Summer in Mpls. is great. It gets hot, but the humidity isn't usually too bad.

Where is this in relation to the dome?

on the complete opposite of dt. the dome is on the south side of dt, the new stadium on the north:

the site is in the red box, and sits directly above a freeway, and across the street from the target center. to the left and right are parking garages, so while its completely built around, there are plenty of parking spaces. when I say its shoe-horned into the city, there literally is ZERO room fro the infrastructure needed for a retractable roof.

I don't give a crap about any weather almanac. I used to live in Woodbury and getting the hell out was one of the best things I've ever done. It's COLD and RAINY and MISERABLE there up until about June. I understand you must be associated with the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce or something, but from someone who's lived there, no, the weather sucks. It is worse than Chicago. Quoting the 2008 summer, come on, that was the mildest summer in years, how about 2001, it was rotten.

But my least favorite thing about the Metrodome was the pissing troughs, I hate those things.

But yeah sure. I'm sure Minnesota will get to expand their payroll just like the Pirates did when they got their new stadium.

I dont give a dman about the Twins, their organization, their payroll, or their ability to win. I just cant wait until I get to watch MLB baseball in my backyard that isnt in the dome. And your assertion on MN weather (and my supposed affiliation with the MPLS C of C) is absurd.

edit: summers of 2006-2008 have been unbelieveably hot, actually. hardly mild.

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, I'd like to call out how cold and miserable the April games will be.

you have to understand how cold minnesota winters are. when normal lows have been near zero for a month, going to a ballgame when it's 40 outside is really no big deal. plus these are hearty people, i'm pretty sure they know how to dress so that they don't get frostbite while spending three hours outside.

believe me, an open air stadium in mpls is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better then the metrodome will ever be, even in early april

Completely agree. My neck :P still hurts 5 years later from watching a Twins game at the dome sitting down the third base line (shallow left field). Those site lines were/are brutal.

Out of curiosity, and also because I haven't heard, are the Vikings moving there too or will they remain indoors?

They're getting a new stadium too. I think its retractable roof. Those pansys can't stand playing outdoors in the winter.

not necessarily. they have one in the works, tearing out the dome and replacing it, same site. but the MN state leg has to approve funding, and right now the state is running a HUGE deficit for 2010. its not a given in any way

That was my understanding. My dad lives in Minnesota and is a Vikings season ticket holder. At least he says that a lot of people are ticked at how much public money was dumped on the Twins new stadium. Kind of like how St. Louis and Missouri got screwed royally on the dome the Rams play in. When the Cardinals built Busch Stadium III they "only" got minimal public money. That can easily be seen by how cheap the new Busch is when compared to other recent ballparks.

It's his feeling that with the economy the Vikings are going to have to buck up most of the money if they want a new place. Either that or they'll be on the short list for a move to Los Angeles.

well, I know they are working on drawings for the stadium, and some on the inside claim it will get passed. Pawlenty has to approve something for funding, or a whole lotta construction people are not going to be happy. they already built the 35w bridge with out of state contractors. idk tho.

One solution for these APRIL GAMES OF DOOM would be for Major League Baseball to start their season on the road. The Cubs should do much the same. I'd sacrifice a good deal of home games to start and end the year if it meant a huge slate of games in June and July. That's when Wrigley is at its best, so exploit it. But as mentioned, Minnesotans are tough bastids, they can handle a 45-degree game.

I'm sure warm weather cities would be excited to have less home games while people are on summer break.

i'm sure the Marlins would like fewer home games when it's 95 degrees with 95% humidity

Quick glance has them drawing better in the summer than April.

so 7000 fans instead of 2500?

every team draws better in the summer than April (unless they're on a Cleveland-esque home sellout streak)
