2009 Postseason

It's really a bum that Chicago won't have any presence in the postseason this year. Despite that, I am really looking forward to this year's postseason as it seems we won't be short of good teams that will ultimately compete towards the World Series. I'm excited to see how the Yankees, Cardinals, Dodgers and Phillies playout, and to a lesser extent, Boston.

Is there any team in particular you will be rooting for, or do you simply not care without the Cubs?

I'm sort of an oddball, as I actually do really like the Cardinals. A Cub fan and a Cardinals fan? I don't know how to explain it except that I always just thought they were cool so I never really hated them (except that odd five game series against them at the end of the season a few years back, where the Cubs took 3 or 4 games - that was awesome).

I'll also be rooting for the Yankies. I would ultimately love to see the Yankees and Cardinals in the World Series (second choice would be NY and LA).

I thought the Giants were going to make the postseason...but that chance is dwindling now...

I want to see Phillies v. Cardinals in the NLCS...with the Cardinals winning

I want to see Angels v. Yankees in the ALCS...with the Angels winning...but that won't happen so it will be the Yanks

Best of all...I want the WS to go seven games, and I want the Cardinals to come from behind in the top of 9th and have Franklin crush all the Yankee fan dreams shortly thereafter in the bottom of that frame. What a great way to experience their first year in a new stadium!!!

I'm not sure that's any stranger than me being a fan of both Indiana and Kentucky in college sports (mainly basketball). I grew up an IU fan mainly because of family background. When I went to UK for graduate school I became a fan, but I couldn't give up rooting for IU after being a fan for so many years and enjoying three national championships (76, 81, and 87).

It was 2003 and the Cubs took four out of five at Wrigley. Guess which game I was at? :x

The only game of the 5 that Woody Williams didn't blow?

Baseball ends on the last day of the season for me. But if there is one team that I might check in on while passing through the highlights, it would be the Phillies. I think they ae the one team, offensively, that can give the Yankees all they can handle and then some. If they can get a closer situation fixed before the playoffs, they would be my favorites to win it, moreso then the Yankees.

i'm rooting for the yankees to win with significant contributions from arod, just to see the media lose their minds

A-Rod hitting .600 with 7 HR in the World Series (while Jeter hits .089) would be pretty glorious. Hat Guy would have a gun in his mouth

It'd be better if they lost with significant contributions from A-Rod and from Jeter crapping the bed. The new definitions of clutch that'd be thrown around would be hilarious.

I'm just not sold on the Yankees rolling into the World Series. I picked them entering the year ... but if Daisuke is back in form, that's a mighty scary team if their pitching is rolling. Right now, I'm expecting another Yankees/Red Sox series for the ALCS ... and I think I'm leaning Red Sox even though everything would suggest Yankees. I guess I'm not sold enough on the Yankees pitching ... although fully aware of the fact that AJ Burnett could turn it on at any moment. Over on the NL side, a lot will depend on the matchups, but I think right now, you gotta like the Cardinals and Phillies to match up in the NLCS. Dodgers pitching just worries me.

For now, I'll guess a Phillies/Red Sox World Series. Not sure who I'd pick to win that ... but it should be a fun postseason.

Cardinals have done exceptionally well beating bad teams, especially in the second half. At home agaist 3 winning teams the last 3 series, they went 3-6. After Colorado they'll be (at most) 4-8 in that department. [expletive], I hope they can win this Houston series because they aint winning nothin with Loshe on the mound.

I just dont see the Cardinals winning back to back series agaist the league's best teams. Since its only about a 2% chance they end up facing LA at Busch in the first round, the Cardinals are likely to have a quick exit, IMO. Also, they've gone from being very likely to hold on to a 1 or 2 run lead in the 9th to unlikely. They havent hit the Phillies level of very unlikely yet, but there is still time.

nah, it'd just be spun into "a-rod's selfish play demoralizes team"

I think that it would be hilarious for it to be Cardinals/Yankees. The whole story would be clean (pujols) vs. dirty (a-rod). What would be the topper would be if prior to game 7, pujols' name would leak as a doper and he would make a buckner like error. It wouldn't be quite as sweet as possible because he has already won a ring. That or another sweet moment would be brad lidge getting his revenge on pujols by striking him out looking to end the NLCS.

They have Carpenter and Wainwright, they can win.
