Any chance that the Padres wanted Heilman over Olson? If so, this trade is forgivable.

All reports were that the Padres were the ones enamored with Olson. Baltimore nixed a Khalil Greene to Baltimore deal for Olson.

This simply can't be true. ESPN has screwed this sort of thing up before, and Rosenthal didn't report the same deal.

I'm really hoping ESPN screwed this up and not Bruce Levine.

Why'd we trade DeRosa for 3 almost non-prospects again?

To make payroll room for Bradley and give Fontenot a chance to start full-time.

except they're apparently like $8 mil under budget right now.

Money.

With the money it cost us to sign Aaron Miles and the trade for Heilman we would have been better off not making those moves and keeping DeRo, especially now that we're looking to sign more bench players.

But they had to "get more left handed"!

But aren't reports out there saying we have $9 million to spend to get to our rumored $140 million budget, and are currently looking for a utility player to backup the IF positions?

Even if that $9 million figure is incorrect, the fact that we are going to pay someone $2-3 million to backup 3B and 1B, while spending whatever we spent on Aaron Miles, it just doesn't make sense.

Hendry must have learned that the Padres aren't trading Peavy or that it is actually a longshot.

You mean to replace the injury-risk-filled 1/2 starters of a contender that doesn't exist?

=D>

I think we have plenty of pitching to absorb the loss and compete in the NL Central. PLENTY.

Depending on whether Hendry gets Peavy or not, he's either going to come out of this looking like a genius or an idiot. There is no in between.

Maybe the Padres wanted Marshall, instead of Olson. So the Cubs flipped Olson to make Heilman their long guy instead. So they can use Marshall in the trade. Otherwise thats all I got, but i caution people lets see what the team looks like on opening day before we freak out. Even Crane Kenney said yesterday that the Cubs still had alot of work to do before opening day.

If this is true then I'd say the chance of him actually trying to get Peavy just went down the toilet... considering Towers is in love with Olson
