Re: Week 6 - Chicago Bears at Atlanta Falcons, 7:20 PM NBC

it's funny, whenever the bears play a team from a city with no diginity, lawrence holmes interviews some needle-dick beat reporter from said city and they always brag and brag and brag about how good their team is and about how few weaknesses they have. the guy from atlanta went so far as to dispute holmes' contention that matt ryan wasn't quite in peyton manning's league, yet.

same exact thing went on when we played the saints in the nfccg

yep, i remember that interview, too.

Much as I might complain when Chicago reporters are too critical, it sucks even worse when the media are total homers and refuse to acknowledge any weaknesses.

I really like the Bears offense's newly found speed in this game vs. the Falcons. Devin Hester's last 4 games on turf surfaces he has gone for 19 catches and 277 yards, with 2 TDs. He also has 3 return TDs in 7 games on turf. Manning has also had some strong games returning the ball indoors. Add Bennett (who is faster than any non-Hester WR from last year), Knox, and Olsen; and I think the Bears speed offensively will be too much for the Falcons to handle.

As for the Bears on defense, I think they have to get pressure from the front 4 on Ryan. Ryan has killed teams that try to blitz him. I see no reason NOT to play Adams today. He has experience in a similar system in Tampa. He has played the Falcons twice a year each year he's been in the league, and had 2 sacks against them last year. I think NE showed the formula to stop the Falcons offense. You have to use a LB and a safety to bracket Gonzalez, and hopefully take him out of the game. They you let Tillman follow Roddy White around the field all day. Tillman doesn't typically get beat deep (Berrian's 99 yarder aside), so I think the Bears will let him get the short stuff all day toward the sidelines. They also need to help the pass rush efforts out by stopping Turner and making the Falcons one-dimensional.

I think it can be done.

I don't disagree with your points on the Bears defense, but Atlanta has smaller cornerbacks and we have more trouble with big wide receivers than fast wide receivers.

is tommie harris finished at 26? people say he hasn't been the same since he got hurt on 2006, but his numbers have been pretty much the same leading up to this year. he's down this season, but the line seems to be playing better so he may be getting more attention, too.

We paid him lots of cash, and it seems clear he won't be able to live up to the expectations, which were very high. That doesn't mean he can't play at all, but not at that level.

Why would you hate primetime games?

Because Im an impatient person? I like waking up, hungover, and turning the tv on to the Bears game. Especially when its a big game like this

I definitely hate primetime games becauseyou have to wait all day and it makes me like my team is less connected to the rest of the league (I know that probably sounds weird).

On the flip side, it is awesome to have something to look forward to at the very end of your weekend, or during a long Monday.

Why would you hate primetime games?

Lots of good reasons:

waiting all day for the game

having other things I traditionally do that need to be moved

knowing that playing more games at odd times can be disruptive

not necessarily wanting the national focus on too many weeks

losing sleep because the game usually ends later than when I turn in

Gaines Adams Trade Lesson

Let's go back to the 2007 NFL Draft. Tampa had drafted Cadillac Williams two years prior, but he couldn't stay healthy in Tampa. They spent top-five money on Williams, so the smart thing to do would be to invest No. 4 overall money in another injury-prone running back in college, right?

Wrong. Gaines Adams was a monster pass rusher at Clemson. He truly does have all the tools and talent to dominate.

The problem is he isn't very physically tough. He didn't put up a fight this year in Tampa, Raheem Morris called him out, and he didn't respond. General manager Mark Dominik gave up, and to an extent, I don't blame him.

Would I have traded Gaines? Not for just a second. I'm going to want a little more value than that. Give me a second- and a fourth-rounder and the deal is done. Gaines didn't show much this season.

What happened to that beast of a pass rusher?

Top-10 money is what happened. It isn't a coincidence that Adams, Levi Brown, Jamaal Anderson and Amobi Okoye didn't pan out.

These guys are being paid too much money. Combine Adams' lack of mental toughness with an inadequate will to dominate on the field because you are financially set up for life, and you might get an underproductive player.

Don't believe me? How did a high-effort player with an elite work ethic in Chris Long get demoted to second string this season? Money.

It is human nature to not work as hard when you "make it." Many great musical artists' best album is their album they made right before they hit mainstream. Then they simply lose their will and their creativity.

This was a pretty fair trade, and you have to remember Detroit was very serious about drafting Adams at No. 2 overall in 2007. This is what Monte Kiffin said, and he is great friends with Rod Marinelli.

Who is Adams' new line coach? Marinelli, and I wouldn't be shocked if he worked his magic and Chicago turned this fair trade into a blockbuster.

No matter what Tampa could do, they just couldn't get Adams to play hard, and I don't think they did anything wrong in their development of Adams.

Sometimes, the responsibility needs to be allocated to players, and not just the decision makers. All coaches can do is coach.

At some point, players need to make plays, and Gaines Adams didn't make enough of them in Tampa.

I think Adams will be just fine as a Bear, and this "bust" reputation hes gotten is really overblown.

Agreed. I hope he can see the field at some point this year.

You don't make a midseason trade giving up a 2nd rounder for a guy who won't even get on the field this season.
