Red Sox are really getting a hell of a deal if they don't include a really decent prospect or two on top of Manny.

So are the Pirates if any of the prospects they're supposed to get are any good.

Exactly. Bay to Hermida is probably a lateral move, with Hermida being cheaper and having more upside. If they get a decent arm or 2 on top of that, they've made out. Florida is really getting screwed in this deal. Hermida and Tucker for 2 months of Manny?

boston would be making out great in that trade. i don't know why any team would allow them to really win a manny trade when they're the ones in the corner.

I agree and not only that Florida can't offer Manny arb either so they won't be able to get picks? I don't understand the Marlins in this deal at all.

Was that part of the agreement that they wouldn't offer Manny arbi? I hadn't heard that. That'd be crazy. I just thought it was that they had to turn down his option.

The bit I heard yesterday was that they couldn't pick up the options and they couldn't offer arby.

That's what I heard as well.

Wow, well thats a bad deal for the Marlins, especially if they are giving up either of those minor leaguers, then it will be a REALLY bad deal.

If that happens, the Pirates are actually looking like a team that may have some real talent in a few years...

C - ?

1B - Steve Pearce

2B - ?

SS - Jed Lowrie

3B - Pedro Alvarez

LF - Jose Tabata

CF - Andrew McCutchen

RF - Jeremy Hermida

They're gonna have a few holes, and their pitching staff will still need to come around... but that has the makings of a team that could be annoying for a few seasons.

DOUMIT

and they'll have a lot more than that if they trade McLouth

Why trade McLouth? He's still cheap production for a while, no?

well a lineup with Tabata and Alvarez is several years in the future, where I'm presuming he'll price himself out of their range a la Bay

Gammons says this deal is all but dead. Guessing that means it goes through at the deadline.

Manny Ramirez-OF-Red Sox Jul. 31 - 2:42 pm et

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Dodgers are back in on the Manny Ramirez talks, but they're offering Andre Ethier, not Matt Kemp.

This after Heyman said last night that the Dodgers had made it clear they were willing to trade Kemp for Ramirez. The Red Sox would surely prefer the right-handed hitter and are likely to hold out for him

We got four good prospects for Bay?

I'm sad to see Bay go, but, I think I like this a lot.

Much emotion here.

My 7 year old is not going to be happy, though.

You guys raked in that trade. Nice work.

Good for the pirates. I only vaguely remember one name from the radio, Laroche to Pirates. I remember hearing his name b4 as a decent prospect (as you can tell I don't follow the minors).

But it's nice the Pirates actually get some good players in a deal. :D

Great pickups for the Pirates this season. Between them, the Brewers having a bunch of cheap, young good players, the Cubs with their key players mostly locked up for at least 3 years and Cuba maybe looming, the Cardinals somehow always abe to string together a competitive team and the Reds with some good young players (if Dusty doesn't destroy them), the NL Central apears to be a dangerous place.

A dangerous place to be an Astro?

Is Cuba going to attack Houston?

Vive la revolucion.

I couldn't seriously think of any reason to include the Astros without laughing myself onto the floor. It'll be like the Royals in the AL Central.

I like this trade for all 3 sides. I think Boston did pretty well, considering the circumstances and the small time frame they had to work with. It deosn't hurt them all that badly this season and def. helps them for next season.

I also think the Dodgers are looking pretty good and should win that division now. This is good, because I don't want to face off against Webb/Haren in a short series.
