  1. Half of the posts on that website are about the Cubs! And their posters have the gall to suggest that it is Cubs fans who are obsessed about the White Sox? You barely ever see White Sox talk on this forum, or over on BleedCubbieBlue.com. Their moderators had to make a sub-forum exclusively for Cubs talk (the WHATS THE SCORE? section)!
  2. So even if Otto is subsequently let go you still won't listen? Wow, that's a lot of angst over a radio color man decision. Ron Santo being there was enough for me to not listen to Cubs games on WGN.
  3. A win is a win and I'll take it when we can get it, but my gosh, this series was just full of disappointment, and that 9th inning was too much of a nail biter.
  4. Agree... put a third guy in there with them. Not a fan of Ron. Don't wish ill will on him but I can't stomach listening to him or his moans when something bad happens.
  5. Scratch last post... found it here at Cubsworld.com: http://www.cubworld.com/product/59FIF65/Chicago-Cubs-1984-Freshman-59FIFTY-On-Field-Cap-by-New-Era.html
  6. I've never seen that particular hat before, but it is quite badass. I'm in Lids semi often - if I ever do see it, I would not hesitate to buy it.
  7. I think its great that most Cubs fans have a cherished love and bond with Wrigley... unfortunately, I just don't have it. My dad never took me to games as a kid, and now as an adult, I go a few times a year, and its a cool place, but I just don't have the special bond or attachment to it. I frankly only care about them winning.
  8. Larz of ChicagolandRadioandMedia.com wrote about blog about this the other day in regards to less games on WGN, and the Cubs getting their own network in the coming years. http://chicagoradioandmedia.com/component/content/article/233-blog-chicago-cubs-breaking-fans-hearts-and-the-season-hasnt-even-begun Afterwards, you'll have to checkout the message board for other reactions. Bruce Levin also wrote a blurb about the Cubs future in TV over at ESPNChicago.com.
  9. The Cubs logo spelled out in that road uniform is pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind seeing that replace the current circular UBS logo. I still vote to darken the shade of blue, but I am in the minority on that.
  10. Especially of late, I've noticed a lot more Cubs apparel being worn by people with the C and the little cub on the inside http://sean.keener.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/cubs-logo.JPG This as opposed to the traditional C with the "ubs" in the blue circle... http://images.paraorkut.com/img/pics/images/c/chicago_cubs_logo-12547.png I think the Cubs should ditch the "CUBS" logo and adapt the C with the little cub on all their apparel, including home jerseys? Anyone agree or disagree?
  11. They can do what they want with Wrigley. I go maybe, three or four times a year. Most of my enjoyment of watching Cubs baseball comes from the comfort of my own home or at the sports bar. That said, the aura of Wrigley Field, as neat as it may be, has meant nothing as far as the team winning championships go. The ball park is hyped by fans as being this mecca, yet, the Cubs have yet to win a World Series since they began playing there. I'm not taking away the experience and the fact that so many people enjoy it - to me, I care more about having a consistent winner each year. Some of the new stadiums are pretty nice. I wouldn't mind the Cubs starting new, winning traditions in a new park.
  12. I don't understand how network execs hire their announcers. I was thinking during yesterday's Yankees-Twins game if the people who hire these announcers really like or understand sports and know what a good announcer entails. I was walking a Sunday baseball game on TBS earlier this year and I realized how bad Chip was. Back when he was with the Cubs, I was younger and didn't know as much, so I didn't mind him.
  13. Bought super cheap tickets for tomorrow's game, assuming the weather cooperates. It will be my first time sitting in the bleachers section, which were only $5. Other tickets for the upper deck were available for a dollar, some as low as forty-five and fifty cents. I'm only going tomorrow just to kind of let it out and enjoy one final game before the end of the season.
  14. Half the words coming from Ozzie's mouth are absolutely nonsense. It's sometimes hard to take him seriously. That said, he brings a lot of passion and heart, I believe, and there are clearly some managers in baseball who would benefit if they had half the heart he had.
  15. yeah... 1) Plunk down the money on an authentic '84 sandberg jersey. 2) get the patch sewn on by an expert 3) buy tickets for spring training next season 4) hang out at the minor league complex each morning, corner sandberg and get him to sign the jersey. 5) frame it and either keep it forever or sell it at a profit, even given all the above expense. Yeah.... I'm not quite sure anything else could ever top that idea Tim. The '84 Sandberg jersey is pretty sweet and I did see it two weeks ago at the Cubs store over at Woodfield Mall. As for number five, there's no way I'd ever sell that.
  16. For a Cubs game I went to a few weeks back, they were handing out the 1984 NL Eastern Divisional Championship patch. It's pretty neat, I think, but I don't know what to do with it. The only Cub jersey I have is the blue alternate Derrik Lee. I was thinking about plotting down the dough for the 1984 blue jersey and having the patch sowed on, but that jersey is price. Any other legit ideas of what I can do with the patch?
