Re: Week 6 - Chicago Bears at Atlanta Falcons, 7:20 PM NBC

If hub would have given a point or two, it would have at least qualified as an argument. One of my biggest problems with him is that it appears obvious he feels he's above even having to justify his point of view. He's hub arkush. Giving valid reasons is for all you peons who are beneath him.

Anyway...

I sort of liked the 12:00 start time 2 weeks ago. Waiting all day for bears football kind of sucks.

Try getting up at 4 AM.

It pisses me off, to tell you the truth, when people talk about Greg Olsen's production. We've been hearing about it the last few weeks. There was an article in a newspaper Thursday about it. Greg's start might not be as good as people would like, but we have a whole season to go. He might hit a string of four or five games where he might average six or seven catches a game. And suddenly, he's on pace for 70 catches.

It's like people are so quick to jump on something when it's not necessary. Yeah, he's not having the breakout plays right now, but I'm sure he's going to have them. Right now, we haven't needed them. We're winning games by doing what we're doing with the receivers. Everybody was talking about how the receivers wouldn't be productive. They're being more productive than anybody gave them credit for. So you know what that does? That takes away from other people. And good for the receivers for making plays that we can rely on them, and we don't have to try and force-feed the ball to anybody. I look at it as a good thing.

OK, say Greg doesn't make the Pro Bowl. That doesn't mean that he's not a Pro Bowl-caliber-type tight end. Everybody knows what kind of athletic ability he has and what he can do. He can only do what the offense allows him to do. And right now, it hasn't called for him to catch seven, eight passes a game. It called for him to catch 10 passes in four games and the team be 3-1.

That explanation ignores his drops.

Just for fun, every ESPN.com and CBSsports.com person picks the Falcons to beat the Bears. Peter King is the only one I think I've seen in the media to pick the Bears.

Even he waffled on it.

Greenberg picked the Bears. But.....he's Greenberg.

Pisa completely tore his PCL in Green Bay. Can you repair it that quickly or is he just playing without it for now cause he is playing Sunday.

He's playing without it.

Apparently, there are players playing without ACL's out there. Roberto Garza is one of them. I think Hines Ward is another.

He was quoted saying something about being Samoan with very large legs that allow his muscles to do the work. I think Chris Chelios has played without some knee ligaments for years.

Chelios is actually a zombie Defenseman. He's been playing without being alive for at least a decade.

Of course. I kind of like seeing Dez come to Greg's defense, though.

He's still not having a real good early season. Nothing Dez said changes that.

Bears trade an undisclosed 2010 pick for DE Gaines Adams. #4 overall pick in 2007. Had 12.5 sacks his first two years and so far has 1 this year.

Interesting to say the least. Wonder what the pick will end up being.

His contract was a 6 year deal worth $46million. I'll see if I can track down the exact breakdown.

Apparently it was a second round pick

If Marinelli can get first round talent out of him (let alone #4 overall type talent) then it is worth the second rounder.

Its a bit of a risk. Allows us to let Ogunleye go at the end of this season I suppose. Brown, Adams, Anderson.

Earn your paycheck Marinelli!

Very interesting move. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I don't like giving up more draft picks in a draft that we don't have a 1st round pick in. But if anything has been clear about Angelo's drafting habits, its that he's much more comfortable with a bunch of "Day 2" picks and not as strong with his early round picks.

If nothing else, I think this move shows the Bears intention of winning this year. Going into this season, I was looking forward to at least 3 years with Cutler and didn't have huge hopes for a hugely successful year in '09. But Angelo is making this year a priority moving forward.

His own coached called him a potential bust. I'm not saying it's true, but it's pretty clear he has been a big disappointment in Tampa.

I don't know, I'm scratching my head a little on this one. I understand the need to get younger, but that's a large contract and we needed that 2nd rounder.

If Cutler continues to play well like he has and Gaines plays to the ability he shown in his first two seasons then Cutler and Adams will be better players then anybody the Bears could have drafted in the 1st and 2nd rd picks. Not to mention both players are still on rookie contracts (tho that will be changing very soon, imo), so it's not as if the Bears are overpaying for either guy. So this is definately a good deal for the Bears, but the pressure is on Rod to get Gaines to play to his ability, which I have no doubt he will.

Brown and Ogunleye had both been playing well, so I'm not sure I understand this. We were a bit thin at DE (Anderson was our only other DE), but a second rounder seems like a bit much. I could see if one of Brown or Ogunleye were hurt, or if we were lacking pressure to this point, but neither are true. I would have rather seen us go out and acquire a big, possession WR. Maybe we still can. Put me in the group that wouldn't mind trading for T.O. Edited by CubsBearsMagic

Regardless of the impact for next year, Wale, Brown and Anderson needed an extra body to keep fresh legs rushing for 4 quarters.

If Cutler is going to be putting up a lot of points, it's probably safe to assume teams will be airing it out a bit more, especially late in the game. Fresh legs can be very valuable, and that's ignoring the potential for injury to the very quickly aging Brown and Ogunleye.

Nothing better in the middle of the 3rd quarter to put a fresh legged, big, strong 1st team caliber DE on a quickly tiring OL just when he thinks he's getting the upper hand on Brown or Ogunleye.

The Bears almost always screw up their top picks, so trading them for someone who is already or has the capability to be an impact player isn't that much of a gamble, IMO.

Next year, I believe we will probably be saying that it was worth trading 2 #1 draft picks for the production of Jay Cutler.
