  1. Any way we can have the draft on like a Sunday night? We have baseball tryouts on that Monday night.
  2. Anyone wanna start a fantasy baseball league?
  3. That's a NASTY 1-5 they would have: 1) Hunter Pence 2) Miguel Tejada 3) Lance Berkman 4) Carlos Lee 5) Adam Dunn
  4. I would say that this team is noticeably better than last season, and I'm tired of people saying we're worse. How are we worse?? Because we replaced Wood with Gregg? Um no, not any worse. Because we went from DeRosa and Edmonds to Miles and Bradley? Nope, still better there. We went from Marquis to Heilman?? To me there's another upgrade. Getting Harden, Guzman, Gaudin, and Shark for a full year over guys like Howry, Eyre, and Fox. Hoffpauir over Ward. Platoon Fukudome and Reed instead of just Fukudome all year. We didn't need to make any improvements this offseason, but we did, and it will make a big difference.
  5. Marmol, Gregg, Gaudin, Cotts, Marshall, Guzman, Vizcaino, Samardzija. That's still 1 too many pitchers. We need to trade Vizcaino, or I'm afraid Shark will be starting in the minors. Or just get rid of Marshall and Guzman in the same trade for Peavy. Vitters, Marshall, Guzman, Hart, and Stevens for Peavy
  6. He just traded a reliever who spent half the year in AAA and makes over a million dollars for two players who were Top 30 prospects a year ago. I think Guzman can replace Wuertz I believe they were top 30 prospects in the Oakland A's system, not the whole major leagues. I still think it's a fine trade though. Wuertz was out of options and I would rather have Guzman on this team, he has more upside. I would still like to see Vizcaino go.
  7. Bako = Blanco Fontenot = Fontenot Reed = Reed Gathright = Pie Hoffpauir > Ward I don't see how our bench is any worse than last year. The only differences is that we have Miles instead of DeRosa which is the opposite of going from Edmonds to Bradley.
  8. I don't see why we traded Cedeno if we were just gonna sign another infielder as a backup. That's why I really see Hoffpauir as the last roster guy. We only need 1 backup IF. And if that person gets hurt, we can call up Luis Rivas the next day.
  9. The reason why I think Heilman would go over Marshall is because I think we'd want 2 lefties in our pen. When we had Olson, we would trade him for Peavy and have Marshall be our 2nd lefty in the pen. Now since we dont have Olson anymore, we'd have to trade Heilman in order for Marshall to be our 2nd lefty in the pen. But to me, I dont think it's really a big deal to only have 1 lefty in the pen. So lets trade Marshall and keep Heilman!
  10. That's what Hart, Stevens, and whomever are for. I think a deal of Vitters, Heilman, Hart, Stevens, and Wuertz is good enough.
  11. Yes Peavy was here this weekend. He was at O'hare on Monday, he left to fly back to SD on Monday morning at 11:30 on American Airlines. This was posted by a few posters on ChicagoCubsOnline.com. I think Heilman is more valuable than Olson, and the Padres want a veteran, cheap, young, SP. Maybe they like Heilman better than Olson. Or maybe they want Marshall over Olson, and this makes Heilman our insurance guy.
  12. I think it says a lot that it is now posted on the Cubs website. Lets hope this gets done before the season starts.
  13. I think in the 4 team scenarios, the Padres would have taken both Marquis and Cedeno. But they didn't want to eat any of Marquis' contract so that's where the Rox got involved. And if they truely don't want Cedeno then that's where Seattle comes in. Also I think the Cubs are reluctant to trade Marshall, so they would need to find another MLB read young SP, aka Heilman.
