I don't really miss Red, but I miss Larrivee.

Ok maybe thats who I miss, I dont know. I just know Ive liked the Bulls announcers in the past, and Funk is doing nothing for me except putting me to sleep.

Funk is a huge improvement over Dore though. I heard him call an NIU game on ESPN360 earlier this year, and he was bruuuuuuuutal.

19 boards for Gooden! I can understand Rose or Thomas being inconsistent, but guys like Gooden, Hinrich and Gordon need to come out and play like they did in the 2nd half all year long for the Bulls to have a chance.

Make that 20! Gooden himself just said basically what you said about him. He felt like he didnt compete last night like he can, and it left a bad taste in his mouth. I hope he finds something to leave a bad taste in his mouth every game wow. And it hasnt been said enought yet....DERREK ROSE!

Gooden finishes with 20 boards. Damn.

Very strong defensive effort from the Bulls tonight. We allowed just 36 points in the 2nd half and also only allowed 19 in the 1st, so they were phenomenal for 3 quarters on defense. Good start to the season, but we have a very tough week ahead next week starting with Orlando on Monday.

Its going to be an up and down season with this team, and I really dont care. I just want to see D Rose make progress, and hopefully come the 2nd half of the year the team shows signs of progression. I want the team to win, but I understand there are going to be games like last night with this team. Just keep getting better, thats all Im asking for.

I think we all can agree....Tonight he proved he can score when needed, the first two games he proved he can be a playmaker. Tonight I think Rose became the frontrunner for the ROY, regardless of Beasley numbers.

A star is born, and we are watching it shine....

i HATE Wayne Larrivee on Bulls games.

Sounds like alot of us have differing opinions on the Bulls guys. I just dont like Funk this year I know that.

With no CSN, I haven't heard him. I liked Funk on the radio. Larrivee just drives me nuts with whatever sport he does (he's on ESPN2/Big 10 network at lot too). He gets super excited over nothing, and has like 2 catch phrases that he uses 100 times each during the game.

GAME LEADERS:

Points: Rose (26)

Assists: Gordon/Hinrich (4)

Rebounds: Gooden (20)

Steals: Sefalosha (3)

Blocks: Thomas (5)

MVP OF THE GAME:

Drew Gooden: 7 PTS, 20 RBs, 3 BS, 2 A

DREW GOODEN WITH THE MONSTER GAME!

good win, but i'd like to see more assists. a team of guys trying to create their own shots is prone to failure on a bad shooting night

While I agree, the ability of Rose to get to the basket will hopefully help overcome some of those bad shooting nights.

i mean more assists all around. Thomas can be a better player if teams start collapsing on Rose in the paint. I hate Thomas trying to be a jump shooter. Where is the pick and roll with Rose and Thomas?

Uncharacteristically I agree with you 100%.

Del Negro needs to watch every New Orleans game from last year and see what they did with Paul and Chandler, and do the exact same thing with rose and thomas

I have a feeling I'll be much more into the Bulls after football season, but for right now it's really nice to see Rose play well.

There is WAY too much Funk bashing in this thread. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

I will agree I like him better on the radio than TV. Swersky (sp) seems like a better TV guy too from what I've heard. I listened to part of Friday's game on the radio, and he didn't seem to do a good job of setting the scene and getting every detail of what's happening on the court like Funk masters.

Neil Funk is my favorite PBP guy in any sport in this city, with Pat Hughes a distant second.

It'll take some time for both guys to adjust, I think. But from what I heard, the radio broadcast is just a tad behind Funk and King.

Gooden has the tools to be a monster on the boards, but he's never shown the ability to do it consistently. I see no reason to believe that will change now, in his 6th or 7th season. You'll get a few games like this every year, and others where he'll disappear. And I suspect he'll finish the year right around 11pts, 8.5 boards/game, just like every year. It's a shame, because he could be such a better player than that.

seems crucial to have a good start this year. How many years recently have started with a just terrible first few weeks?

I'm as optimistic as they come about this season (I have them winning 40-44ish, if that's any indication), but I don't see them starting much better than 5-12 or 6-11... I'd be extremely pleased with 7-10... the early schedule, coupled with a young team learning a new system and all that junk, looks very tough...

They actually did/are doing that. Literally. There was a story about it somewhere during training camp or the summer. Don't exactly remember where/when.

Oh, and Funk and King is an awesome booth and a significant upgrade over the garbage that has occupied the Bulls booth for a long time (they were decent during the dynasty but they just got worse and worse and worse since).

I'm way late to the party on this, but I watched about 15 minutes of the Bulls Celtics game the other night and had to wonder if we got the same calls back in the MJ days as the Celtics were getting the other night. I saw TT get hammered under the basket about 3 times with no call, Garnett blatantly push off to catch a post entry pass, and a couple of other things that were just terrible calls.

If the Bulls continue to not get calls like that and the Celtics do, it won't be a mystery how they end up with the records they will. The Celtics beat them up the other night, but the refs sure didn't help at all.
