Without the Cubs, I wonder how long WGN would last? I mean, I know everybody needs their fill of "Corner Gas" or "Fresh Prince" or whatever reruns they are showing these days...But outside of Chicago sports, they don't really bring anything unique to the table.

I wouldn't be terribly upset though. Put em all on CSN and I'm ok.

It would last about 5 minutes.

There's also MLB.TV if you don't want DirecTV or can't get it.

There was a time when I would have cried over Cubs games leaving WGN. But the reduction in the number of games there has already caused me to get extra innings. I still like WGN games because I can watch them easily at my mom's or other places where there isn't an extra innings package. On the other hand, if a more lucrative deal somewhere else would help the Cubs put a better product on the field, I'm all for it.

This. There are so few games on WGN anymore that it really wouldn't make much of a difference. I'm going to have to shell out the dough for EI anyway, so whatever.

Plus I wouldn't have to watch the fuzzy non-Chicagoland WGN feed, either.

People say buy Extra Innings as it is easy thing to do. I don't the extra money in the budget to buy Extra Innings. I'm looking at the prices, and while they do seem "reasonable", it isn't enough to justify cutting corners in other aspects of the budget.

Knowing this, I am prepared to be screwed from following the Cubs outside of the internet, and the ONE time they come to ATL every yr. But hey, maybe just maybe the Cubs will leave Mesa for a Florida spot in a couple of yrs. Well maybe not.

Even when the Cubs are on WGN I watch them on MLB.tv because the quality is actually better on MLB.tv.

I actually prefer the games that are on CSN rather than WGN, because I can get them in HD with Extra Innings. DirecTV still doesn't have WGN HD.

while my cable provider just added WGN HD, the cubs not being on WGN wouldn't bother for the already mentioned lack of aired games

if there is more holla dollas elsewhere, GO GET IT

Especially if those added dollars go toward additional payroll.

Exactly. If the Cubs could get a YES Network-type setup going, that would almost singlehandedly handle any payroll issues. Granted, the audience wouldn't be as large given the population differences between New York and Chicago, but still, it would be a beast.

Dish Network has WGN HD, but does not offer the Extra Innings package.

They did pay money to get an exclusive WWE show recently, so they do have bit more original programming than they used to.

They got WWE Superstars, which is essentially a recap show covering the "highlights" of RAW and Smackdown. Unless it's changed since I last watched that stuff.

Rumor is that they're going to try to get Smackdown when it's contract runs out with the CW.

And it's not a highlight show, it's more of an introductory type show to the WWE.

Extra Innings is a joke compared to MLB.TV here in Florida. Brighthouse charges $169 and provides zero HD channels. Nor do they have WGN HD. Meanwhile, MLB.TV was $109, has nearly all games on HD, and no commercials. Both blackout the Marlins and the Rays, which is just absurd. Miami is 250 miles away from me. When I lived in DC, they didn't blackout Mets games (230 miles away) or Philly, etc.

Not everyone has the funds to build an htpc, but if you're a movie, music, and sports junkie like I am, it's the best $500 investment you can make. Streaming HD games from MLB.TV looks pretty solid on an LCD, with only the occasional pixel problem. Far better experience then Extra Innings, and cheaper.

Don't know if it would help but you don't have to pay it all at once; i think it's spread out over 4 months on my bill

Absolutely unbelievable that this sale is going on its third year. It hadn't really hurt the actual team until this year, but this is just ridiculous. The Padres got sold over the offseason. I know the Cubs being what they are is a much more complex deal but geez.
