Me because:

A) I thought his fiery reputation was a knee jerk reaction to the Dusty Baker era

B) I think I remember hearing that he had issues with playing veterans over rookies just like Dusty

C) I heard he wasn't a great in game manager

I guess I can't believe everything I read.

Guess you can say he was a pleasant surprise :)

I was against him. I think I may have started to hedge my bets as he became an obvious candidate and I heard him talk about walks/obp. I don't think managers make that much of a difference, especially not for the positives, the more they meddle, the tougher they make it for their team to win. But I've liked Lou quite a bit.

I don't know about that. He still has had problems allowing rookies to adjust to the bigs... Pie had almost no chance at all, and Fukudome getting benched with the lead we have in the division was just plain stupid.

And there's no doubting that he's made plenty of stupid in-game moves... and they seem to come more often in games he deems critical, which makes me nervous about seeing Soto trying to bunt again during the playoffs.

He's been better than I expected, but he hasn't been fantastic.

Hard to fault him benching Fukudome. He flat out sucked in the 2nd half, He needed a breather.

Lou has surprised me, and we should give props to Gerald Perry also.

He was my second choice behind Girardi, but I can't remember a better Cubs manager since I started watching the team (going back to the college of coaches). Not perfect, but I'm happy with him.

I preferred Lou to Girardi without question. Girardi is a sac bunting fool of an old school manager who would have done nothing to get this team out of its offensive woes. I also never trusted him after he said he noticed something wrong with Lieber's delivery but didn't say anything until after the fact.

The way he's handled the media has been outstanding. Sure the fact that he's been winning has helped him, but I always enjoy listening to him in the press conferences and interviews.

I've been pleasantly surprised with Piniella. He definitely wasn't my first choice as I was hoping for Larry Dierker, who it appears isn't going to manage again.

Had I know that Piniella would hire Perry and emphasize OBP as much as has been, I would probably have been more in favor of him than I originally was.

I'll be honest. This hiring is neither here nor there for me. I won't lose sleep over it. I care WAY more about the upcoming free agency period than who sits in the dugout looking fat and old

Me. I was also on the Dierker bandwagon, and whastsisface who went to the Marlins, but I definitely preferred Lou to Girardi (who I didn't want at all).

I was kinda against it, Mainly because as some of us here i wanted to see a younger manager in Girardi. Wasn't Girardi fresh off that pretty good season with the Marlins and he had just gotten fired? I think so.

Agreed. At the time I saw him as an angrier, whiter Dusty Baker.

I was all about Fredi Gonzalez.

Best possible manager for this team, I was all for it.

But... When I was a kid, I lived in Oregon and had the pleasure of watching him for many years in Seattle.

I thought there were better options available but accepted it and moved on. I had kind of forgotten the Rothschild issue - at that time I remember a few voices in the wilderness saying that Rothschild was ok the problem was Dusty would not listen to him. I think this may have been proven out.
