter, whereas Guillen has done nothing but be an out-machine.

Guillen is a little older and apparently aging faster, and not a good defender either. He's coming off 3 of 4 really weak seasons, whereas Burrell has been a beast in 3 of 4 seasons. Aside from a bad 2009, there really isn't much of a comparison.

A quick look at CHONE and James' projections seems to think that there's not a ton of difference between them going forward when you include defense. Even without defense, it's not a wide enough gulf to make Burrell the more attractive player if you can get another valuable part like Cruz.

Milton Bradley Rumors: Monday

By Tim Dierkes [December 7 at 11:46am CST]

11:46am: ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine says the Cubs and Royals met last night to discuss Bradley-Gil Meche scenarios. The money matches up pretty well here, as both players are signed through 2011. And don't forget the Cubs tried to sign Meche as part of the 2006-07 offseason spending spree.

from mlbtraderumors.com

I highly doubt they'd do Bradley for Meche straight up but I'd sure have no problem throwing in Marshall or similar

I wonder if this would still be a three-way trade with the Mets involved.

Bradley and a NYM prospect to KC, Meche to NYM, Castillo to Cubs.

Posted
For Meche to happen, it wouldn't surprise me if we STILL had to send money over AND a prospect or two as well. (one of our plethora of young relievers, Fuld- type guys). At any rate, this has been by far the most intriguing option brought up to this point anyway.
Posted
So Meche would be the newer version of Marquis, leaving the Cubs a miraculous lightning in the bottle acquisition of Edmonds and midseason Rich Harden trade away from repeating 2008, I guess?

Meche's regression and shoulder trouble worry me, plus the KC Star said today they'd have to be "overwhelmed" to deal him. If we're going the high priced starter route, I'd much rather have Millwood in return for Bradley.

You asked what's so different between the two, and I pointed it out. Juan Cruz has nothing to do with the difference between Guillen, a bad hitter most of his career coming off a bad year, and Burrell, a very good hitter most of his career coming off a bad year.

Definitely couldn't complain about that.

The royals are going to ask for more than just bradley, they'll probably ask for a pitcher or two. How would you guys feel if they asked for Marshall on top of bradley.

I'd be fine to give up Marshall and maybe a lower level prospect. It would be nice if Hendry could get Alberto Callaspo involved dude raked last year for a MI .300/.356/.457 .813 OPS. I know he has had issues both defensively and character wise but I'd be willing to take the risk. If we could get Meche and Callaspo I'd be willing to give Marshall and Flaherty or Logan Watkins along with Bradley to complete the deal. I could see Hendry taking back Farnsworth or Cruz though because he has been rumored to be looking for a "veteran" bullpen arm and both have bigger contracts for being MR on a team with a payroll like the Royals.

Actually this trade makes a lot of sense. The Mets are looking for a pitcher but i'd imagine on top of the mets prospect and braldey going to KC, the cubs would have to include maybe marshall in the deal. Whats annoying about all of this is that how much different would all of this be, if Jim had just signed Abreu, Ibanez or Dunn. Hopefully he redeems himself this offseason.

Depends on how much money changes hands. Meche's shoulder injury makes me leery.

To be honest, i can care less if they trade Bradley. I only want them to trade Bradley because Hendry seems to keep putting it out there that they won't do anything else until they trade him. I have a feeling that Bradley will have a good season next year.

Posted

Only a few more small market teams for Hendry to try and pillage. What we do know is that these teams will not be paying much of Bradley's contract regardless of what deal ends up actually happening.

The fact the Mets have no interest in Burrell tells me Hendry is just throwing crap against the wall. The desperation is oozing out of his pores.

Plus the Royals were just stupid with him this year. He threw a lot of pitches this year in a decent amount of games it seems.

Royals get

Bradley

Fontenot

Marshall

Stevens

Cubs

Meche

Callaspo

Farnsworth or Cruz

The way that the Royals have been trying to add really young arms, I would think they would want Jay Jackson or Chris Carpenter.

Swap out Fontenot with either Lake, Flaherty or Watkins (whoever the Royals like most) and add another arm (Caridad, Coleman, mid level guy) and that seems like a reasonable deal

I know the Braves are looking to add a bat and trade either Lowe or Vazquez to get one. Any chance the Braves and Bobby Cox think they can handle Milton? I know it would require the Cubs to throw more than just Bradley Braves way.

With Lowe's contract, I'm not so sure the Braves would need anything else from us honestly. I'm just not thinking the Braves would want anything to do with Milton though.

I think Bobby Cox already said he doesn't want to deal with Bradley. I would say the Dodgers might be an option with Pierre, maybe a three way deal somehow that lands the Dodgers a pitcher and the cubs something of use. Not sure if they'd want Pierre.

Bruce Levine

As the winter meetings go into their second day, there still seems to be a mentality among GMs to wait and see as far as the trade market goes. Things might loosen up today. For Cubs fans, the possibility of moving Milton Bradley might become a reality within the next 24 hours. Let's go.

"Might" being the operative word in that sentence. I'm not holding my breath.

Haven't we been seeing time-frames of 24-72 hours til the deal is done(talking in general) since the World Series?

This all reminds me of the year the Cubs HAD to trade Sosa.
