The only problem with Bradley being plan B for some teams is that all other Cub moves are based on dumping Bradley first. Also, you know the Boras clients aren't going to get signed too early. While I want Hendry to get the best deal he can for Bradley, I'm not sure anybody wants this to drag out for 3 more months.

I don't think anything is being held up because of Bradley. Hendry will be paying for Bradley whether he is a Cub or a Devil Ray or a Ranger. I wouldn't expect either of those cash strapped teams to pay anymore than 1 or 2m of his 2010 contract, and probably not much more of his 2011 contract.

And that's why I think the best scenario is to just keep him. I'm not happy Bradley was a butthead. And I also don't think that Hendry suspending him was the worst thing that could happen to him. Bradley made his wrong and Hendry tried to make it right. That punishment is over now. Cops don't go back to you 6 months later and say "rememeber that speeding ticket I gave you?, well you weren't wearing your seatbelt that day and you had a headlight out and I'm also citing you for a whole host of other reasons." By trading him, the Cubs are making the statement that they made a huge mistake in signing him. A better statement is for the two sides to sit down and work out their differences or at least apologize for allowing this to blow up much bigger than it should have.

The punishment of suspending him for the rest of the season fits the crime. Punishing the rest of the team for the next two years by trading one of your more productive players for a lesser player is just stupid.

. You look at the stats and ignore the attitude. It's like looking at a swimsuit model and ignoring that she's psycho.

Can I sig this?

We can agree that the player we get for Bradley won't be as good as Bradley, but I think the discussion about keeping Bradley is moot. Whether it improves the team or not, Hendry can't make an impression on Ricketts by bringing back the exact same team. Also, Hendry knows Bradley having another meltdown in Chicago is a definite possibility (more like a probability). Hendry needs to trade Bradley to see how much money will be left before making other deals. I'm not a Bradley fan, but if your gloom-and-doom prediction (Hendry paying all but $1-2 million for each year) is right, I'll be the first to say we need to keep him. I don't think Ricketts would allow Hendry to pay 90% of Bradley's contract.

Jake Fox's opinion of Bradley.....

"He was always really good to me," Fox said of Bradley. "He was a great guy to me. He's got a wonderful family, and he kind of took me under his wing. He was a really good teammate. A lot of the fans didn't like him, and I can understand that. Maybe he put on a different persona or something. But he's always really good to me."

But wait, hes a clubhouse cancer, and all his teammates hated him I thought?.................

I could be wrong, but doesn't Fox have a bit of a repuation for having a bad attitude as well? Or uncoachable, at least?

No.

I actually remember hearing a rumor that he had an attitude and was diffiult to coach, but I think it was debunked.

Maybe difficult to coach in the sense that he couldn't figure out how to field any position all that well. That's about it.

In the minors there were rumors that Fox didn't take very well to coaching, but it appears he's gotten past that with his offensive resurgence. Plus that's not really relevant to clubhouse relationships and the like.

Agreed. There were rumors that he wouldn't change his swing even when coaches asked him to. And then the rumors escalated when he was summarily yanked from a game and quickly taken off the major league team in August 07 (which was after he went into Lou's office and asked why he wasn't playing in Spring training 07 which Lou initially liked).

But he's also been seen as a great guy in his personality and in the last couple of years he's been willing to do just about anything to make sure he makes it to the major leagues. There's been nothing to indicate that Fox is anything but a great clubhouse guy which is what is relevant in this situation.

Maybe he got along with Fox. Then again it might not look good for a fringe player to badmouth a team mate the day after being traded.

Im pretty sure the majority of Bradley's ex-teammates normally have very good things to say of him as a teammate. I think he is generally very well liked in the clubhouse.

I'm think you generally are wrong. What did you expect Fox to say? There is a reason that every organization that Bradley has played for hasn't made any great attempt to keep him.

A reason which, until maybe the Cubs, didn't seem to be clubhouse issues with his fellow players.

Its not a rumor; it is a fact that Fox had coachability problems in the minors. There was even article about it on the cubs website toward the end of the year; talking about how he had overcome these problems.

Yet two of those teams (Texas and San Diego) have expressed interest in having him back.

Both of them are non-contenders, broke, and expecting Hendry to give him away and pay his salary.

Yep. And guess where Bradley will end up playing? Tampa, Texas or San Diego. Book it.

Speaking of Texas, I would still love to see a deal where we get Millwood. I see he's owed $12 million next year and $15 million signing bonus spread over 2011-2015.

How about a deal like:

Texas gets Bradley + Marshall/Gorz + Atkins/Berg/Stevens

Cubs get Millwood + $2 million (2010) + $1.5 million per year (2011-2015) - basically splitting the salary and signing bonus.

Getting a bad contract, yet somewhat useful production, like Millwood back would be way better than I would have expected. I'm predicting it to be more like the Marquis trade, though, but with Hendry paying even more of Bradley's salary.

I mean, I can understand that Hendry can't hide the fact he has interest in Cameron, but that doesn't help his leverage with Bradley at all, and it actually hurts it. It further proves Hendry wants Bradley gone at all cost. And with Fukudome and Soriano already locking up two of the outfield spots, that leaves Bradley as the odd man out. As if teams needed anymore evidence, however.

Hendry wants to dump Bradley is the world's worst kept secret. Another good point about trying for Millwood is that Millwood or Lily could be a valuable trade chip at the deadline if some of our young pitching produces in the first half.

Exactly. I'm having trouble thinking of any teammate situations. I guess he has had some issues with Lou, but I tend to give Bradley the benifit of the doubt there. Now if you want to talk about Bradleys relationship with fans and media, I have a "few" examples coming to mind.

What does that have to do with anything?

The point is Bradley's teammates don't have this visceral hatred that Cubs fans do. Maybe the players are smarter than the average fan.

At least one example of a teammate situation was the incident between Bradley and Reed Johnson.
