As obnoxious as Stone is, I have a hard time imagining him chiming in with yyyyyyyYYYYESSSS for his part of the homerun call. I hope to never subject myself to this reality.

My prediction is that by the end of season one, either Stone or Harrelson won't be doing TV for the Sox.

Stone doesn't suffer idiots and Harrelson is one. I could actually envision a shouting match in the TV booth.

I agree. I don't see any way those two get along.

That would be awesome.

"Listen up, White Sox fans. You can't have enough douchebagery when it comes to White Sox Baseball. Now you can enjoy two douchebags on TV, every game".

Maybe I'm just older than most here. But Steve Stone, to me, was the voice of the Cubs growing up. Far more so than Harry Carry. Especially after Harry's stroke in '87, Steve carried those broadcasts and generally did a good job. Him getting run out in 2004 for basically saying about the team what anyone with eyes could see was just plain silly.

I'll probably catch a few Sox games next year just to hear Steve.

Also, the complete mismatching between Hawk and Stone is sure to create tons of unintentional comedy gold.

So when the Sox hit a home run, will Stone say "Yes" like DJ did simultaneously with Hawk after the "You can put it on the board" trash?

"Not gonna happen,'' Stone said Saturday. "Hawk will have to put it on the board by himself.''

I remember DJ criticized Hawk right on the air for that HR call. Not long afterwards he was joining in as if he always thought it was a great thing.

We'll see. If Stone doesn't do it, that's a tacit admission that he thinks it's stupid. That's not going to sit well, IMO. If he does join in, then it's going to sound ridiculous. I think there's potential there for some tension between the two.

Stone seemed like an old buddy of Harrelson's when he did TV work last year. He'll give in to the old coot and be his lapdog.

They already had to make the radio booth bigger to fit the egos of Farmer and Stone in it, and now the Sox are going to have to do the same to the TV booth. My hope is that at the very least Stone doesn't let Hawk incessantly rail on the umpiring as if they always get hosed and no one else does.

I used to like Stone but then he kind of became a prick in 2004 and beyond. Maybe he always has been but I didn't notice it until 04.

I really feel old when posters grew up listening to Steve Stone. I go back to Jack Brickhouse and Vince Lloyd.

if stoney does that home run call even once, I will lose all respect I've ever had for him. I don't like the way things ended between him and the cubs, but he's better than that gimmicky crap

That would be hilarious.

How many years are left on Hawk's contract? I wonder if this isn't an attempt to drive him out. Is Hawk even that popular with White Sox fans? All of my friends and family who are Southsiders loathe him, and he's obviously a joke on the national level...maybe putting Stone in there is a calculated move.

Progression towards the center? :)

I've always liked Hawk, the positives outweigh the negatives. I could deal with the whining and the over the top homerism if I enjoy the overall broadcast.

As far as Stone, I still dislike for '04 with him and Chip, but I do enjoy his analysis even with the know-it-all attitude.

I can't believe I missed this. What the hell??

What positives?

Long bouts of silence when they are losing.

I won't go as far as the bolded part but I agree with everything else.

I'm pretty sure most Sox fans basically think of him as their Ron Santo - they know he's not the best, but he's theirs.

His analysis of the game situations, for all the negatives (whining, over the top homerism) he's good at breaking down game situations as well as dead air time with talking about his playing days and his teammates/competitors.

Listening to Brenly analzye the game has made me appreciate Hawk more b/c I feel Hawk is broadcasting the game to someone over 8 years old, while Brenly either thinks I'm stupid or just learning the game.

I agree with every word except for the "more so than Harry Caray" part. At least for me, anyway.

But the rest of it is spot on.
