Yeah it does, just worded my argument differently. I should have just said those who were posting on this board that we should not doubt DonnieD until he's proven wrong but yet went ahead and called the kid on Cubs.com a liar before he was proven wrong are hypocrites.

there's a difference between someone who builds up cred here and some random dude on cubs.com who posts about how far away his cousin lives. if you can't understand that, i don't know what to tell you ... other than i'll give you some sweet deals on peavy autos (my cousin is friends with him), lol.

if i wanted to read cubs.com, i'd read it.

How do you know he's a random dude on cubs.com, have you been posting on there for a while? So because he mentioned how far his cousing lives you begin to doubt him? Give me a break. I mean honestly i want to say i dont believe the guy but after hearing DonnieDs story come true after so many doubted him, i wouldn't be surprised if the kids story is true. Its just funny how some of you on here, not all, act as if this board is at the top of the list of being 100% BS proof.

The Cubs.com isn't lying. He provided a name of his cousin which matched. Then he provided where he lives and how far he lives from his cousin which matched. I don't know anyone who would go thorugh all that trouble for a lie.

so he proved that he has a cousin

How does that even prove he has a cousin? And how is getting a name and address and providing a distance from another location trouble?

i have no idea. i just thought it was really funny how that stuff mixmastamiguel posted was supposed to make the guy's story more credible. forget the fact that giving addresses provides nothing.

He said his cousin is "so and so", and then we looked it up and his cousin is who he says he is and is a highly ranked official with the Cubs. Then he said where his cousin lives, and we looked it up, and that guy does live there, and then he provided other information like addresses and how far he lives from his cousin and blah blah. It was a lot of evidence, and I even though it "could" be made up, I just can't see someone going through all that trouble to make something up.

But how does that prove the person is his cousin? It's not hard to get a name and an address, and then tell people how far you live from that address.

Supposedly he told a few people a lot more than that to show he is related to him. And the Cubs.com people deleted his post right away meaning it could be true.

Who even cares though?

If it's true, we'll find out soon enough

If it's not true, the guy is getting what he wants by having people discuss it on here for 2-3 pages.

Life is too short to debate the validity of such a randomly ridiculous rumor. If a blog mentioned something, or if a real beat writer mentioned something, then by all means investigate. But if its some random "friend of a friend knows someone" rumor thats actually legit less than 1% of the time, why bother?

+1 These types of rumors got old a long, long time ago. I have yet to see a "my friend knows a guy" type rumors actually scoop a story as big as a Peavy deal or the like. I get that Donnie D was just reporting what Peavy himself wanted, and this has held up, so I don't include it for the purposes of this discussion. But sometimes we just want something so badly we are willing to believe anyone who will tell us what we want to hear. Ocams Razor tells us the simplest answer is usually true. Is it likely that someone on cubs.com has information that has eluded all major baseball beat reporters? No. Therefore, the simplest answer is that he's not on the level.

I hope I'm wrong, but there it is.

I once played golf with a guy who lived next door to Adam Dunn in Cincinnati.

Wow. 2 and a half pages dedicated to the validity of a poster on another message board.

Congratulations...based on the length of this conversation, it can reasonably be inferred that you guys officially have the most boring jobs in the world.

On a brighter note, at least the conversation about this poster on Cubs.com has something to do with Peavy and the Cubs. Go back a few pages where people decided that the future of the Reds was relevant.

I know this guy, who knows the owner of this business, who has an employee at this business that sometimes stops into this one shoe store to buy shoes, and the salesman at the shoe store knows the brother of the best friend of the guy who made that post on Cubs.com, and he confirms that the story is legit.

Can we officially move on to something else a bit more interesting now? Like Jake Peavy's shoe size or how often he mows his lawn?

The state of the division is completely relevant to how hard the Cubs should push for another arm and how much farm help they can afford to let go of.

Is Peavy a Cub yet?

Not happening until you get a new owner, if then.

So you're saying there's a chance. . .. .

. . . .. I got ya.

Of course, there's a chance. I've learned never to say never when Hendry is after a guy he really wants.

Bruce, if no Peavy, is this the roster we are taking to ST in a month or so?

Bruce has a post in Cubs discussions that discusses this issue.
