This seems like an obvious answer to me, but the topic came up on McNeils show today and discussing it with some of the guys I work with, maybe it's not obvious...

The question is which Chicago third basemen would you want for the playoffs?

Even considering ARam's previous two Octobers, I didn't think anyone would want a rookie there Aram but it is probably 50/50 at my work. And the splits are definitely mixed between Cub and Sox fans.

Beckham got off to a terrible start this year adjusting to the majors etc and has just recently started playing very well. October being the different animal that it is, leads me to believe he would struggle in his first playoff experience as well.

I would take Aramis every time and I'd take the choking dog thrid baseman A-Rod over either of them.

sorry, I'll stick with the guy with the .340/.409/.582 line with 9 HR and 33 RBI in just 40 games.

No frat boy for me.

Beckham is pretty good though I have to admit.

Why choose one when you could have both on the left-side of the infield? Put Beckham back at SS, keep Ramirez at 3B, and enjoy the offense.

Rami's stats for his 3 Octobers..obviously not great. But with the history he has shown for the dramatic in high pressure regular season games. You've got to think if/when he gets back he's due for a huge series

Sorry those are really hard to read. '07 he went 0-12 and '08 he went 2-11

Hit for avg: Push (both are likely .310-330 hitters)

Hit for power: Ramirez (Beckman is likely a 15 maybe 20 HR hitter in time)

Runner: Beckham

Arm: Push

Fielding: Beckham

Both are outstanding players and Ramirez is a current all-star and Beckham will be a future all-star. In this case, we're talking about a corner IF position & I put more weight onto Aramis' ability to hit for power moreso than Beckham's ability to be the better fielder and runner since 3B is typically an offensive position.

I'll take ARam. But I wouldn't be surprised if Danny Mac picked Beckham. He is a White Sox fan, no doubt about that. I would guess most if not everyone on this board would choose ARam, and most if not everyone on a White Sox board would choose Beckham.

Is Beckham really a better third baseman than ARAM? I know he was a SS in college but I've seen some fugly plays by him over at the hot corner.

He's gotten a LOT more solid over there, arguably one of their best gloves outside of Wise and Getz.

Yes, he has better range and a more accurate throw.

I knew that as soon as Gordon started doing well there would be a pile of wsox fans screaming that he is better than ARam. It's a pointless argument, which in this case, was started by a sox-homer radio announcer, on a sox-homer radio station (McNeil/WSCR).

My two cents - Gordon is a fantastic young ballplayer. A superb draft by Williams and the wsox should be happy to have him. I'll take ARam's consistent production though.

McNeil actually used some logic and chose Rami.

Right now you'd be foolish to pick anyone other than Rami, although it looks like Beckham's 'upside' could be that of Rami or even better.

Just thought it was an interesting topic to at least throw around and kill some time this afternoon 8-)

Though I think Beckham will be a better player than Crede....this whole argument smacks of all the stupidity that Sox fans tried to give out when they made claims that Crede was better then ARam

I thought this was going to be a comparison of the early careers of Ramirez and Alex Gordon, which sounded like a very interesting topic.

I was wrong.

That's what I thought too.

Aramis, hands down. That's not being a homer either. Beckham has had a really good month. That's it. Aramis has been good for years. Like others have said, I'll take the consistent production from Aramis any day of the week.

Now 5 years from now? That might be a different story. Beckham looks like he's gonna be a pretty solid player.

Isn't he still like the Cubs alltime leager in postseason HRs and RBIs or something like that?
