Thursday, April 16 Wrigley Field | 1:20 PM CT
STL Adam Wainwright, RHP (1-0, 1.74) @ CHC Sean Marshall, LHP (0-0, 0.00)
Cardinals (7-3) Cubs (5-3)

Scouting Report:

Cardinals: The Redbirds' Opening Day starter still hasn't quite found the groove that made him so good in 2008 and most of 2007. However, he has an ERA under 2.00 even while he's been searching for his form. That tells you something about how good Wainwright is capable of being. He's had some struggles at Wrigley and against the Cubs, but there's no hesitation to give him the ball in the opener of the first series of the year between the two old rivals.

Cubs: This will be Marshall's first start of the season. The lefty won the fifth starter's spot this spring, but struggled a little in two Cactus League outings after he was named. Marshall was the swingman last year, making seven starts and posting a 4.15 ERA and appearing in 27 games in relief and compiling a 3.42 ERA. He is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA lifetime against the Cardinals.

I'm hoping today's loss plus Aramis back in the lineup puts the Cubs over the top.

I'd like to see Hoff get a RF start before Bradley comes back. Which starting pitcher would be best suited for that?

For Cubs starters it probably goes: Dempster, Z, Marshall, Harden, Lilly

For the Cardinals it's probably this (for the 3 starters that we know): Wainwright, Wellemeyer, Lohse

Tomorrow's probably the best day, although I think it will partially depend on the wind. Lou won't want to put Micah out there on a day where the wind is playing tricks on the ball like it has the last 2 games.

Lord, please deliver us from evil (Cardinals), :amen: .

Welcome to the boards... don't tread too close to the cliff or you might jump... if you do, you'll fit in just fine around here.

Please please please be back in the lineup today Aram. I dont know how much longer I can suffer thru Mini Me Miles. Wainwright has had command problems so far in the early going, so hopefully the Cubs make him throw strikes. Whats the weather suppose to be like?

THE HOFF IS FREE!

WSCR is reporting Hoff is starting in RF and batting cleanup, so Im assuming this measn Aram is back in the 5 spot with DLee back in the 3 hole.

Wow, Hoffpauir's first start of the year and he's batting cleanup. No pressure.

If he has a really good day and hits two homeruns or something like that, i hope there is pressure on Lou to start him more
