As much as I want Hudson, I can't mind any source other than the one here that says he's available. The Braves would have to be committed to rebuilding if he's dealt as he's not an impending FA. I'll admit that he would move to the top of my list if he were on the market, but I have doubts that he is.

But if he is available, my guess is the Braves would have interest in Pie. I know they have Schaffer in AA, but I think Pie would be a player that would intrigue them. They'd probably want one of Marshall or Gallagher too. Hoffpauir would be a nice throw-in as a replacement if they don't keep Tex.

That package might be enough to get the ball rolling if he truly is available. My feeling is he isn't.

That means the focus is on either Harden or Burnett. I'd take Harden if that's the case.

Of course. But Oakland is still in it -- would Beane trade such a piece while still in WC contention?

Could the Cubs afford Hudson and Burnett? I think they have enough resources player wise to acquire them both.

I was wondering the same thing, only with Harden. Cedeno+ 1-2 others for Burnett. Then maybe a 3-way( involving TB/Murton?) for Harden. They might risk losing both after the season, if I saw Harden's contract right, but would it be worth it? It might be outrageously wishful thinking, mainly because I have no idea what it would take to get Harden, or Hudson for that matter, but it would be nice to end this drought.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love Hudson also, just hadn't considered anything for him in addition to Burnett.

Z

Dempster

Lilly

Burnett

Harden/Hudson ( these are not it order by any means, just how I typed them out)

That would be very, very sexy.

Beane operates on the maxim that you're either all in or all out. If he believes that the A's are all in, he won't trade, but if he believes they are all out, he will. He won't let emotion or fan reaction get in his way.

I have no idea where he sees that team. My guess is he'll be all out, but that he may not make that decision for another two weeks or so.

I really don't know what Beane would be after within our system, but one could look at players we might be underselling/valuing and go from there.

Pie and Hill come to mind. Marshall, maybe Veal and Colvin as well.

Oakland would be stupid to deal right now. They have a much better run differential than the Angels, which means the Angels have been much luckier than the A's to date winning games.

Here's an article from MLB.com.

"I'd be very surprised if [Cubs GM] Jim [Hendry] doesn't make a move," an official from another National League team said Monday. "Remember, [starter Ryan] Dempster has been a reliever the last few years, so they've got to wonder if he can keep this up all year. [Carlos] Zambrano's had some health issues in the past. Those questions had them looking for pitching before. Now you've got a hot Milwaukee team adding the best available starter. I can't see the Cubs standing pat. Not after this."

Getting a healthy Alfonso Soriano back in the lineup will improve Chicago's offense, but the Cubs would really like to add another starter to bolster the rotation. They have scouted, among others, Oakland's Rich Harden and Joe Blanton, San Diego's Randy Wolf and Greg Maddux, Seattle's Erik Bedard and Toronto's A.J. Burnett.

Hendry keeps his cards close to the vest, but the Brewers just upped the ante and it's Chicago's move.

"I'd say the Cubs have got to be more motivated [buyers because of the Sabathia deal]," the official said.

Reading an Athletics Nation post about the rumors makes me glad that the Cubs don't trade away good players very often, because boy do fans overvalue their own players. The prevailing wisdom was something along the lines of "Pie, Vitters, and Hill to start with".

ESPNews just said we're after Harden.

Did they say anything else in detail?

The probably just piggy backed the article that was in the Sun-Times.

Yeah, you were right here.

People have to be careful with trying to figure out Beane. He isn't as one-sided a GM as painted out to be. Oakland's recent interest in Willy Taveras, the anti-sabre poster boy next to Pierre, should prove that.

Oakland has a ton of holes and a desire to fill many cheaply. A guy like Colvin could very well grab Beane's attention.

That's because people misconstrue Beane's moneyball philosophy with being an OBP above all else philosophy. Beane looks for undervalued commodities, not just guys who get on base. OBP is no longer undervalued, or at least not as undervalued as it once was.

I could see Beane having a lot of interest in Ceda as well. And if Beane's recent move to valuing defense is correct, he might value Pie as well.

Pie + Ceda might be a starting point. I'm not in any way suggesting that would be enough, but it could form the centerpiece of a deal.

I would think so, too. However, I have no idea about how the Cubs organization feels about him. Do they consider him a deal-breaker, or are they closer to feeling how the rest of us feel about him?

This being said, does 22 year old Smokies ace Mitch Atkins have any value?

Would anyone do Pie/Hill/Ceda?

I would do it but we would probably have to add one more person.

Hoff, Murton, or Cedeno would be a legit throw in with that package.

I think one of those players would work probably Cedeno would work best.