  14. I really feel like the thing that is holding this up is getting a 3rd team involved (Seattle). The Padres want Vitters, Olson, Hart, and someone like Stevens or Castillo. The last guy they want is either Marshall or Heilman. I think the Cubs like Marshall better because he's a lefty and would be our lefty bullpen guy, so they are trying to work out a deal to send Cedeno and Wuertz/Vizcaino to Seattle for Heilman and then trade Heilman to SD. I really think the trade turns out to be something like this: Vitters, Olson, Hart, Stevens/Castillo, and Heilman for Peavy
  15. During the Winter Meetings they said the Cubs don't have the pitching prospects needed to make the trade so a 3rd or 4th team would have to be involved. The Cubs got those pitching prospects in the DERO trade. I'm sure Towers told him he likes those prospects. They also said they want Olson from the Orioles. They got him as well. Now all we have to do is add the initial parts and we get him. ie Vitters, Cedeno, Hart
  16. I would love that trade too, but too bad it's not gonna happen. Even though trading Vitters over Marshall would benefit this team a lot more this year, I would still rather trade Marshall. I see it more as Olson, Vitters, Stevens, Hart, Cedeno, and maybe one more of the CLE prospects.
  17. That doesn't make sense. You always needs prospects in your system for depth and for other trades later on. How can you say there is "no way" that this stuff wouldn't have happened if it weren't related to Peavy? The reasons are pretty obvious. DeRosa and Marquis were traded to free up payroll for Bradley and Pie was traded because he was out of options. Could this stuff be related to Peavy? Sure, but I don't see how you are acting like there is no way this stuff would have happened anyways. I really woudln't bet on Peavy. I think Hendry is about done. Teams who are expected to compete and win their division don't just trade their starters for prospects. They don't make a bunch of moves to have 30 pitchers on their team. With this trade we have no room for like 4 pitchers on our team. Guys like Guzman, Hart, Wuertz... Peavy is coming.
  18. Step 3 is finally complete!!! Step 1: Trade DeRosa for pitching prospects: CHECK Step 2: Trade Marquis to free up cash: CHECK Step 3: Trade Pie for Garrett Olson: CHECK Step 4: Trade Ronny Cedeno and Luis Vizcaino for Aaron Heilman: within a week Step 5: Trade Heilman, Olson, Vitters, Stevens and Wuertz for Peavy: within 2 weeks There is NO way we complete ANY of these steps without getting Peavy! We have NO USE for pitching prospects, we have NO USE for Garrett Olson. No room for these guys anyways. Plus Cedeno needs to go.
  19. You don't understand! I am extremely bored at work all day. All I do is check sites to see if the Cubs got Peavy.
  20. Supposedly he told a few people a lot more than that to show he is related to him. And the Cubs.com people deleted his post right away meaning it could be true.
  21. so he proved that he has a cousin How does that even prove he has a cousin? And how is getting a name and address and providing a distance from another location trouble? i have no idea. i just thought it was really funny how that stuff mixmastamiguel posted was supposed to make the guy's story more credible. forget the fact that giving addresses provides nothing. He said his cousin is "so and so", and then we looked it up and his cousin is who he says he is and is a highly ranked official with the Cubs. Then he said where his cousin lives, and we looked it up, and that guy does live there, and then he provided other information like addresses and how far he lives from his cousin and blah blah. It was a lot of evidence, and I even though it "could" be made up, I just can't see someone going through all that trouble to make something up.
  22. The Cubs.com isn't lying. He provided a name of his cousin which matched. Then he provided where he lives and how far he lives from his cousin which matched. I don't know anyone who would go thorugh all that trouble for a lie.
  23. Just a little FYI: A guy over on the Cubs board posted something saying his cousin is high up in the Cubs organization and that Peavy was traded to the Cubs. Take it for what it's worth, but I just don't get why people would make this stuff up anymore. I'm guessing his knowledge was skewed just like in the game "telephone". Maybe his cousin meant that a deal is in place, because I highly doubt a deal was completed with no leaks.
  24. lol i'm sure the orioles would love that deal. Why not? Garrett Olson for Felix Pie has been the rumored deal all offseason, it's good for both teams.
