So assuming that Glaus comes back, their lineup could be

Rasmus CF

DeRosa 2B

Pujols 1B

Holliday LF

Ludwick RF

Glaus 3B

Molina C

Lugo SS

Damn, Tony wont have to mess around batting the pitcher 8th anymore. This could easily make them the best team in the NL.

Why is that messing around? Hitting the pitcher 8th is smart, and despite what the rest of baseball tries to portray it as, it's not just some gimmick. That said, it's not a huge deal either way.

Lugo at SS would be fantastic. He cant play D for [expletive], and Glaus at 3rd beside him with his gimp arm would be even better. There are reports Glaus cant make throws to 1st base, but yet you just expect him to come right back and be last years Glaus. Your posts of doom and gloom for the Cubs, and roses and unicorns for everybody else crack me the [expletive] up.

This sucks. The Cardinals have now made two moves to upgrade their roster. I'm not conceding anything, but this really really sucks knowing that there is little, if anything the Cubs can do to improve.

Except play closer to their abilities for the next 70 games or however many.

I'd rather take a bet that pigs gain the ability to fly before October

I'd be glad to bet you on the Cubs winning the division if you think it's such a longshot... with commensurate odds, of course

No, just built up anger. Stuff like this really gets to me because it highlights the mismanagement of the resources within the organization. We have no money to add payroll, no prospects that anyone wants that Hendry would actually trade, and we are locked in with the same group of veterans for at least another two years. I really hope Ricketts cleans house, but I'm not holding my breath.

20? Hell Im thinking more like 30 and 100RBIs in the 2nd half. I mean Pujols and Holliday will never get out again, so hes going to have plenty of chances.

He doesnt need to be last years Troy Glaus. Ive never said anything about doom and gloom for the Cubs, but right about now, the Cards seem to have the better lineup on paper, and its pretty scary looking.

I like this trade alot, there is a decent chance that Wallace is going to have to move off of 3b, meaning the Cards would have no spot for him. Mortensen looks to be an ok arm but nothing that special. Also they have 12.5 coming off the books from Glaus, 3.5 coming off from Kennedy, and 4.5 coming off from Greene. So it is certainly possible that they will have money to give him an extension.

Glaus will likely be nothing but a RH pinch hitting specialist.

They'll give up a lot of hits from Glaus trying to run over to 1st to make outs on ground balls hit to him.

Holliday is a Boras client, and even if the Cards intend on giving him an extension, you can bleive that Boras will go through the usual suspects of the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Angels, and Mets for a better offer before making a decision.

Which AL East team is Oakland going to trade Wallace to in 2-3 years?

He'll probably amount to nothing in Oakland. Seriously, who was the last Oakland hitting prospect who actually fulfilled any sort of hype they had attached to them? Chavez? Giambi? Oakland is kryptonite for hitting prospects.

dgoold:Word is the deal does not include any talk of an extension for Holliday. Is going to be a McGwire, Rolen type sales pitch.

A Cardinals friend buddy of mine was discussing this yesterday with me, and I told him I thought it was pretty much 50/50 whether Wallace for Holliday would be a good idea for the Cardinals.

I like Wallace a lot as a prospect, even with no real defensive position. But they just can't afford to waste Albert Pujols' prime seasons.

I've seen some ripping on Lugo in this thread, but he's an upgrade. The Cardinals have gotten this far with some awful black holes this season, and filling them at all gives them a big boost:

LF .212 .294 .342

SS .249 .308 .354

3b .220 .291 .358

Glaus is coming off major shoulder surgery and has yet to step on a Major League diamond this year. To expect him to do anything at all is ignorant. I dont know how you can honestly say you have never said anything about doom and gloom for the Cubs, that is basically what 75% of your posts consists of. Even if the Cards linup on paper looks better(I dont agree with if our team is hitting to their career norms) our pitching 1-5 is still better than theirs. They helped themselves, but they didnt leap in front of anyone.

Who is Lugo an upgrade of? Brendon Ryan can run circles around Lugo defensively, and has hit better than Lugo this year as well. Lugo isnt better than Skip. The only person I can think Lugo is an upgrade of is Thurston, which is really not a big deal.
