I was just having a discussion about what coaches will be at the top of the wish list for big programs this coming offseason. I'm going to rule out the pipe dream guys which would be your Super Bowl winning head coaches (Shanahan, Cowher, Gruden, etc.) and the established guys at powerhouses (Carroll, Meyer, Stoops, Tressel, Saban, etc).

I'm thinking Kelly, Petersen, and Mendenhall are probably at the top. And then I'd say guys like Leach or Tedford if they wanted to step up to a mega program.

That list looks good (assuming it's Brian and not Chip Kelly). I'd rank Leach in the top tier if you can get him. Gary Patterson's had sustained success at TCU, so he should be somewhere in that group as well. If Turner Gill wins the MAC again with the talent he has returning he probably deserves another look. Oh, it probably won't be a power team, but somebody needs to hire Gus Malzahn. I'd hate for his offense to be stuck under Chizik for much longer.

It wouldn't shock me if Gruden wound up in college.

I could see Notre Dame making a push for him or Shanahan.

Well I've heard ND fans think Kelly isn't big enough of a name and that they'd prefer Gruden, Shanahan, or Cowher. My perspective is that Kelly will be about as big a name as Meyer was after he had that undefeated year at Utah and that I couldn't envision Shanahan or Cowher putting up with college football, especially recruiting.

I could see Gruden at ND though.

I would say if Tulsa has another good season, add Todd Graham to the list.

Anyone see Dr. Lou last night? If you did you saw a new low for ESPN. Holtz answered a question from Crabtree about how to deal with agents. Holtz then told him that the agent doesn't have his best interests at heart and how he is the only unsigned first round pick. One would assume because of the way it was presented that Crabtree isn't happy with his agent. However it didn't seem to make much sense to me because he would have fired his agent by now and this would have been news everywhere. I did some digging and it turns out it was a question they recorded Crabtree asking back before the draft and it was just a file footage of him asking about how to hire a good agent. I found a video posted on Youtube in April that is also from ESPN. It was filmed by what looks like interns in the a hallway in ESPN and they ask him about Texas high school football. He has on the same shirt, same earrings, same watch and has the same haircut as the one ESPN just used tonight. Ughhh ESPN is the tabloid of sports.

I found it hilarious that Holtz told him to fire his agent and just go to the 49ers and ask for the best offer. I'm sure that would work out swimmingly for him. It's even worse knowing this was old footage of Crabtree.

Crabtee is fucked anyway. If he holds out all year he gives up a year of $ for the right to get drafted in a lower spot in 2010 and hold basically no leverage.

What is he going to do next year with whoever drafts him's offer? He can't refuse, he has to accept because he can't miss two years and everyone knows that. If he skips 2 years, he'll be a second round pick at best.

He's a moron and whoever is his advisor is a moron.

I don't understand the problem. He has a horribly incompetent agent who is screwing up his career.

And he won't be the 1st reciever taken in 2010.

Right. It's a weak receiver class overall, but at this point wouldn't you rather have Dez Bryant?

And even if somehow Crabtree was the No. 1 receiver taken, it's a very strong draft class, so he might not get picked until later in the first, anyway.

when does the current NFL CBA run out? that league needs a rookie salary cap in the worst way. The NBA does it so much better on that front

After next year, I'm pretty sure. If they don't get a new CBA worked out before next season then the 2010 year is uncapped. Then the CBA ends before the 2011 season.

Here we go.

The current Collective Bargaining Agreement, initially negotiated in 1993, has been extended on several occasions, most recently in March 2006. The 2006 extension, which could have continued through the 2012 season, gave both the NFL and the NFLPA an option to shorten the deal by one or two years.

NFL clubs today voted unanimously to exercise that option and to continue negotiating a new agreement for the 2011 season and beyond that will work better for both the clubs and the players.

This is an article from early last season.

I've got a mancrush on Dez Bryant, Jerry Jones needs to make a move to draft him next year.

That's going to be hard to do with the 32nd pick in the draft. :D

Yeah I don't understand what Parker is doing. He is one of the top agents in the NFL but he is royally screwing this one up. It makes me wonder how much of it is Crabtree because Parker didn't have this problem with his other agents. Here's alist of some of agents (may not be fully accurate)

* Hines Ward (Super Bowl XL MVP and four-time Pro Bowler)

* Richard Seymour (4 time All Pro)

* Walter Jones (5 time All Pro)

* Emmitt Smith (NFL all time leading rusher)

* Larry Fitzgerald (All Pro)

* Derrick Brooks (9 time All Pro)

* Rod Woodson (11 time All Pro)

* Aeneas Williams (8 time All Pro)

* Rex Grossman (Super Bowl QB)

* Devin Hester (NFL record holder, All Pro)

* Cedric Benson (Super Bowl running back)

* Curtis Martin (5 time All Pro)

* Laveranues Coles (All Pro receiver)

* Jason Peters (All Pro left tackle)

* James Hardy (Bills 2008 2nd Round Draft Pick)

* Greg Jennings (Green Bay Packers, 2006 2nd Round Draft Pick)

* Felix Jones (Cowboys 2008 1st Round Draft Pick]

* Tashard Choice (Cowboys 2008 3rd Round Draft Pick)

* Steven Jackson (St. Louis Rams star running back)

* Tyson Jackson (Kansas City Chiefs 2009 1st Round Draft Pick)

* Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers 2009 1st Round Draft Pick)

What makes this all worse is that he is a former Purdue basketball player who was actually drafted in the NBA. He's in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
