The Cubs have a DER of .700 thru Wednesday, 9th in MLB. Last year it was .705, 2nd in MLB.

The Cubs have a UZR of -0.7, which is -2.0 per 150 games, 18th in MLB. Last year it was +11.0 for a +2.3 UZR/150, 10th in MLB.

So its certainly worse, but those numbers aren't outrageously far apart and could correct themselves I guess. Thanks.

Just saw the highlights, what a joke. Theriots D hhurts us once again, learn to catch the damn ball

Can't disagree there. Between double clutches and the kind of play yesterday, it is bad. You could also see that Heilman kind of just lost focus on the mound immediately after that play. His body language was clear that he was frustrated. At the same time, though, Lee needs to realize that Hakeem Olajuwon isn't our SS and has to make a better throw than that.

The Cubs are just not any fun to watch right now.

I'm having trouble mustering up much interest in watching this club right now. They're about as fun to watch as paint drying.

I'm thinking SS and 2nd are the prime spots to upgrade offensively in that order if there's anyone out there and the payroll can be upped if needed. I'd say 1B as well only if the Cubs are willing and able to eat a chunk of Lee's contract.

I'm not overly concerned about Fontenot's offense just yet. He's still showing power. His strikeout and walk rate aren't really any worse than last season. His BABIP is only .240 this season, compared to .324 for his career. There's still a chance he can pick it up a bit.

Don't get me wrong, if they can upgrade at that position, I wouldn't complain. But I'm not too worried about Fontenot yet.

2B would be fine as a Fontenot/Theriot platoon.

Good point.

If Theriot and Fontenot were a coulple of defensive dynamos, that would be one thing, but they're average defendrs at best. Idealy, we could get ahold of a better offensive shortstop, platoon the cajuns at 2nd, and dispose of Miles.

Good offensive shortstops don't exactly grow on trees. On top of that, the Cubs don't exactly have a large surplus of prospects to use in a trade for one.

True about the first part. But the thing is, we do have some decent prospects, the problem is, wed have to deal in bulk, and since we have no idea what direction this team will go once the new ownership is finally settled, we dont want to completely deplete our farm system. 4 years down the road, we may be looking at Ridling/T. Thomas/Flaherty/Vitters across the infield.

Bite your tongue. I'm still holding out for Kelton, Montanez, Hill and Choi.

I'm waiting for Bobby Brownlie's velocity to come back.

Lee's throw was too high. Theriot probably could/should have jumped and gotten it, but then we have no outs in the inning anyway.

The throw was high but it hit Theriots glove and it should have been caught plain and simple.

It hit off the top of Theriot's glove and his arm was outstretched. The only way Theriot could have caught the ball was if he jumped - I can see the argument that he should have jumped, but if he does, we don't get any outs on the play.

What? That was an easy catch for Theriot. He didn't stretch at all. He whiffed, it was entirely his fault.

It didn't look like it to me. The ball hit off the top of his glove. He might've been able to stretch a little more, but the throw was definitely too high.

Interesting how quickly Theriot goes from zero to hero. And Marmol rediscovered the strike zone, in the midst of a single at-bat no less.

Things can really turn around in a hurry (in both directions).

Don't jinx it - I'm fine with the situation of the last two days.
