Haven't been able to follow along with this thread or any real GameCast, just ESPN's pitch-by-pitch account of the game. Did Pujols really go from 1st to 3rd on a groundout to SS in the 9th?

Guzman needs to go just because I'm tired of hoping for something out of him and just seeing meat pitches fly up there to get hammered whenever they actually let him out of his AAA cage.

Guzman is about the best bullpen guy we have right now outside of Marmol

I keep hearing that, but at some point the man should, you know, get some people out without giving up hits and walks.

As should, you know, everybody else in our bullpen outside of Marmol. Our bullpen options right now are garbage plain and simple

I, for one, would like to take this opportunity to thank Jim Hendry for assembling the best bullpen ever.

Yes.

How did Pujols get a single and then go to third on a ground ball to shortstop?

He just kept running and beat the throw to third

Hendry is the best GM in all of baseball. Getting rid of Wuertz for a bag of balls and Wood for nothing was a great idea.

I don't see how Wuertz is really that much better then the guys we have. Losing Wood sucks, but it's not like having Wood on the roster changes things. Neal Cotts either needs to go or Lou needs to stop using him in big situations. I'm confident the 7-9 inning guys will be fine in the long run. That LH specialist and Long guy is what the issue with the pen will be. But most of all we need to start hitting the ball like the way were capable of hitting. Leaving runners at 3rd base, and not getting runs with less then one out sucks.

0-1 pitch was a ball.

gameday had it well in the zone (they had the Bradley strike 3 out of the zone)

Miles to leadoff the bot of the 9th. Sweet we get to start with 1 out already. Just send up Z

I have a feeling Miles will get on. He wants to show his old team that they should have resigned him.

Yea I wouldnt hold your breath

Miles Career OBP: .328

Avg NL OBP, 2008: .331

Pessimism probably isn't worth it there. . . ;)

So he's very likely to make an out, what's your point?

I actually thought my point was so clear that I'm having trouble answering your question... My point is what I showed: He has a roughly league average chance of getting on base each time he comes up. Sure, obviously, as it should go without saying, getting on 67% of the time means it's "unlikely," but come on . . . in a baseball sense, it's perfectly average.

Well, they're wrong. The pitch to Miles was not a strike, not that it matters.

But the point is he's very likely to make an out, and he did. Plus, his career OBP is partially propped up by a somewhat fluking 2008. His current OBP is something like 100 and he's looked like absolute crap. So, as the person noted, the Cubs practically started that inning with an out.
