Just heard on ESPN1000 that sources told Levin that Chad Fox is expected to be called up for tonights game. No word on who goes down but I'm sure we can make concrete guesses.

It's not a horrible move. I mean the backend of the bullpen is a mess, and he's pitched well in spring and for Iowa. He should perform better than Shark at least. He may not have the stuff he used to have and if he starts pitching well, just when we start to count on him he'll blow out his arm, but what he lacks in stuff, he makes up for in experience and know how.

Man, I've been following the Cubs for too long...I know how to BS just like they do.

No, in and of itself it's not bad. But it's what led to this that is messed up. Samardzija goes to AAA to get innings, but before he gets a chance they call him up unnnecessarily because some veteran isn't throwing all that well but he's getting the job done. Then when he struggles they replace him with some journeyman reliever with marginal stuff in hopes that he'll pull out some tricks. Meanwhile, they've let guys like Wood, Wuertz and Gaudin go for pretty much nothing, and trade for a mediocrity like Gregg. Lou falls in and out of love with relievers on a daily basis, and when guys get banished they stand no chance of returning. But some guys get an unlimited numbers of opportunities to suck.

Now let Samardzija start in Iowa and take him on the shuttle to the back end of the Cubs bullpen.

Definitely a good move. I figure we can ride him out as long as we can, and when his elbow or shoulder(I forget which) gives, we can go to Ascanio or Stevens. I am glad to have another quality veteran in the pen.

I like this move, though I wasn't a fan of calling Samardzija up in the first place. Fox has been doing well at Iowa so far, and can't be much worse than Samardzija has been. It also allows Samardzija to start again and be ready when someone else in the rotation goes down.

Glad to see Shark sent down(where he shouldve been the entire time), but I would have much rather seen Ascanio called up. Lets hope Fox has a little left in the tank

Has anyone signed Vizcaino yet? With all the bad bullpens out there you would think someone would give him a chance.

In retrospect the best move probably would have been releasing Vizcaino out of spring training and keeping Gaudin. There obviously was no trade market for him since it seems no one wants him even as a free agent.

Overall, however, you can probably throw Gaudin, Vizcaino, and Fox's names in a hat and pick one out to determine the best one. They are all just mediocre middle relievers.

Cubs should have kept Shark in AAA, he could be coming up to make Z's starts instead of Wells. I assume they are sending him down and putting him back in the AAA rotation as a back up plan in case Wells can't cut it.

well this kind of rights a wrong, the wrong being the release of vizcaino and the call up of samardzija.

I'm sure Hendry feels that he owes Fox for letting Dusty destroy his arm. I like Fox over Ascanio because he, like Smardz needs to work on his secondary pitches too and he's better able to do that in Iowa's rotation. I like Ascanio, I may be the only person who does but I could see him being the late season power arm if Smardz goes to the rotation or can't throw strikes.

Chad Fox is one of my favoritest players ever. This is a very wise baseball move.

You still post on this board? I thought we scared you off or something... :hello:

Decent move. Shark should be starting at Iowa. Fox, with how he threw in spring and has thrown at Iowa, needs to be up contributing before his arm inevitably falls off again.

His arm was destroyed before Dusty. Not saying Dusty didn't help further any damage though.

I know this is probably a bit of a stretch, but I just was thinking that maybe they sent Shark down not as much for him to improve, but what if there is a fear of Z's injury being more than just a couple of starts and they want to stretch Samardzjia back out for if he has to come up and start.

I don't understand why Fox is still on the roster, or for that matter, why he ever was. He's pitched a total of 24 innings from 2004-present with an era around 6...