  17. The concourse behind center field at The Cell is absolutely awesome and my favorite part about The Cell. By the way, I was at Friday night's game... worst ball game experience of my life for many reasons. One of the more annoying aspects was the drunk behind me and two seats over screaming at the top of his lungs, "MAGGGGGGGGGYYYYYYYY" about every 20 seconds when Magglio Ordonez was in right field (we had seats in RF). Ughhhh and the damn wave which I absolutely HATE! Here is what I am going to say. I've been for four Sox games this year (my best friend is a Sox game. I go to Sox games with him if he goes to Cubs games with me... that is the deal). The first game was very cool because I got along great with the other fans and it was just fun - complete strangers and I just BSing and chilling. The last three games were kind of dull. Well, that first game which I really liked, was the Sox playing the Yankees. Most of the fans there that night were Yankee fans. That tells the story. I guess the Yankees have cool baseball fans. And to set the record straight, when I go to the Cell, I go completely neutral and I generally do cheer for the Sox cause I don't hate them. Yes, and how embarrassing should it be for the southside team to know that when the Yanks and Red Sox come to town, the majority of fans in that stadium are of the visiting team... just pathetic.
  18. You must have been really drunk and on a lot of drugs if you thought the Cubs made the playoffs in 2006. I meant 2007 and 2008. Sometimes, I think being at the office messes up my mind just as bad as being drunk or drugs might.
  19. Even with the great attendance that Wrigley draws, the question that any exec. in the organization must ask, how can they maximize profits? Their location only allocates them a certain amount of space. They can leave the field, scoreboard, and redo the concourses and such, but how much more modern can they make them with their limited space? I'm not an expert on ballparks so I'm asking from a true ignorant position. They have to be able to construct and rebuild without losing any charm, yet take advantage of incorporating any modern conveniences when possible.
  20. Ideally, it would be nice if they could significantly upgrade and maintain the aura of the Lakeview era. There is nothing like the Lakeview neighborhood on game day. Even if I can't get tickets, it's worth taking the day off and heading down to the area just to hang out.
  21. I've enjoyed most games from the comfort of my home or at the sports bar or at a friend's house. The ball park doesn't mean a whole lot to me, personally. I won't take away it's place or its rightful spot in history. I've enjoyed being a Cub fan without going to Wrigley much... not because I don't want to go there, just because I haven't gone to a whole lot of ball games in my life. Now that I'm out of college and working full-time, I can afford to go to a couple of games a year and don't mind taking the Red Line to get down there. Growing up, my parents never wanted to take me there because of the traffic and parking situation.
  22. I have been very negative, I admit. I will try to change my tune in the future. Though, I do believe an upgrade to Wrigley or a new ballpark would be cool. I am indeed a Cub fan. Grew up with no cable for the first few years I watched baseball, so I could only watch them on WGN. I think the 1984 era blue jerseys are absolutely the best uniforms ever. I loved Mark Grace, Ryne Sandberg and for the time, Sammy Sosa. I watched just about every game of the 2003 post season, and when they lost, I had said it was a worst feeling than a recent breakup I had went through. I thought opening day of 1993 would be the greatest day ever with Tuffy Rhodes hitting three home runs... then I was dismayed when they lost that game. I grew up watching the Cubs and that can never be taken away. The impact of the organization has left me somewhat bitter, however, and I have at times, questioned my loyalty to the team. At the very end, I want to see a World Series for this team just as bad as everyone else here.
  23. I didn't actually watch Chicago Tribune Live tonight, but I did read elsewhere that on tonight's show, Dave Kaplan said that the Cubs have hired Janet Marie Smith, the person who took part in the renovations of Fenway Park. She was with the Red Sox from 2002 and left the team at the end of August, according to several reports (including this link... http://www.fieldofschemes.com/news/archives/2009/08/3798_janet_marie_smi.html -- if you Google search her name, you will find similar stories). If she truly is coming to the Cubs, could this mean that the organization is anticipating (under Rickett's) renovating Wrigley Field or some other plans? Let's face it, the team has probably been brainstorming ideas and such for years now and may already have a plan in place. I haven't been to Wrigley that many times in my life, but compared to the Cell, which truly is a beautiful ballpark, I would love to see some major upgrades to Wrigley, or perhaps, even a new ballpark in a different location. Because I have not been to Wrigley that many times, I don't associate the team with the field, so I wouldn't really feel much of a loss. What do other Cub fans think? Would you rather see a new park built elsewhere or renovations to Wrigley? If you want a new park, would you want a replica of Wrigley or a different style?
  24. I'm usually pretty apathetic to the White Sox. I didn't watch their 2005 season, but I did watch every post season game and rooted for them, and even stayed up late in Game 3 of the World Series that went late late against Houston. When they won, I didn't wear Sox gear or dance around in the street, but I was happy. It was Chicago and I thought it was cool. I never bought the championship hat or the DVDs. Personally, I don't understand the love one team and hate the other - I am not knocking those who do, but I don't think it is a prerequisite that you must hate the other. I've also found that many more Sox fans seem to adopt that as a rule than Cub fans (if you ever visit that one particular White Sox fan message board, half of them are talking about the Cubs and how they hate us - I hardly see anyone mention them here). A friend of mine in college at the time who was a big Sox fan got mad at me when I told him I was rooting for the Sox in '05. He said they didn't need me to root for them. To each his own.
  25. The 2004 season really pissed me off a lot more. It was great that we were in the playoffs in both 2006 and 2007, but neither of those years brought the emotion that was felt in 2003 when we went deep. The expectations in 2004 were really high and it was the team that really missed out at the end. To top that, they were crying about Chip and Steve, with Dusty Baker leading the charge. The entire organization clearly did not have their priorities straight, starting at least with Hendry. This year reminds me of 2004, but at the very least, their lack of good ball this year didn't stir up the hope that 2004 did.
