the florida marlins - their "ballpark", their "fans", their "announcers", their "owner". pretty much everything about them is a pox on baseball.

I'm down with this one. Oh, I hate the Marlins.

The whole pitching wins thing comes from the fact that it's a stupid stat misnamed.

Wins are the most important thing in baseball. It's something a team earns.

The stat that so many people call "wins" is actually:

Number of Times A Pitcher Started A Game, Pitched At Least Five Innings and Left With His Team Winning and They Never Relinquished the Lead, Plus Number of Times the Pitcher Relieved and Was the Last Person to Pitch When His Team Took the Lead for the Final Time in a Win, Plus The Number of Times the Pitcher Relieved in a Game in Which the Starter Did Not Go Five and Was Judged To Be The Most Effective By The Official Scorer When His Team Won.

NTPSGPALFILWHTWTNRLPNTPRWLPPWHTTLFTWPTNTPRGWSDNGFWJTBTMEBTOSWHTW is a stupid stat and if it didn't have a name that made people confuse it with the most important stat in the game, nobody would care about it.

I read the last paragraph first and figure you just typed a bunch of capital letters in a row for no reason. Then I read the whole post and figured it out. Well done, sir.

stupid nicknames for Curveballs

yacker, hammer, bender

there was some old-timer who'd always come to Ole Miss baseball games and I'd always hear him scream "throw him the snakeball!!!"

I'm guessing he meant a curve...

Stupid names for home runs:

Dinger, Tater, etc

Steve Berthiaume saying "Fill thine horn with oil, and go"

But then again, we could go another 30 pages on ESPN things that tick us off.

I actually liked "say hello to my little friend" the first time I heard it as a HR call.

The only time Kenny Mayne has even slightly amused me is when he shouted "I am the finest player in ALL the land!" when someone hit a homer.

Yeah, those used to be awesome when they were relatively new. Some of them are still ok, but those aren't used very often.

The likes of Eric Young and Fernando Vina making Dave Otto-like grunts, "woah"s and "man, he just looked silly on that one" on the "That's Nasty" segment of Baseball Tonight.

Can those guys really talk about looking bad against good pitchers? I mean really.

That wasn't Kenny Mayne (at least not originally). The first was Steve Berthiaume.
