Has it been determined when Harden is going to pitch? I'm hoping Friday because I'm going to the game.

I've heard Friday, but I don't know if its confirmed.

Either Friday or Saturday. Harden was scheduled to pitch Friday for Oakland, but Piniella seemed to be leaning toward Saturday. Said he's going to wait until Harden arrives to make that decision. I have a feeling it'll be Saturday though. I only say that because my sister is getting married that day, and there's no way I'll be able to watch the game. :(

Cool story on how the trade went down from Buster Olney (it's a sidebar, not a full article)...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3478902

Anatomy Of The Deal

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry checked in from time to time throughout June with Oakland general manager Billy Beane about the availability of Rich Harden, and their conversations traveled down the same path: Yes, Harden was available, but only at the right price, and that price would include right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher. And Hendry indicated, repeatedly, that Gallagher wasn't available.

On Sunday evening -- the same night when word broke that the Brewers had worked out a deal for CC Sabathia -- Hendry indicated to Beane for the first time that he would make Gallagher available in a Harden deal, but it would create a problem: If Gallagher was traded, the Cubs wouldn't have the kind of depth they needed to deal with an injury.

"Let me call you back," Beane said.

Beane had an idea. He could fill Hendry's need for depth by adding veteran swingman Chad Gaudin in the trade. He phoned Hendry back on Monday night with the suggestion. "That could work," Hendry said, and the two general managers began piecing together other parts of the trade. Beane called Hendry with a detail of the trade very late on Monday night, California time, figuring the call would switch over to voice mail on Hendry's cell phone because it was so late.

But Hendry answered the phone, wide awake. "Jim, what are doing awake?" Beane asked.

"I'm just laying here on my couch," Hendry said.

Some 15 hours later, the trade was finished. Oakland got Gallagher, a pitching prospect with a more stable medical history than Harden, and the Cubs got a high-risk, high-reward talent in Harden.

Nice deal for the Cubs. Sucks you guys had to give up Gallagher tho, I always like him even as a Brewer fan.

I would still rather have Sabathia but got to hand it to Hendry. I really like Gaudin. Hopefully Harden can stay healthy and what will the Cards do now?

Checked out Brewerfan.net tonight and I have to admit it was all class. It is good to have a rivalry with civilized people.

Hopefully trade Rasmus for Burnett, who blows out his elbow

The way I see things, this trade is basically just Gallagher for Harden, seeing as how Epatt and Murton had nowhere to play anyways.

WOW.

I look at it more as Gallagher for Harden and Gaudin. Gaudin himself can be a significant contributor the rest of the year.

I think any other day this would be the source of some Hendry jokes.

Ohman this is so awesome I love Jim Hendry
What does Will Ohman have to do with this? He was traded away in the offseason. :D

The bolded is pretty much what I figured.

It would have been even better had Hendry said "I'm just laying here on my couch sipping some gin and juice."

Hendry knows his past history of DL trips and that Harden mentioned the dead arm after his last two starts. Plus I'm sure a physical is involved before the trade becomes official. I find it hard to believe that in this day and age, a GM could sneak an injured player through a trade or would be able to hold back information. Unless Beane is prescient, he has no knowledge of what the future holds for Harden in the way of injuries.

They both know there's a pretty good chance he hits the DL, hence the package sent Oakland's way and the inclusion of Gaudin. They both know about the dead arm and the velocity and have seen all the same medical reports. The Cubs are in a position where these players don't matter too much and they have a championship window, and Beane can stockpile some more cost-controlled talent. Harden could also pitch like an ace for a year and a half. The Cubs can take that chance pretty easily here. I honestly think this was a pretty good trade for both teams.

Color me ecstatic about this deal.

I'm trying to figure out who is absorbing this hit to the wallet and I'm thankful they are willing to make it happen.

The Cubs are in a position to go for it, and I'm thrilled they have the door open to do everything necessary to increase the chances of making to the postseason and beyond.

Saturday game being on CSN is fine for the Chicago types, but FOX blacks out EVERY GAME on Saturdays between Noon and 7 or 8pm EDT

Between 1:10 and 7:05. Cubs aren't in that window. You'll get the game.

According to the directv extra innings schedule, the game will be shown on channel 696.

Unfortunately, channel 696 isn't actually part of the Extra Innings package (even though it shows up as such on DirecTV's schedule). That's CSN, and that is always blacked out outside the Chicago area. The Extra Innings channels are in the 700s. No telecast Saturday outside the Chicago area.

Its only like 2.2M for this year.

Are Saturday games blocked out on MLBTV ?

The Saturday game has been changed to a 12:05 start, so I'm pretty sure it's not blacked out. Not 100% positive though.

Yeah, 2.2m this year and 7m next year? Someone has to sign off on this budget increase. I'm just glad that someone is doing it.
