Barry Rozner writes the same thing in the Daily Herald today.

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=233589

In the unlikely event Cuban becomes the high bidder, Selig can merely take a vote among the owners, who will decline to accept Cuban, and then Zell can't argue baseball refused to consider the best offer.

First of all, how is exactly is that unlikely? Hasn't it been reported (maybe heavily speculated) that Cuban was the high bidder through the first round of bids?

Also, he keeps talking about Canning. He flat out says that Canning is one of the leading candidates. Up till now, and we haven't heard any actual reports that would indicate that anything has changed (un-sourced claims by a hack columnist like Rozner aside), wasn't Canning eliminated in the first round? He doesn't even address that this happened, does he?

To me this just sounds like more of the same people who just don't think Cuban will get approved, and don't necessarily know anything.

Wasn't Canning originally "out" too, and now he's back in?

So let me see here: Canning was out *no wait he's really back in*. Cuban was the highest bidder *oops wait he really isn't.*

Sounds like a lot of people who don't really know what is going on.

FWIW, the Canning out, Cuban highest bidder were actually reported as news... the other parts are more like speculation from Barry Rozner and some blogger who claims to have sources.

That said, there was always speculation that Canning could make his way back in through another group, somehow, but there hasn't been any indication that that has happened up till now.

How are some of these guys going to find the money to get this done with the present state of the economy? Cuban is one of the few who can actually do it.

Barry Rozner's Daily Herald article is his opinion of the situation and purely speculation, and the Chi-Ball blog is full of crap. I won't believe any of this unless I here it directly from Cuban, Zell, or Kenney.

SORRY MARK, we still love you... =D> :yahoo:  :hello: :clapping:

I have sources that say Cuban will be announced as the new owner next week.

My sources are myself and a couple friends who really want Cuban to be the owner. See the point??? By saying just sources it can be anyone and they can say whatever they want whether they anything or not.

I smell Bud Selig/Jerry Reinsdorf all over this. Both know Cubs fans want Cuban as owner, and for different reasons neither want Cuban as a Cub owner. Cuban is one that will not get himself manipulated like this article suggests. So I really do doubt the credibility of this guy who reported this.

Interesting.

The scenario put on that blog is plausible. But I’ll wait and see if I hear anything more definitive before I comment further.

Oh joy, I can hardly wait for this windbag to give us his thoughts.

Al Yellon is the polar opposite of the massively depressed crew that frequents game threads. He's optimistic to the point of being unbelievably grating.

Yeah, if it was there, it's been deleted.

The part about Cuban that I would've been most excited about wasn't so much the payroll but his forward-thinking approach.

That's what I'd be really bummed about not having if he doesn't wind up owning the team.

ughhh..the last thing I wanted was an owner with heavy assets in the financial markets.

With the way the financial sector is tanking you may not have to worry. He may not have the money.
