#19 Mississippi State trailing Rider at home by 12 with 6 to play. That's not going to reflect well on the SEC.

Better than Oregon State being down 44-19 to Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Life after the Barnes announcement (some people are taking this way to hard, he shouldn't have drug the announcement out like that, but dang) got off to a good start. Led by 20 at half over Idaho St, pushed it to 27 or so and let off the gas. This could be the make or break year for McDermott, and it's easily the best team he's had here. The offense can finally run, and they're 12 deep and tall (6'-7.4" is the average height of the starting lineup). Looking forward to a good year.

Lots of promising performances by freshmen tonight. IU was led by Maurice Creek, Derek Elston, and Christian Watford.

Yeah they had a bit of a slow period there early in the first half but then they finished the half strong and got the lead up to 31 points in the 2nd half at one point.

Overall a fun game to watch. Hopefully they can have a strong showing in Puerto Rico.

Ball State 1-0 after beating Valpo 88-78. 6 in double figures. Local product and true freshman Jauwan Scaife is a nice young talent though he may want to try to do something besides shoot when he gets the ball.

Just got back from covering a game so I didn't get to watch Purdue but looking at the box score there are a couple things worth mentioning.

First and foremost Keaton Grant didn't start (according to box score) with Lewis Jackson suspended. Freshman forward Kelsey Barlow did. I'm almost certain this is the first time under Painter that 3 F's started.

Then there's the freshman. D.J. Byrd looks like the next Teague with his shooting only threes and likely very streaky shooting. Patrick Bade (JJ's backup in high school) had 9 rebounds off the bench.

the sec is awful when it comes to basketball, Tennessee is the only decent team in that league

EDIT: my bad, forgot about kentucky. But still, the SEC is bad

the illini freshmen look amazing. yeah, i know that they played siue, but the aggressive mentality on offense is real. paul showed his ability to slash, shoot, and dish and richardson looked rock-solid.

ps-watch out for bill cole.

I liked Illinois better when Weber didn't like recruiting.

Your really not gonna like Illinois next year and the year after then.

Maybe they'll get hit with some sanctions.

i think we're pretty safe from sanctions with weber.

now, for that beal commitment to come through and everything will be pretty nice.

There is no way we are cheating with Weber running things. Or else we probably would hav elanded a lot of the Illinois kids who had their hands out the past few years and ran away from Champaign.

PSU beat Penn by 15 thanks to 27 points by Battle. I'd like to see some other guys score, though, as Battle will have his off nights.

Don't mess with the Islanders!

KU hammered Hofstra, 101-65. Xavier Henry off to a great start with 27 points off 8-12 shooting. I really feel good about our chances at another NC this season, and after the disaster this football season turned into, I'm gonna need it.

As an aside, I think K-State will be a pretty tough team this year, too. Definite top 25 potential.

I still don't quite understand why Miss St. was ranked.

He can't defend. For a team likely to struggle with defense more than scoring, there's no place for Cole on the court.
