There had been reports they where looking for a young catcher to replace Varitek down the line.

Castilla/Hill/Pie/Wuertz

i think you guys are thinking of the manny ramirez who played like 3-5 years ago. this manny ramirez is a good hitter but not an elite hitter, and he's a brutal fielder. plus he's overpaid by a good amount given his overall level of production.

True, but with those 4 players I dont see one of them even being his level right now let alone him in the past.

The annual "Red Sox explore trading Manny" news story.

Does anyone remember a few years back when Steve Stone suggested an Aramis for Manny trade?

His Aramis for Izturis trade was funnier.

Manny actually played the Iraq card. Too funny.

Seriously if we acquired Manny I'd give it a month before we'd start hearing the same stuff from him. What a great player, and what a great headache, all wrapped up into one package.

Dumbest thing I've ever heard from someone who's supposedly an expert.

Stone has always had some serious love for Izturis. I remember him on the Score670 applauding and raving about Jim Hendry's acquisition of Izturis.

He was a gold glover ya know.

My man-love for Manny is well-documented on this bd. I just don't think we have the prospects or ML players it would take to get him.

Would you trade Kosuke for him straight-up?

would you trade Soriano for Manny?

I would because it would allow us out from Soriano's contract and Manny will be a FA at the end of the year. We'd have our bat for the stretch and then sign Dunn in the offseason. :D

Topping the worst OF defensively of Manny and Soriano....adding Dunn! Imagine that of, yikes!

I wonder what type of money Dunn is going to get.

Dunn is an interesting guy for the offseason as far as money goes. My guess is he's thought of as a DH through baseball circles at this point. Depending possibly on whether or not what Ricciardi said about him actually holds any weight with other GM's, it COULD very well have a serious impact on what he gets this offseason.

What's he worth though? JD Drew money possibly? Sounds about right to me anyway. I wonder if 5-70 is too long of an obligation for someone like him though IF GM's think the same way Ricciardi evidently does. Only reason I even bring it up is because you'd think he'd be highly sought after right now, with the trade deadline looming, but it really appears that he's not. In the end, I think 14-15 mill per year sounds right, but maybe no one would want to go more than 3-4 years at that figure?

No matter what though, I don't see the Cubs getting involved, with the only OF spot possibly in need being CF and doubtful that Fukudome would be asked to change spots.

Well, under my scenario Dunn would play LF, Fukudome in RF, and a yet to be determined player in CF.

I know vance but the thought of it made me want to buy season tickets just for the entertainment value in the OF alone!

Imagine how fun it would be to watch Dunn launch balls out of Wrigley that might land on the roof tops across the street.

I think the price would be a lot less than people think if they are that upset at Manny's behavior.

You can't keep feeding the beast and then get upset when he acts like one.

The Cubs have no use for him unless they move Fukudome to CF and Soriano to RF. This late in the season I don't see that happening.

Just reported on ESPN 1000 that Manny wont be going to the Phillies. They said that Burrell is there LF and that Manny hasn't played RF in years.

It would be nice. So you'd basically trade Dunn for Soriano?

Rotoworld saying the Sox are talking to the Dodgers about a Manny deal, but that LA wants to offload Andruw Jones' contract. I can't see that happening

yes, because I think you could get Dunn for less dollars and less years than we committed to Soriano. I think while they are different types of hitters, they bring basically the same value as a hitter.

Would the White Sox be a good fit for Manny? I just can't see an NL team going after him as hard as an AL team would.

Considering they have two of the best corner OFs in the league (at least for this year) in Carlos Quentin and Jermaine Dye, I'd have to say no.

Do they have a good DH too nilo? I wonder since Manny wants to leave if he'd accept being just a DH as well.
