I really really wish I didn't have to wait until the end of the week to see Harden pitch.

So he pitches Friday or Sat? Man that's so soon. Sit back and have a few beers til then. ;D :clapping:

Outstanding. For all of the knocks (and rightfully so at times) Hendry gets, we know he gets a deal done when the team is in contention and it almost always puts us in a better position to win without hurting us long-term. He and Beane really seem to work well together.

As has been said it's a good deal for both teams. I would have thought Oakland could have maybe gotten more in return, but they do have 3 pieces that are Major League ready. Gallagher is the only one that may really hurt, but that's what you have to give to get such a high reward possibly.

Agreed. He certainly has plenty of philosophical flaws (which he may have come around on, actually), but he has put together 3 blockbuster deals over the last 6 years when his team was in serious contention. Prior to his tenure as GM, I can't really remember the Cubs being anywhere near as aggressive.

I was fixing to post the official apologize to Hendry thread

More importantly, what about the apologize to sweet swingin billy williams thread?

We definitely should apologize to him. He got on the phone with Hendry and made the deal happen.

Kudos to Jim Hendry....Harden & Guadin for 2 bench players, #4 starter, & a average catching prospect is a helluva deal.

Yeah, I do remember a few peeps here saying Beane would want a high quality ML ready guy. None of the guys we gave up are top of the line guys. Good role players yes. But not what we thought.

Unless, god forbid, Beane knows he's injured and that's the only reason we got him. Bite your tongue, knock on wood.

I really thought that Vitters and/or Hill would have been moved for a pitcher of this caliber. Maybe it's a good thing Hill and Pie have struggled (possibly decreasing their trade value) early and now they can turn it on and help the Cubs in September.

Well, Hendry is really singing praises about Beane on the broadcast now, I wonder if this was a bit of a wink wink deal.

Did Hendry just say that the Cubs' doctors already examined Harden?

Hendry said earlier in his press conference that the doctors have thoroughly examined Harden.

Harden was in Chicago this past weekend.

I'm not sure if that's what he said or just that they had access to the A's doctors and Harden's medical records.

That's what I assumed, but he kinda made it seem like they actually examined him. Oh well, it's good news either way.

Did Hendry say that? Wow.

Wow...I thought for sure the Cubs were going to give up more than this to get Harden. I have my concerns about his health, but for as little as they gave up, he's certainly worth the risk.

Best day of my cub's life since the nomar trade! I might need to drink a celebratory beer!

PS does Jim Hendry look a lot healthier to anyone else?

He does actually. Good for him.

You would have though that someone would have seen him at the airport

He was "in town" to face the White Sox with the rest of the A's.

Life is good. :D

Gallagher is the guy I'll miss the most. Murton and Patterson had nowhere to play. Donaldson is the diamond in the rough in the deal and, quite frankly, could end up being the guy we'll miss the most when all is said and done.

However, Harden and Gaudin is a terrific gamble on Hendry's part. I really like it!

So why did we get Harden AND another respectable pitcher for 1 pitching prospect, a guy who will be a platoon outfielder at best, a guy whose proven he cant field to save his life, and a catcher we wouldnt need for years anyway?

And am I crazy for wishing Hoffpauir was in the deal? He could thrive in Oakland, at least as a DH.

One skill Hendry has over other GM's is I think he can drink everyone under the table. I think that explains a lot of his trade success.

Yes you're crazy for wishing we gave up more than we did.

And for thinking that Hoffpauir will thrive anywhere as a full time player.

Doesn't Cust have the DH spot locked down for them anyway?
